They have said that Boarding Patrol rules will still work with 10th, so that's another option for smaller 500 point games...

I've never played 40k but the simplified new rule set + combat patrol is really appealing to me. This may get me into the game.

Thank god youre not restricted to rules for your paint scheme. Using SM as an example, the entire point of codex compliant chapters is that they all use the tactics from the codex astartes so theres no reason why the ultarmarines would fight any different to imperial fists

I really like what I see from 10th edition so far. I just hope that they will keep the rules free for the whole edition and that it eventually spills over to AoS. Less money to spend on rules = more money to spend on plastic-crack :P

Hopefully they'll have Battleline options for subfactions like in Sigmar. For example a Dark Angels army could have Terminators as Battleline so they can take up to 6 units while other subfactions can only take up to 3 units

i think its pretty clear they took the best rules (or the ones that could best match up with) from age of sigmar, since it definitely has the better ruleset out of the two games. its interesting that you dont have to take any battleline at all, and instead of a minimum, they put a maximum.

so to make sure I heard this right battleline is not req in a army thou if I do choice to add some, I can do up to 6 where normally max of 3 set of that unit data sheet.? or is this like 9th where I much have at least one set of battleline units?

I am new to 40K and this is the simplest explanation I have seen yet after hours of research. Looking to make a World Eaters Army. Around 2000 points.

I've been trying to get into the game for a little while, but the whole army building rules are so daunting. I like this simplification, maybe some detachments have more synergy with a specific subfaction

Really helpful for new players to get into it, or for people who want to go for thematic armies without having to "pay Troops Taxes". I see it less as "simplified" and more "cutting the fat".

Do we still need to form our army according to detachments in 9th edition, like the ones which restricts what kind of unit to include in the detachment.

This edition might get me back into 40k... I'd need to be super selective though, I don't want to end up with every faction from another system 😅

I’m new to the hobby, but isn’t the points system based on overall I.e. both yours and opponents army, so 1000pts is 500 each, or have I misunderstood some old edition ruling that compared points to power levels?

It looks like Infantry guard is back, 6 Infantry, 6 cadian, 6 catachan, 6 krieg and 3 each of kasrkin and scions...lol

The new rules sounds good so far. I was a bit over motivated when I came back to the hobby 1 year ago. I immediately bought the rules for WH40K 9th edition and the Blood Angels codex. Now I didn't played a single game in 40K 9th edition, because I couldn't find someone to play (thanks to COVID too). I am glad that the new rules will be free for download! But finally I think I found a group and some sort of local game store recently. So maybe I will be able to finally play the game! :)

This is smart play by GW. The rules and multiple books to just fight a game was what kept many out of 40k. Now with an easy approach they can get more new people in.

Can somone help me out. So i have a pure scion list of: x3 Tempestus command squad x6 Tempestus scion infantry platoon x9 Tarox Prime Questions: 1) I can only bring 3 Tempestus scion infantry units? 2) I can only bring 6 Taurox primes?

Ok I'm completely new to Warhammer and I'm trying to understand. But what does like 3 units of the same data sheet mean? Like how many figures in total can that be and so on. Because it seems like especially for new people. There's no one explaining all this.

sad to see 500 and 750 games go as those were the ones i wanted to play, as they are short and interesting (also cheaper) my fav batrep channel always does 500 point batreps and they are by far my favs, will be a werid change to see them go to 1k games combat patrols are cool for peeps who just have combat patrols, or just to play the combat patrol box, but i can't see it become 500p games as well you have to stick with that 1 premade list the rest of how to make an army looks really straight forward and nice tough ^^ also so if i understand it right i can have max 6 units of gaunts (if they have battleline keyword) but only 3 units of genestealers (without that keyword) thnxfor another great vid explaining things ^^

I started playing 40K back in the Rogue Trader / 2nd edition days and have loved the hobby. BUT 9th got too bloated and I stopped playing. I’m VERY excited about 10th! I’m particularly excited about being able to select detachment rules for my marines regardless of the color paint job! That’s HUGE!

No improvment for my GK terminator army . I Hope GW doesn't nerf ud like they did in the 8th index.

I love the AoS framework they are using but they have promised many times and failed at reducing the bloat in 40k

So happy for this as a noob/thicko. I always wanted proper structure for Combat Patrols so i don't really hav to fuck about with my army and fun matches in my local store.

So I've been playing since the 3rd edition of 40k....most of my friends have been playing for nearly as long. Rarely did we need to flip through the books. The Rules have never been too difficult....Maybe once every 3 or 4th game we'd forget a rule. Honestly I don't recall any serious players needing to flip through the books habitually. So this entire narrative of "Flipping through the book". I think is just a bullet point 40k employees put out there and the community gobbled it right up. So I'm skeptical at jump street. I remember hero hammer and this sounds like a water down version of it. Plus hello Games Workshop is openly calling it's players stupid. It may be in a polite way but that's what it means. I play Chaos World Eaters and have since 5th or 6th & play Raven Guard. Also been playing them for ages. I like the idea of flexibility but I think it's going to be more like a...What's the point in playing anything but Ultra Marines scenario. Then as time goes on. they'll realize that it's too bland and that 90% of the appeal to 40k...is it's complexity. If they did it right..Then we should be able to mix Chapters... like it is in lore. Imperial fists added by White Scars or Ultra Marines & Grey Knights ect....or the very obvious one Dark Angel's saving Blood Angels or vice versa. This way the niche abilities of each chapter could be exploited. When we all read the list of crap going to legend too...We all said F that. So we're still going to use the stuff. One friend literally just bought two leviathan dreads too ha ha ha ha Typical GW. We are even thinking about starting a KZfaq channel called "Photo Copy" Hammer... Make photocopies of the minins, use popsicle sticks & glue them to bases. Absolutely 0 GW minis on the table and then play.

Great overview. Afraid of them adopting any rules from AoS where army building is a byzantine mess. The use of the word "enhancment" has me a little doubtful of this system working as well as it seems. AoS has never clearly defined what an enhancement is and different units in that game have different types of enhancments, often never being clearly defined unless you go deep in the weeds between several books. I've played GW games for over 30 years, played AoS for months and was never able to figure out how to build an army properly. They need to have a master list of enhancments like older editions used to with Wargear or it's going to be a mess like it is in AoS. People need to be really careful with detachments. They sound like a scummy marketing tool to make you buy models you don't want or need like they were in 7th.

They copy Age of Sigmar now. They know what is the better (better means more fluent) game

I don't care if people can play their fists like Ultras. I just want to play my Black Templars like Black Templars. Taking away all of my fluff for simplicity is wrong. Random space marines vs random xenos, yeah

This is such bullshit they're just giving you permission to do things that people have always done anyway that have never violated any rule but they're laying restrictions and forcing people to buy box sets of Miniatures instead of creating their own unique list they're turning it into a shity board game. This is why people need to start going third-party, playing games like one page rules, and buying 3D printers because for the price of a single combat control I can buy an inexpensive resin 3D printer and print an unlimited number of models
