How and When to Use AutoStick in a 2012 Dodge Avenger R/T

Coming out of the vault, filmed while I still had my 2012 Dodge Avenger R/T, I discuss the 3.6 Pentastar's Automatic Transmission AutoStick while driving and using it. I go over how to use it, its limitations, its behavior, and the situations I liked to use it, and situations I had to use it.

Auto stick makes this car so much better because if you get tired of comfortable automatic you can just rev high and listen to the engine while also having more power available also its more fun to shift yourself

You've achieved the Mopar nirvana in your 1320 purchase,but you still make the best 3.6 Avenger vids.Thanks! Best slapstick for these cars is a 55-60 roll,then 3 quick slaps to the left with pedal to the metal.Holy mackerel Altima 3.5's get smoked.

I love all the positive attention this car has gotten from everyone that knows the truth about them. I just wish I had a chance to make more vids with it before I sold it, and I'm missing it a bit more than I thought I would. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my 1320, and I've never had as much fun on the dragstrip. But on the street, I think the Avenger might have actually been a bit more fun. Yeah, it's no where near as fast as the Challenger, but it's not as loud, it didn't break the tires loose anytime you touched the pedal, and you weren't driving around with a big target on you. I could go all out, full wide open all the time in the Avenger and blend right back in when needed, and it was more than fast enough to take out most of the commoners. I drive my 1320 hard, but if I drove it all out the way I did the Avenger I'd probably be in jail lol Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it!

It lets you start in higher gears in autostick when the conditions are bad out in winter it helps a lot

I use auto stick when driving down the canyon instead of riding on my brakes. I like it. Also the avenger has pretty good pickup!

Yup same. I used it heavily when driving in the Smokey Mountains. Real smooth, and safe that way on steep declines. I have a 2014 SXT with the 3.6 pent.

My mom wanted a manual Jeep and ended up getting an automatic; it's got Autostick. We use it all the time! It's extremely fun because it has the I4 Turbo engine.

It absolutely does! Way more than most people would think. I mean, back in my younger cruising days, this car would have destroyed all the early 90's mustang 5.slows I was always racing.

I love the 3.6 pentastar that comes in these. 300hp stick. I have the same engine in my dodge journey. And this journey shits and gets for an suv. I love it

I use mostly when I need to change lanes because in auto, the transmission hesitates. I know it's only like half a second but it feels like an eternity.

These cars are fast. I can get 5.8 0-60 stock. With all bolt ons and the pug upgrade intake manifold and a 93 octane tune im making 335 whp. Thing is a rocket now compared to stock. 0-60 is around 5 seconds vecause of wheel spin but once im hooked up i can walk a bunch if V8 cars like the Charger RT. The power to weight ratio is awesome now. I am going to keep this car as my daily and buy a challenger for weekends. The bang for the buck you get with these cars is awesome. The 0-60s arent the best but 40-120 is crazy for a V6. Plus it gets good gas mileage.

They for sure are. I wish I could have kept mine to start messing around with it more. Crazy how back when I first started racing in the 90's the bar to beat to consider yourself fast was a Mustang GT. This Avenger stock easily wipes the floor with those early 90's mustangs lol. And yeah, I do miss the mileage.

@@Scavenger1320 yeah did you trade it in? I bought mine used with 30 k on it for 20 grand in 2015. Its been bulletproof. The only thing i changed so far was a thermostat and a heater core flush. I had to replace a strut and ball joint because my mom tookcit and smacked it off a concrete slab in the winter but that wasnt mechanical failure. The brakes sucked stock they were too small but i upgraded them with stop tech performance rotors and red stuff pads and what a difference. I have 160 k now runs like a top. I have seen these motors go 500-600 k miles and most of them only break becaise of the plastic timing cover gets into the engine and throws timing off. You can get a metal timing cover as an upgrade.

