Rice has been great but unfortunately those stats Bhavss do not speak to the quality of those progressive passes or passes into the box. Partey is an incisive passer breaking the lines consistently. Rice whether by nature or instruction safely passes lateral or switching plays at times. It contributes to our transitional lethargy. Arteta is culpable for this tactically but Partey would immediately speed up and improve our transition play allowing Saka n Martinelli to receive the ball quicker in more dangerous situations. Our strongest team has both players starting.

1:27 Simple answer to lack of goals from open play is that we do not know where the goal is. Count how many shots ON TARGET there are in a game and that's the telling stat. When we get to the final third, we haven't a scooby what to do with the ball, apart from pass it out of existence and then lose it. Too much sideways and backwards; been that way for a few seasons. But when we resort to one-touch two-touch, we play the opposition off the park, until we get to the final third. It's fixable, so please fix it Mikel.

I beg to differ about the West Ham game. The stats looked brilliant, but they lie like a fish out of water. We never really troubled their keeper, Every shot was right at him or wide. Moyes will take that every game. The shots were a result of our front 5 mostly getting the ball back to goal forcing them to take awkward shots. It's a story of the whole season, so far. The new system forces our players into these awkward shots as they try to protect the ball with 2 or 3 defenders on them in the tight spaces they are in. The players are doing the best they can but Arteta has them handcuffed with this failure of a new system that should have been ditched 10 games or more ago.
