If this is what they managed to do to the 60th anniversary sonic I'm a tad concerned on what happened to the other sonic screwdrivers that have a fake model

Honestly I much prefer the deep blue of the fake to the near white of the original, if not for the fact I'm not too familiar with small electronics I'd get a fake and switch the blue LEDs around

This video helped me realise I got a fake one, but I'm not too upset about it. The extender isn't too stiff for on mine, and though the chrome is chipping a bit, I don't mind it. It makes the sonic feel like it has some wear and tear to it, like it's been used by the Doctor for a while and is getting older and more ancient. The only thing that annoys me about it is that the SFX and lights are delayed by a second when I push the button to activate them. Other than that, I'm actually pretty happy for it. This is the one case where I'm actually happy for a really good and convincing bootleg.

Another great video comparison. Really detailed and informative. If I hadn’t got the CO version and I didn’t want to pay an inflated price, this would be a good compromise if I had no other choice. Thanks for the video! James

I'll be damned, I'm usually pretty good at spotting knockoffs and bootlegs, but this one had me genuinely fooled. Had no idea mine was a bootleg until i saw this video comparing the two! Granted, mine actually seems to have proper colors, but the fine detailing seems to be the giveaway as well as the box. Was wondering why mine didn't come packaged with the tape on the emitter button like I've seen. I can't decide if I'm impressed or a little bit disappointed since this was a birthday present, but either way i got mine for free haha. Thanks for the video!

I must add that my bootleg chrome Sonic appears to give more of a white light akin to the "yellow setting" on your bootleg, while mine actually has yellow for the yellow setting. Chances are I have an earlier bootleg model though

Honestly I wish I had watched this video before buying one from ebay. Apparently the one that I got was the bootleg. I 100% agree that they did a really good job making these fake Sonics but for some reason my bootleg has an imperfection with the front facing brackets. Everything else is perfect but it's just that one thing that pisses me off.

My bootleg curiously has a much yellower yellow light, and the tip of the emitter on my bootleg lights up better than the tip on my official.

Thanks a bunch for bring more attention to this and also covering this. I found out about the fakes back in Jan when an small Aussie KZfaqr posted a vid and i stumbled upon it at random. I have a boot leg my self. I Actually got done by a seller who didn't know it was a fake. Its scary how good of a fake this one is compared to the 11th/12th doctor's sonic and i swear i would of never known it was a fake If not for videos like this. Unfortunately this is all you can get in Aus right now, The real CO Screwdrivers has been held up because of the battery compartment is not complaint (which i believe is bs).

I got scammed twice too. Once from eBay - about $50 AUD. This one the electronics didn't work, sent it back for a refund and then happened to come across another KZfaq video about the bootleg Sonics and it turned out mine was the same fake. Talked to eBay again and they refunded straight away and shut the shop down, but obviously they still keep cropping up. Second one was from an online retailer in Australia that sold genuine CO products. This one was about $70AUD + postage so given the price and the company, I assumed it must've been genuine, but alas it was the same as the eBay ones. Got my money back from PayPal thankfully.

I would think that these bootleg sonics are made at the same factory in China as the real ones. I don’t think it would be possible for someone to design and manufacture a copy this good and this quickly. For years loose CO figures at cheap prices from China have been sold on eBay. I think when they manufacture them, they make “extra” and resell them through unofficial channels. China doesn’t have the same kind of legal protections as the US or UK. CO probably knows this goes on, but has to put up with it to get the official products made.

I got mine on eBay and it seems to be a mix of both. It has the bootleg box, the gold chrome on the bottom matches the bootleg, and it has less of the emitter shaft showing when closed like the bootleg. Everything else: the colors, the led brightness, and the crackle effect match the real one.

Hoping CO re-releases this sonic soon, highly unlikely but, we can only hope! Good video comparing the bootleg to the real toy, saddens me to see bootlegs of the sonic now :( Also I noticed that the "BBC" logo in the bootleg packaging has a slightly different font xD

Y'know, I was looking at buying this screwdriver, but I think i'll just need to chalk it up as 'missed my chance'. If there's this many bootlegs out, I wouldnt want to run the risk of being scammed. I get what you say about it being a nice cheaper alternative, there's just too many where the price doesnt reflect that and are passed off as official with a markup price. I'm glad I found this video before I rolled the dice and bought one, thanks so much for educating us. Much appreciated.

I am happy to have it in my collection and I want to thank you for the data and comparisons you give in your videos.

