⭐If you are new to unintentionally Frenchified, I am an American living in Paris for the last 10 years! Ekkkkk. I’m now working for a large beauty company, married to my favourite grouchy Frenchie and have a 10 month old baby girl! Oh how life has changed when I was 22, got dumped by my first French boyfriend and decided to move to France and show him how wrong he was by thriving in France alone. Fast forward ten years and I’m bursting with life experiences that only living abroad can teach you!
In today’s video, I’m talking about why I moved to France and how I made it happen on a budget. I talk about the different options for coming to France, give you tips to help think in your particular situation what could work for you and tell you a bit about how I got prepared. We even chat about French fashion (gotta pack that suitcase) and cheap ways to get plane tickets!

Salut! Hope you guys enjoyed the mix of my personal story getting to France and some tips for anyone thinking about making the big move. I didn't have a lot of money when I decided to move abroad, nor did i have a huge plan. But with a lot of determination and some planning, I made it happen and i know you guys can too! I am Canadian and 30 years ago following a break up l decided to go to France. I had 10,000 canadian dollars and no job waiting for me upon arrival. I had the benefit of knowing a few people which helped. I was already bilingual and took small babysitting jobs. I met someone, got married 4 months later and the marriage lasted 14 years. I am still here in Savoie on the ltalian border and never looked back.

I am an American educated hong konger, i met a french girl in china, i left my life behind got married, moved to France. The marriage lasted 5 years. I just want to be somewhere i am treated best. France is not the place. I don't look back, but I look forward. I will move back to Asia.

Wow! How did you get a residence permit without a job? I believe you can only stay 3 months then you need to apply for a longer stay which requires like a employer paper or something?

Wow, you're really lucky Leonardo, cause in the south of France the weather is much more pleasant (really, really more) than in Paris. In addition, Toulouse is a magnificent city (I live in Perpignan, which is 200 km south of Toulouse), very lively, with a gastronomy renowned throughout the world, a lot of animation, very cultural and with a lot of young people. The sea (Mediterranean), the mountains (Pyrenees), the Spanish border (where I live) are 200 km (124 miles) away. Which makes it the ideal city to discover France. People here in the south are much quieter than in Paris, much less stressed. It's therefore the ideal city to discover the "French way of life". I think if you don't know France at all but you're very curious and a little "adventurous", you'll be really out of place (in the good sense of the word) and will make fascinating discoveries. In any case, I wish you a very pleasant stay with us. You're welcome here. :)

@@lemasa77 Tout le plaisir est pour moi - All the pleasure is for me - it's a common polite phrase used in France when you helped someone and he or her thank you for it. You can also say, "je t'en prie" ou" je vous en prie" following the person at who you adress. ...de rien" (anyway) is the most usited but it's more familiar language.

I would say the hardest thing for me when moving to France was how exhausted my brain felt trying to learn French and all I heard was French(obviously) and my mind is trying to grasp it and understand it. Living in Montpellier I never really heard ppl speaking English. It’s hard to not feel frustrated when trying to learn a language so you can fit into to the world you choose to live in. I will say that 95% of the ppl I had to interact with were very kind and understood that French does not come easy as a second language. Especially when your an adult trying to learn. Love your videos 👍🏼

I absolutely love it!!! The city is small. Well for me it is as I am from Toronto Canada. I found that as long as you make the effort to speak French majority of the ppl are patient with you and if they know any English they will switch to it. The amount of Apologies I would hear for their poor English. Which always shocks me seeing that France is a French speaking country and they are helping me out by speaking English. No apologies needed. In the city centre it’s very lively as there are so many university students so it’s a great vibe. I found it to be quite a relaxed city. The flow is great. There are a few expat pubs and great meetups as well. I always felt really safe bday and night. The tram system is great as well. You can really get everywhere in the city and outskirts with it. The temperature year round is perfect. The winters I found were not cold. I grew up with snow and ice for 5 months of the year. So 8 degree winter is great. Good luck with your move and hopefully you enjoy this beautiful city

I lived in France for 25 years. My 3 kids were born there. I’m back in the US now, with my kids and French husband! Roles are reversed! I wish I had seen this video 25 years ago! You have great humor and insight!

