LOVE the cellophane idea! I'm at 7,000' in New Mexico where the $60+ ($50 + $10 shipping+tax) cover's only last a few years... even our Oct. through May sun is intense enough to break down anything. And they get tattered and torn in our strong winds, and can even blow off if not tied down really well. THANKS, u saved me time, hassle and money!

I’m on Louisiana, they don’t work here, the humidity doesn’t evaporate the water. But I bet they are great on the west and spend super low electricity compared to a normal ac.

Yea, as hot as it’s been getting lately though I’ve had a lot of retrofit, abandoning the swamp cooler and adding central ac.

I'm in Colorado. My "guy" had me remove the pumps and put in the garage over the winter. I do have a cover for the cooler

Hi. The house doesnt have a plate to cover the hole going into the house? My swamp here in NM had that. Also, I always kept the pump and belt inside the house over the winter. Swamp covers are typically found at Lowes and Home Depot's here in NM late summer and falll seasons.

If I'm in the desert (113 today) and don't use it for the summer, I don't need to drain it (no mosquito standing water bc it will evaporate on its own) and just have to prime it when I use it again, right?

Is it ok if there is a little lip so the water doesn’t 100% drain out? Will the small amount of standing water freeze and cause issues?

Why wasn't the water supply line drained? That would cause major problems if left full of water, wouldn't it?

That roof looks high, be careful up there. It's also terrible for a shingle roof to walk on it, they should move that thing so they aren't taking years off the life of their roof every spring and fall by having someone walk on it.

I’m sorry but cellophane does not keep cold air out of your home in sub zero temperatures, if there is no damper in your ductwork then some type of insulation and a good canvas cover is needed.

Never had an issue with this. And for the most part it’s just keeping heat in, because heat rises 👍🏼
