Never let other people decide what's right for you. If you want to be a successful artist work your ass off and become one. The world needs more beauty.

I essentially agree with the person above me, just keep a few things in mind. (Long rant ahead) 1: Conservatively minded people (Non-Creative, low risk low reward type of people, the majority of the population basically), are never going to understand you. I have big dreams myself, of hopefully monetizing my creativity someday. While my mother supports me, she is worried beyond belief about whether or not I will succeed, and I've pretty much accepted that the rest of my family will always wonder, "What the hell is wrong with that kid?" Most of my elders want me to just get a steady job, and work there for 40 years (even though that isn't really advisable, or even possible for the most part anymore), they don't really care whether or not it sucks the soul from me, or has me working 120 hours a week, as long as it's "safe". I don't think relying on a company, and putting trust in them is really as safe many believe it is, but it seems safer to a Conservative, so it's what they will go with. If you dare have dreams bigger than this, then you are just "naive", "entitled", unrealistic", "stupid", "insane", etc, according to them. (As for jobs, I'd recommend a KZfaq channel called Joshua Fluke. I wish I started listening 5o him before I entered the working world, I'd have been much more prepared.) 2: My grandfather once told me "A man has nothing, if he has no dreams." Despite how much said Conservatives want you to live a "safe" life, don't ever give up. Some of them are just jealous, because the world has beaten all of the hopes and dreams they had out of them, others just want to help you because they think you aren't being realistic, but don't ever listen to them. What they don't understand, is that you are just a fundamentally different (not superior necessarily, just different) kind of person than they are. They don't understand that if you don't have big dreams, and don't actively pursue them, then you will just wither away. So for your own sake, don't ever give up on those dreams. 3: As contradictory as this might sound to what I said before, keep your dreams "realistic" (hear me out). What I mean is if you have dreams of being rich, and driving around in a Lamborghini, to a Conservative that sounds insanely unrealistic. That's mostly because making money is hard, and it goes very quickly, if you haven't started working yet, the value of a dollar will hit you like a Bulldozer when you do. Of course Lamborghini's are also extremely expensive to purchase, maintain, insure, and it's not something you need, hence you will usually get told "Get your head out of the clouds kid", if someone knows you dream of this. Don't get me wrong though, I want a Lambo, I definitely hope to have one someday. I don't actually think it's "unrealistic", to have this dream, it's just not guaranteed to you, even if you spend your whole life pursuing it. It isn't my main dream, but I enjoy the idea of pursuing something "impossible", in most people's eyes. What I mean by keep your dreams realistic, is understand that the bigger they are, the harder they will be to achieve. Don't lose sight of what's important in life while pursuing them, and make sure you're responsibilities are attended to. If you're dreams are even bigger than just getting rich, (ie you want to change the world in some way), then just understand that change may not come in you're lifetime. From the point that the Civil War ended, Black Americans still had over 100 years left, before they would be given rights as full citizens. Many of them had to die, or risk their lives, in order to bring that necessary change . I really wish someone would have told me all of this before I got out of high school ( I didn't go to college), It would have made my life a lot less stressful, and a lot less "Doomery" for a lack of better words. Just pursue what you find meaningful, even if you never achieve it. The dream by itself, along with the journey, can make life a lot more bearable. Most people wake up with nothing but bills, taxes, and a job they hate yet spend most of their time at, on their minds. You might not be able to escape the bills, and taxes, but you can at least find a job that keeps you're soul intact, or start you're own (relatively safe) business if you want. Let your dreams occupy a part of your brain, that would otherwise be filled with boring, typical adult nonsense. This was therapeutic for me to write and I hope it helps you. Remember, the world is yours Chico, and everything in it.

Yeah, just keep in mind, if you are under 20, you are likely to be very naive. It doesn't mean what you're saying is wrong tho.

@@92sarahmarie Being aware IS creativity. You will eventually align with people who resonate on the same frequency, as you cannot deny your true identity. To translate creativity into a professional artistic career, you either need to be very good, productive, rich and/or lucky, or simply compromise yourself. You can also stay in a regular job, and protect your art from all sorts of vultures. Don’t let people’s thoughts and comments determine your decisions and actions. Not too much anyway.

I’m so jealous of the architectural beauty you have in Europe. In America we traded beauty and craftsmanship for practicality and savings. It makes me sick looking at long roads with what basically amounts to shrines to profit and greed on either side with seas of pavement everywhere.

My family is full of medical/healthcare people, creative artists, and educators. Perhaps the scientific people are the flip side of the creative people. The educators, of course, package the knowledge and pass it on.

Yeah. Also over here. This apartment costs at least twice as much, maybe even 5 times as much, as it did when mom bought it 13 years ago so I would be on my own closer to college. The neighbourhood had a lot of abandoned industrial buildings, empty spaces where stores used to be and 2 places where artists gathered. There is no more empty buildings nor empty stores, but a lot of luxurious apartments have been built in the last 5-7 years. The last unused building has been demolished months ago. Now they are building another fancy apartment building there. That makes me wonder if I should, when the time comes, get myself a home in the similar neighbourhood to the one this was back then. All I know is that I can actually get myself something much bigger in such a neighborhood because the price of this place has risen so much. Or maybe I should just wait for this place to become even more expensive. I was thinking about it before, but because I still don't have a family, I won't move out yet. Maybe I should have found a way to introduce myself to the artists as a wannabe published author I am? Can I tell them about the two bad books I have written and my hopes of this one to be worth reading? How do you even approach them? I mean, I am an introvert that doesn't know how to approach people. There must be a way to make a contact with them before they are gone. Is there?

Just to clarify that part. He was in the middle of explaining how the number one personality trait that differentiates liberals from conservatives is conscientiousness. He said if you are a conscientious person who wants things to be orderly, structured, and predictable then becoming a musician at 25 will seem insane to you. He was not saying that it is an objectively crazy thing to do. He was really explaining why conservative types are usually not artist.

Creativity thrives in constraint. I’ve experienced many times that when I was given the freedom to do what I wanted that I paradoxically couldn’t think of anything to do. There was no challenge to rise to and therefore the act felt empty and uninspired. But as soon as I was given certain parameters to work in I could strive to break the mold. I hate opposition but I confess I need it to grow.

I'm a Conservative and I'm an Artist. I LOVE RULES in Art but also can't wait to break them once mastered... But you have to admit, we are rebelious and visionary which is not comon within our camp. And to be truthful we're kind of crazy to choose this path in life. Not everything is black and white.

I highly disagree. Most of the best artists the world has ever seen were not exactly conservative😅