Watch out for special peak pricing during the height of the tourist season. That is why plane tickets are sky high in June and much cheaper in the second week of September.

Being a jeune fille au pair, based off several experiences I have heard (and my own) is risky business likened to indentured servitude. I would not recommend it unless you have a financially solid plan B, it's so hard to make enough money to move out so you kinda are dependent on them and whatever home life stability (or not) they've created. Loving all the tea you spill !

I really want to visit Paris thanks to yep u guessed it emily in paris. I actually had a trip to Paris booked but corona cancelled that, we were going back in April but didn't get there but I will visit for sure. When I get more organised and start saving for a house I'm really interested in restarting my life in another country, I grew up with a great family but I just don't feel like I fit in here and if given the option I would move to out of the UK and I really want to visit Paris

Can you do a video on your time in Scotland and why you loved it? In 11 years when my youngest step child is 18 and we are free to move abroad, we want to move to the UK. I’m a dual citizen of the UK and US (grew up in the US my whole life and never left the country until last year when I was 28). We were initially thinking England, but because my husband and I have a blended family with 6 kids and want to get a huge house where our kids and grandkids can all come visit us, and we also want land, we’ll most likely need to buy in Scotland instead of England. We went to England and 8 other countries last year, and plan to go to Scotland and England next year when we no longer need to quarantine for 2 weeks before traveling.

Very courageous and charming was the first words which come to me when I saw your video :) (but don't tell to my wife or I am dead and I would deny that ! lol) Then came the passage where you said the first french guy "abandonned" you (or I missed a thing)... Didn't this "experience" (somewhat incredibly harsh if I may concede) with a Frenchy stopped you to keep going/moving to France even ? wow ... what a strength of will ! Between French + Spanish, there are general Latin origin forms + structures especially verb tense+ ----- verb modes!! But, French vocabulary has less Latin origin--- at 1st it was Celtic Gaulish, then + Latin + Frankish dialect of German, so it lacks similarities between Spanish + Portuguese both = Iberian + other Celtic+ Latin + Arabic, at least. Pronunciation--- French +Portuguese both use nasal vowels. Thrte are a grow You Tube videos which explain.French less typical history, especially 1 by NativLang called Why Is French So...(? The Apprentisceship (Apprentissage) is the best thing you can apply for studying in France, period. University will be paid by you employer, you get paid, up to 1 500 € in Paris, less in everywhere else" so you can afford accomodation and since you are a student you get access to Student discount for everything : - you get APL - money per month to pay for accomodation, - you get Prime d'Activité - money per month for young pple working, - CROUS - cheap food and dorms for student, - Museums are all free, - Cinema is cheaper, - and you can even take a student loan at 0,5% all cost included if the uni is partnering with a bank - very usual

Only English language courses taught universities in Turkey are Bosphorus Univ., METU Ankara, Bilkent American Univ., Hacettepe Univ., Koc Univ., Sabanci Univ., Yeditepe Univ., Bahcesehir Univ., Ozyegin Istanbul University where after 1 or 2 years of prep english all courses are taught in english language. Galatasaray Univ. is only in French language. We are all from highest society, diligent, dexterious which those above alumnis lenient only to western culture.

How large a role has dating played into your situation? Do you think it is important to have a romantic relationship to stay? I'm really nervous about dating in france o.o

Good question! I met my husband 5 years after I was in France and I was already super attached to living here. I think dating someone local always creates a stronger foundation because you have a good support system when thinks get rough and you tend to integrate faster. BUT, I have lots of friends who aren't married or dating anyone seriously and have been in France for 10 plus years too. I think everyone's situation is different. Don't put pressure on yourself to date someone local, but it's definitely fun if it happens ;)

Hello I love your channel! I’m French and lived in LA and California for 20 years...I’m still a resident and I can’t still so many years ago make up my mind about staying in France please help I feel desperate :(

