Here's how I ran CAT6 ethernet cable in the walls in my house from the basement to attic and other rooms without damaging drywall. I used a wire fishing stick and a HVAC return duct as my main path. I used this ethernet to connect my Asus AiMesh routers with wired backhaul for a more reliable mesh network and fast speeds. I got 1000ft of CAT6 cable and cut it to size, crimped on RJ-45 connectors on the ends and installed low voltage wall plates or surface mount boxes. I used the T-568B wiring standard but T-568A also works, just stay consistent on both ends of the same cable.

Thank you once again I will be wiring my next new home for internet, what you showed there brought back memories of helping my dad wire antennas through a home from the roof/ attic down to where the customer wanted the antenna for T.V. thanx Tater~tot

you're welcome! My biggest gripe is I hate insulation since I react to it and get hives/major itch. Other than that it was kinda fun to get the wires routed.

Great info as usual Mr Nate! I was wondering how long it would take you to speak about MOCA but ya fooled me and did it early in the video lolo. I can understand it wasn't good for you, but for me, MOCA was a life saver with T- Mobile home internet. Also enjoyed you explaining the tools you used. Like they say, if you have the right tools it's half the battle of doing a job. Even though I use MOCA throughout my home, I'll tuck away this video to refer to if an when I need to install an extra ethernet wire/connection. Again MANY thanks for your time in making your helpful videos.

I actually found out why moca wasnt working at all in my house... I found a HUGE nest of coax cable ends in the basement ceiling. It took me about a half second to decide I wasnt going tackle tracing those coax cables and instead just run straight ethernet.

@@NaterTater That's about a half a second slower if that were my find lololo. Smart move and probably cheaper too! Those MOCA adapters aren't cheap and you need one on each end of all those coaxil cables

I use a TVR 10/100 tool by Byte Brothers for checking Ethernet cables. I always make sure the lines are good before i plug into the hubs. If wired wrong you can cause a data storm with lines already communicating. I also use the through hole connectors for Cat 6 I can use the regular ones but the through hole are faster. My crimper is old school i have to trim off the excesse with a pair of cutters. 73

Great stuff, as usual! I wired my house some time ago, which is allowing me to use TMHI with my external router, which is some distance from where the Arc gets its best reception. That room however, is a location I would rather not have a gateway in. Can I use an external antenna and put the Arcadyan somewhere else? And what would be the maximum run for an external antenna?

Thanks Roger. Antenna cable run is all about signal loss, for example waveform's std is 30ft and that is reasonable. You can go longer with more loss or go to a higher spec cable and keep the loss the same vut increase cost. 50ft is still reasonable, with a high quality cable 100ft starts becoming not worthwhile (too much loss). I'd encourage you to stay under 30ft for the gateway to antenna and keep using ethernet to go further than that. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qteperuemN-lg5c.html

Nice video! You should try the punch down keystone jacks. I prefer them as it’s much quicker to punch down then crimp the cable.

Yes good point. The surface mount boxes I used were punch down. I liked the idea of having rj-45 end but in hindsight probably not really needed.

Yeah they are ok but you still need a short Ethernet cable. A 500 foot spool could.make many but you still have to crimp the ends. Already made ones aren't the best. I have an eighteen inch one but it quit working. And last at work I'm replacing them because the plastic is crumbling. I have quite a few to disconnect before removing the plate from the wall. If the leads were long enough I would skip the jack and put ends on. 73 P.S. I did in one cubicle and just put the hub down where the jack was. 73

Ethernet over coax. I’ll have to look into that as we have an un-used coax network in this house already in place…
@NaterTater

Yes, it can be a good option for 1 or two runs. Gets expensive though for many.

I think you should make a video about T-Mobile home internet on the Nokia edition, I found out that the ones made in 2022 are more consistent with keeping the same cell tower, then I found out that a cat 8 Ethernet cable gets rid of alot of the high ping and packet loss, I was dealing with package loss all day before I added 2 80mil USB fans, a USB c to USB a adapter and the cat 8 Ethernet cable straight to my console or a Open WRT router, I have been running at about 35-80 ping all day every day even on days where I should be slowed down such as Saturday and Sunday at 7pm I was 50 ping on call of duty and Fortnite, just check the IP address and go to the status tab, try and get your data usage to be above 1gb up and down, that's actually the bandwidth you're able to use, so the higher usage you see the better the connection will be

cat 8 is serious over kill for TMHI and it won't "improve" the latency the unit gets from the cellular tower it will only lessen any additional latency you may have on your lan side of the network which a good cat 6a or even a cat 5e could do as well, but if it works for you then that's all that matters ....
@bmxbandito666
@bmxbandito666 2 жыл бұрын
@@profitgee1 I mean, it certainly is an upgrade from the shitty pre wrapped cat 5e cable that came with the unit. From my experience there was something wrong with the cable that came in the box. I tried every cable up to a cat 8 and they all have me 800+ ping all day, but the day I received my cat 8 Ethernet cable and plugged it in, I suddenly went from 800ping and 50% package loss to 45ping and 0 package loss all day. Movie my unit did nothing for my performance. Calling T-Mobile did nothing for my performance. I never said that putting a cat 8 would get you 40GB speeds lol. I would never expect it. But I did get more consistent speeds from my router to my PS and back, a good game to check that on would be Fortnite, because you can see the package loss upload and download

Did you use plenum cable? If not you have a serious problem. Plenum must be used when in air conditioning and other movable air areas
@NaterTater
@NaterTater 2 жыл бұрын
Chris, good point thanks for highlighting it. Most codes require the plenum rated (CMP) ethernet for HVAC and even drop ceiling and raised floors. And even going thru vertical walls (not ducts) requires "riser" rated. The ethernet cable I linked in the video description is CMP rated.