@@Scavenger1320 i also have a 200S AWD with all the bolt ons and a tune. 0-60 in that one is 4.5 seconds now. The awd makes a huge difference. There are people working on a supercharger conversion off a gen 2 sprintex right now. Adds 100 hp. Not the most because its a roots charger but its still a big power gain. A 435 hp 200S AWD would be sick. I wish they kept making the new 200 and brought back the avenger on the same platform. It has a ton of potential. The awd system is the same one out of the challenger gt awd. They can handle over 550 hp stock. The transmission is the only iffy part but i think itll be fine its a ZF 9 speed. Rated for 350 wheel torque. They should have come out with a SRT6 200. I dont know why they didnt.

😂 it would have really worked if I had a SuperCharged AVENGER lol. But no, it has to do with my "scavenger" hobbies like scrapping, reselling, auctions, etc. Although some people say I've been scavenging my Challenger with the weight reduction I've been doing.

@@That_fella_named_J I know any of the trims with the V6 will have autostick, not just the R/Ts. Not sure about the 4 cylinders but I think they would. Won't really do much for handling, although the R/Ts do have a little bit stiffer suspension. Pretty much every way I used the autostick I talked about in this vid. Putting it in manual autostick mode would hold the gears longer for sure, especially if you just left it and forced the car to shift itself.

we have the same transmision and is sooo cool, but i have the dodge avenger sxt 2013 the 4 cyl, people say that CVT transmissions are bad but the only thing these people reflect to me is that they have no knowledge of what a CVT is, they are pure technology. If I use it in manual it will go a little faster because it lets the revolutions go higher?

It does seem most of the people talking bad about the transmissions haven't actually had one. Mine held up even with the hard driving I put it through. And yeah, in my car at least when I put it in manual but let it shift itself still, it ran its best 1/4 mile times since it stayed in the power band longer by going a little higher in the rpm range before shifting.

I know it works the same for any model with the V6. I'm honestly not sure about the 4 cylinder models though, but if it has the autostick feature it should work the same.

So me personally I've used auto stick for the 2013 dodge avenger 3.6 and my car shit the bed had to replace the whole engine so idk if the problem was using the gears or if it was something else but I've heard this car is called the "zombie car" because of all it's problems

I can't imagine how using the autostick would cause an issue with the engine but it's always possible. The 'zombie' car reference actually refers to cars that should be 'dead', as in discontinued, but are still getting new sales. Last year for the Avenger was 2014 but Dodge kept reporting new Avengers being sold even up to 2018. I use the auto stick in the 1320 all the time. Shift it down in manual, nail it, then throw it back in auto. 👍🏼

I'll probably do a vid on that in the 1320 eventually too. The only time I'm in auto in it is at the dragstrip when I'm in Drag mode, otherwise it's autostick/paddles all the time to keep the MDS off.

@@Scavenger1320 you need to disable the mds or get it taken out. They fuck up the 5.7 and 6.4 in the long run. They say without mds the hemis will last forever. Easily 500 k miles.

Just look at your shifter. Is there a "+/-" below the "D"? If there is then you have autostick.

If you have the se avenger you dont have it. If you have heated seats and its an sxt then youll have the 6 speed which is miles better than the 4 speed

It's a bit small inside for a mid-size sedan. Back seat is basically a cave not much bigger than the back seat in my Challenger now. They say the transmission is the weak link in it, but mine never gave me any problems. Engine wise the Pentastar 3.6 is in just about every vehicle Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep has with a V6 and is probably one of the better engines they made, just too bad the transmission isn't geared right to make good use of the power. Then there's the location of the battery that I always hated, but you shouldn't have to worry about that too often. Otherwise this was a solid car for me for the almost 9 years I had it.

@@Scavenger1320 i got a '12 dodge avenger it has a 144,465 miles some parts have been replaced, the ones that have been replaced are painted with the mileage. Ive had the transmission flushed last yr in to my knowledge has never been done before, what are some things i need to pay attention for. Mine is a 3.2 Liter V6 engine

I use AutoStick because it allows me to get in a higher gear very quickly which keeps my rpm low which save me money on gas. Get and keep them rpm's as low as possible, as soon as possible, increases mpg. Thanks to president biden the price of gas is at a all time high and I am forced into savings as much gas as possible.