Listening to stories of how people moved to another country is like hearing people tell how they fell in love. Always interesting. Never repeatable. And if you listen carefully you can catch some tips that will be helpful. Thanks for the spilled beans Kate. Poitiers is a pretty cool place. But I suspect you'll get into some difficultés there. I often think France and Texas are opposites. I find Texans to be a fairly cool bunch. But Texas itself? I can't stand the heat and the land. And it is often said that France is a great country, except for the presence of the French. And as you know the French can be charming and infuriating all at once. I can't wait to hear more. And it sounds like that jerque Pierre left a scar and an addiction for France itself. Strange how that goes. (Did you have much of French thing before meeting the French thing?)

Some of private and public universities have a quota for foreign students, but I think the rights has been multiply by 2 or 3 for some countries. The best is to seek informations on the website of universities.

I must have been really influenced by Americans when it comes to yoga pants. (sidenote, I don't do yoga, I don't do sports or workouts either.) I replaced tights with leggings and yoga pants, and sometimes I just wear them alone. Who cares. It's practical and comfortable, and if you decide it's stylish enough, it is. (sidenote 2, I don't have the figure to make yoga pants look good.) American people who want to come to France, pack your yoga pants if that's what you like to wear. Pack some jeans too, of course.

Maybe you could do some master program or even studies ...check if there are scholarships ... studing language is always a possibility

Its probably the best time to go - don't get me wrong, but at that age you will soon need to visit doctors more often and enjoy life at a slower pace, and as such you will love living in France: Peace of mind.

I moved with 19 to Berlin . If it wasn't for University of Arts and my career would be truly hard. Shoking at first, now I even like the rude and direct German way of communication.

Ok so she settled in Scotland to live with her french lover and got dumped a few months later (which is really sad actually) then she decided to settle in France for... humm... a reason. No, it still doesn't make any sense. It would have been just as easy to stay in Scotland (an honorable option, far better than going back to the U.S. and admit the failure)

Let me tell you best of the best Private High Schools in Turkey. Robert College, Koc High School, Uskudar American High School, St Benoit, St.Joseph French High School, St Purcierre High School, German Gymnasium, Austrian Gymnasium, Italian Catholic High School, Istanbul Erkek High School, Galatasaray High School, Ted Istanbul High School with 27 campuses 1000s of english speaking alumni all around the world from 1940 onwards especially in New York , Bahcesehir High School , Tarsus American High School in Adana, who can travel the world alone and can speak their foreign languages as fluent as natives. Tevfik Fikret High School, Charles de Gaulle High Schools are only in french languages in Turkey. We , alumni of those high schools are all from highest societal structures and lenient to Schengen society.

My Ted friend Cemil Ozkan, after being alumni of METU Mechanical Engineering has become Romanian EU citizen and he has got 1 daughter, never return back to Turkey after 24 years of bucuresti engineering tenure. He is divorced from romanian wife. Hakan Sekulu , my ted friend, Bilkent American Uni. Alumni bsc management has become Luxemburg citizen by having trade business in emeralds and gold necklaces in EU. My Bilkent American Uni.friend Baran Ulker had got his masters in intl relations diploma from Paris Schiller Univ.by paying 200.000 usd for 2 years education and room, board, books. He is working at Turkish Embassies around the world. Baran's elder brother Metu mechanical engineer alumni had become USA, South Carolina citizen 20 years ago. They used to be all Ankara citizens. Exodus from Ankara sustain towards indefinite years time.

Each individual has its own destiny so harsch to Give suggestions ... In south Europe if you are a Woman there are plenty of salary and General inequalities between men and women ... The only Solution for a Woman in south Europe is to Marry a men possibly with a Good salary , Old Style but believe me it is the truth Even in 2021 orherwise you cannot Afford with your own salary Holidays supplies and a Roof On your Head ...sorry the Lady is nice but These are Poliannas Tales ....I live in South Europe since Ages and Travelled a lot Things are difficult