Apparently mine was a bootleg but it works just fine, the core is clear/white so the colors just shine. Speaking of, you can get all four colors on it. If it wasn't for the stitches facing a different direction I would assume mine was legit. But considering the price, rather have the one I got already

Great video! I was wondering why the ebay prices were so cheap after the second wave was released! I was able to get two of the real ones shipped to the US after the long wait on the CO website 😄 Honestly if they just made a few tweaks, it could be even closer to the real one. Mine is a bit of a puzzling conundrum as it seems to be a bootleg based on the packaging but has really convincing features like the original. The green, yellow and red are much more pronounced on mine so matched the original. I bought it online for around £45 I think 🤔. I genuinely can’t tell if mine is a bootleg or not. I don’t think it is since it doesn’t have the issues you mentioned in the video apart from the packaging 😅. Xx

I bought mine knowing it was most likely a bootleg, and i dont know why i expected it to be good. I bought it just to have but it dosnt even have other colored settings (that and the chrome really being the only reason i bought it). I heard that they had those settings, but i guess the world was cruel to me

Turns out I’ve received a fake, but I’m not even mad because it looks and functions so accurately to the original that I’m very happy with it and TBH if people knew exactly what to look for they wouldn’t be any the wiser. I’m a bit disappointed though I can’t lie. 😁😁

Hey mate the bootleg sonic is more closed in than the official character options vertion while the bootlegs amitter u can see the prongs of the sonic in closed mode isnt flush like the charicter because the sonic itself has a slight iperfction due to the quality control of the button placement

Hi! I'm from Chile. What do you think of the screwdrivers that Ebay sells? Are they better than the ones on Aliexpress? I bought the 12th Doctor single button version screwdriver and it is evidently fake. Do you think Ebay is more reliable?

I was comparing mine to yours and I have found it interesting how different mine is. First is the crackle, Mine has some kind of printing/scanning artifacts, from a distance it looks fine but when you look up close its fairly noticeable. It looks as if they may have fixed that on your version I was waiting for you to attempt to get the bottom of the screwdriver off. The top part is SO bloody tight, the glue has actually let go and left its now stuck on the bottom of the screwdriver. While yes it already "broke" its made changing modes so much easier now that the nub actually wants to come off even if its leaving part of it behind. Onto electronics. It has the super long delay. I noticed but thought the CO sonic did that too. It also has the mode button and is as temperamental as yours. Sometimes it doesn't even beep at all. All modes and sounds are accounted for but the double tap is a little funky, It plays dims the led but it also cycles the leds going from white to red to blue as its dims. "Blue" is a just white. It has like a hint of blue but its mostly white. It looks like your yellow mode. Double tapping the button. Green is a nice bright green, maybe a little brighter then even the CO screwrdriver. Yelow is actually yellow, not the same yellow as CO but it looks like the correct 13th doctor sonic colour. Red is a bit brighter then yours but nowhere as good as CO. Im thinking of ordering another direct from china. Like 2 more, one of the online version and the retal for like modding but i would love to get the real deal even if its just the retail version. I still have a preorder for it open its just stuck because of laws on battery compartments here in aus. Its stupid.

In my opinion this seems passable especially if your going to cosplay with the online exclusive version cause your not risking damaging an actual character options one if u managed to get the official version cause all the features are there and the differences are cosmetic like in the fine details and the shade of the color in the leds but overall not a bad option for this since the official version is so hard to get

i prefer the blue setting on the bootleg to be honest, im so surprised by the similarities overall

I’m wondering if mine is a fake now, my box looks just like your fake ones box but the sonic looks more like your real sonic, lighter blue, stitching on the back, easy to remove bottom part. got it for fairly cheap on eBay so it’s likely to be fake but if it is, it’s a good fake. Knockoff sonic industry is upping its game

Well turns out the Christmas gift I got was a bootleg, how nice

I got one from eBay just the other day for about £45 not knowing that it was fake. After watching this video the packaging is the only thing that stands out as wrong the colour is just slightly off it's fake just a much more real-looking fake than you got there. After comparing it to a real standard version from Amzon (well I hope it's real lol) the sound is quieter but sounds the same as the real and the light is brighter which might be why the colour looks a little off on mine. Will have to hunt around to find a real one now lol.

ya know, I kinda figured I got the fake ones, considering when these came out originally I was a tad broke. So I missed out. The ones I got I'm happy with. Does that make me a bad fan? Does that mean BBC isn't getting their cut? Well. I dunno. I will say if they wanted my money they should have had these run a little longer in a less limited release.

They got me again I got what I thought was the 14th but got this version aka the KO version, ok nevermind it looks KO as far as the box is concerned but the screwdriver look legit, colors and all but it has a delay so it's a fairly convincing KO

the coloring on these bootlegs is kind of fucked lol, I’ve bought like two and one of them had the regular color scheme but one had a much fuller blue, but yellow had no light at all! That is until I dropped it and I guess something on the inside jostled and it went back to the regular color scheme with the whiter blue and yellow that works. They feel like a sonic with zero quality control

You make pretty good videos but I don’t know quite why you are taking certain style cues and blatantly copying the jokes that Votesaxon07 was known for in his videos before being arrested.. it’s very off putting to be reminded of a murderer when trying to watch your videos, just wanted to speak my mind there. Very interesting to learn of the fake versions though, thanks for spreading that information it’s a pretty close copy, I don’t think I’d spot it without seeing this video for comparison.
