Well, he is probably not the most traditionally Vietnamese guy around lol but he is still Vietnamese and they honor their parents- obviously this guy’s situation is different regarding his father being a POS but most VN people I know (and a lot of asians in general) take care of their parents like that.

He seems like such a great person honestly, all the shit he went to jail for wasn't just something he chose to do for no reason like the drugs that was him trying to survive without anyone's help. I hope him, his sister, and mom are much happier and they can overcome all the stupid shit life has thrown at them ♡ loved this episode so much you're all great

Children are second class citizens in the US. How they are treated by society is shameful. I tried to emancipate myself but was stonewalled because my parent was perfect on paper. For anyone struggling I want to say that I'm glad I didn't kill myself in high school, and my twenties are the *start* of my happy life.♑️

I can only imagine... It's really similar in Canada, except it's easy to emancipate, hard to get financial support. I moved out at 16, blessed to say after 13 months I was actually able to get support, but they force you not to share apartments with anyone you've dated or you're considered married. I was able to find a place at 17, it's been half a year now. I'm sure high school you is so proud of where you are today and can rest knowing you made it this far.

I felt it when Viet mentioned that his dad would put him down everyday. Some times we have to be our own protectors, I’m sure your inner child is trusting you for slowly coming to terms with parts of your trauma. There’s still so much to overcome, much love from Houston! 🙏❤️

It hits hard when the person that is biologically programmed to love, protect, and nurture you is the one that destroys you. My tattoos tell a similar story. I could not protect my younger brother the way I should have been able to. We are finding our self worth. We are breaking the cycle.

Hearing him say that he’s scared to be a dad is so heartbreaking because just from hearing him speak I can tell he will be the one to break the generational trauma. From my own experience there is no better way to heal the inner child than to raise your kids the way you wish you would’ve been treated with love and patience. What a great listen! Sending him lots of hugs and great job on the podcast im definitely a new sub!!

I've never met someone with such a similar story to mine: I'm an half chinese half vietnamese girl and growing up I can't remember a time where my mother didn't beat me. I was always afraid to go home or not having off-school-days because until 17 I wasn't really allowed to go out or have a phone. I just needed to look at my parents in an "rude" manner they would beat me, if I cry they would beat me, if I talked back or be annoyed they would beat me. At 12 my mother married my stepfather who has a son and the son was never beaten in his life. And while this kept going on they would just watch. Mind you(!) I was a very good daughter: I had to put a an act every single day to be the happy daughter bc they would beat me if i showed signs of anger or frustration. But when I turned 17 I finally had the strength to decide that I can't do this anymore and that's when my stepfather beat me up and I fought back for the first time. I called the police and left

Holy shit what Viet said to his dad last time he spoke to him... that one hit right home! I come from a similar situation constant abuse until around 17-18 literally up to the breaking point where i snapped and got in a altercation which ended up with my own dad pulling a knife on me. Left home and joined the military and never looked back, 3-4 years ago my dad calls me asking for forgiveness because he was dying i remember saying the same thing to him like Viet.

It’s crazy how much this episode has made me reflect on myself. I considered myself in a good space having dealt with depression for half my life but I think that while I’m slowly learning to cope and get better I’m not where I need to or what to be. When viet said that his 17 year old self would be proud of him now that flipped a switch in me and made me realise I need to try harder and do better. I understand now in order to truly find peace with myself I have to seriously begin to unpick and understand my problems and traumas.

cps is the worst, i know a few people who i grew up with got taken away from parents for the smallest thing like them yelling when their kid acts up and minor things... this one neighbour always called at every chance to complain about people in our complex. yet some girls i know told me about them being sexually abused and never gotten separated from the abuser even after many cps visits from them calling trying to find a way out.

My mom and grandfather both grew up in foster care, and generational trauma is definitely a trend in our family. I was heavily abused by my mom growing up, both physically and emotionally. My mother is now homeless. My father and her divorced when I was in high school, and I still don’t have the best relationship with him. With the help of therapy, medication, and meditation, I have grown stronger and have learned to understand the pasts of those whom I am supposed to love, yet some days are harder than others. I don’t talk about it much because I am afraid to dump trauma on friends that don’t relate. Thank you for posting this interview - it made me feel like I am not alone in the world.

Being left around the same age and started moving drugs bud and "shitty" molly too and getting in trouble in county for 2-3 years on and off when I should've been in there for a lot longer. Longest county time I did was almost the same about 4-5 months for probation violation. Shits weird to relate to someone so much besides the sister issue and gun charges. Edit: and face tats lol

This was a bit heavy… I’m so glad Viet Trap is in a safe place now. He seems like good guy. Also… I was on anti-depressants for my OCD and depression. Since I had emotional blunting with Lexapro, my psychiatrist suggested for me to add (yes, add and not replace my meds) Wellbutrin. Let me tell you, I had major side effects on that pill. I literally hallucinated on that after my first week of taking it. I was seeing a vivid image of a hundred illuminated butterflies in my room. I could hear the fluttering and I smelled boiled eggs for hours. I had to calm myself down and call the hospital at 2AM.😐 That’s the last day I took any meds but to be fair, it does suppress your anger. That was beneficial for me.

Trauma kids know that you just KNOW when someone has been thru some crazy shit as a kid, specifically the genre of kid that dealt with parental neglect/abuse and drugs, and it gets to a point where the people without those stories freak you out. In the least fucked up way i very much relate to how he speaks on childhood and the emotions going on in those years and its so special to have people with mental health and trauma HEAL and GROW as much as possible to pave a way for the kids like us.

(I was having a hard day today... confidence a lil low on a mistake I made) anyway... back to my point! 1 :15... in hilarious! And what's wrong with fans! What I mean is. Similar to if meeting while out. Someone wld listen and like you for who you are ... so if a person started to follow and they wanted to chat. And had good convo... why not!... but you do have yo weed out the fan fan for clout vs someone who like you as fan but now likes you as a person

When I saw bro rocking the brand of sacrifice from Berserk on his neck it made me a bit sad, but hopeful because hope fights fear and no one needs to suffer/deal with the hardships of reality. Rooting for you bro, keep striving to be the best version of yourself.

Hey V. This is a sincere message but I really needed someone who can relate to me as much as you did. I really respect you for moving on with your life, it really inspired me because of the place am in, am living a life similar to you right now. Seeing you made me want to become better person than my mother, she was an addict and would always abandoned her children (for months the most is 11 months even in different countries) putting them in situation where there was drugs, abuse, homeless (for 3-4 years) and sexual abuse. Am the middle child to three, my sister to avoid my mother would leave for days making me take care of my little brother, V my brother is the light of my life, because without him, i would hang myself but I don't because in the end if I leave him, i know he follow my example to leaving(i know because he has the same thoughts as me to leaving but not leaving the other behind).

Hey, I can’t relate to your situation, but I understand suffering very well. I always come back to these words so I can see the light when reality becomes dark - Life is suffering, indisputable. So what do you about it? You voluntarily accept it and then strive to overcome the suffering that is a consequence of that. Do this for yourself, and do this for the people you care about. You might ask how well does this work? The answer is, the only way you can find out is by trying it. If you orientated yourself to do the greatest possible good you can conceive, how much good can you do? Might as well do it because there is nothing in it but good. The answer to the problems of humanity is in the integrity of the individual. Become the best possible version of yourself so the good can manifest in the world around you. Take it one step at a time if that is all you can tolerate, and embrace the struggle, because it only makes us stronger.

Remember that it's hard to leave at first, but staying would mean having trauma that can continue to deteriorate you and your siblings' well-being. After a while, you'll be glad you left. Only people who want change will act on it.

I know it's too late to do anything now, but damn just looking at it from the sister's perspective, he left her. As her brother, I know he was struggling too and couldn't take her with him, but she was left to fend for herself and had to take the brunt of it all after he left, and she continued to be sexually and physically abused since CPS didn't do anything. There's no good solution, but she probably felt like she was so completely alone and abandoned after he left. I hope she's doing well in life ❤

Wow, that is an amazing big three. Leo and cancer are both exalted in their home planet. Capricorn ascendant gives people a foot up in business, but can make it difficult to start a love relationship. Edit*: Astrology girls also do like high fantasy rpgs as well.
