@@PureVikingPowers WTF his friends and classmates were holding real, engineering jobs years ago already, building Iphones. If he can't at the very least do a quality, _comprehensible_ Inception rip-off, what good is he. They probably cut off too much of the umilical cord when he was born. I hear thats where the maths, engineering and art quality glands are at. TL;DR I'm glad to see young minds still endulge in creativity. There is so much we need to know to be well prepared for current day society, its important that we make sure creativity still have good room. If we don't leave room for that, society and development stagnate. Then regress.

Plagiarism , Chinese phd student at a U.K university where i live was arrested and locked up for copying another's work . It's quite a serious thing at U.K uni's . Not too sure if the student was aware of thus fact , or just didn't consider it a big deal . Not sure how long he was imprisoned for , but was subsequently kicked out of U.K after release. What you want to prove here? When a Chinese plagiarises, you are freaking surprised, " omg! Chinese all cheating". And if British cheats, you will say: "oh, he just a guy with bad charaters, it doesn't matter. Most of British will never cheat." In fact, during 3 years Undergraduate study, I reported 3 cases of cheating on exam. Two of them are British, one is Korean. Me and my friend may review together

Great Video - I just wanted to mention further on the original creativity. I'm an Architect and Engineer - and it amazed me after venturing to China, that most of the signature awesome looking architecture was all boutique projects designed by western architects and in many cases the serious looking buildings engineered likewise by European, American or Australian firms. Do the locals hold any of this in their mind when so passionate about the cities they find themselves in?

I had a junior chinese engineer working for me that when he was supposed to design a circuit he copied one that was already patented. I was suspicious because he completed the design far too quickly. Theother thing that drives me crazy with the Chinese is that they will continually tell me everything is fine until the day they are supposed to deliver and then they fail.

There was also the case with Sea-Gull 1963 chronographs. A decade ago or so Sea-Gull (=Tianjin Watch Factory) reissued one of their older models of watches that had been issued to PLA pilots in the 60s. It was a limited edition. However, a few years ago, these same watches popped up again, made by a few other companies (Red Star, for instance), but with the same, perfectly legit Sea-Gull movements (ST19). So it's kinda of a Chinese copy of a Chinese watch, but kinda not, since they all use legit ST19 movements. Then Sea-Gull decided to take advantage from the rising popularity of the 1963 chronograph (thanks to those other companies) and released another limited edition of the same chronographs, with small differences though, for 400$ when the other companies were selling it for 200 - 300$.

Thank you. I appreciate the insight from Matt at ~1:50 - it is an articulate description / rationalization of some background behind the concept of putting society over the individual versus the opposite here in the US (and admittedly being willing to greatly harm our society to protect individual rights). Having traveled to China many times on business, I've had a lot of exposure to China, but lack the cultural insight that comes from "living China". I've found a lot about China that I respect, even wish we could learn from SE Asian cultures (although, China has become scarier over the past 2-3 years since I was last in Shanghai), but there are these topics that are so counter to my own cultural identity, that they are simply hard to explain / rationalize / understand. Also, what's the history behind C-Milk?

I live in lafayette louisiana and in 2002-4 they had this corner shop with a homemade 7-11 sign. a poorly designed one at that. it stayed there for a few months before they were forced to change the name. I'm not sure what year which is why I said 02-04. A lot of locally owned places steal names of big brands. for instance there is this huge skateboard company called Rukkus. well now we have a skates hop called Rukus with 1 k. that's just one example. or another is anything peanuts or scooby do. there's a towing company called scooby do that even has all the characters painted on the side of their trucks with the mystery machine van as well.

This village is ridicilous and cool at the same time. I remember watching some pictures on the web few years ago i think, i'm not sure. Or maybe that was another place in China with a same concept heheh. When chinese knock-offs are good, i don't mind buying them, and right now chinese industry starts to actually produce good stuff, for example i'm a happy huawei honor 6 owner and i know a lot of people here in Europe who switched to this system by now. Probably gonna try that Xiao Mi action camera this year i think, since i sold my GoPro and need another such camera this summer. Can't wait when China will start making good photo gear, it will happen eventually. So far i only own YongNuo flash which i'm happy with.

"gauges don't work on his bike" *The electronic gauge? Generally cameras don't have the same refresh rate as displays. Eg a camera shows a dot for what the eye sees as a "8".*
@NorthernChev

Dai Qibao His g-a-u-g-e-s... Google "gauge". they're the thing's that tell you how fast you are going and how many RPMs the engine is doing. The gigantic ROUND things attached to his handlebars. You don't own a vehicle do you? lol The electronic component is not a gauge, it's a scrolling advertisement for his website...
@DaiQibao
@DaiQibao 7 жыл бұрын
NorthernChev "The electronic component is a scrolling advertisement for his website." *Oh, okay. My best guess is it didn't work when we bought the bike and there's no point in fixing it.* *A reason can be to prevent odometer readings for a higher resale value. In Japan, video of a speed "gauge" above the posted limit can result in a fine delivered to the owner. On KZfaq, videos of speeding odometer readings has been videos that where disabled.* *FYI The scrolling advertisement device looks very much like an electric speedometer.*

piracy and copyright violations are pretty common in China , which I think is not good for startup innovation but good for simulation and learn to adapt. I currently live in US , most American think China is barely a copycat and definitely hate this part of Chinese culture.

I think it's a good way for chinese businesses to take their first steps so to speak, like a test run - where they can take apart a popular product, see how it works, what makes it popular and other things. I like to show people an old radio my grandparents had at their house, which was made in japan after the war - but was basically a very basic radio put together from american parts, then you see the products coming out of japan today, which are usually unique to a specific company, developed over many years and of a high quality.

the reason we protect IP is to foster innovation. The fact is the biggest cost with a new invention is the huge amounts of time capital investment and risk in developing the new invention. If someone else does all the heavy lifting and takes all the risk and you get to steal the reward, no one will bother innovating and the society stagnates. In the west we often credit our success to the printing press but china had it centuries before. It was mostly patents and intellectual property that spurred innovation in the west and allowed us to leap centuries ahead of china and the lack of IP is why china didn't advance at all between the 12th century and 19th century.

Hey SerpentZA and C-Milk, thanks for the video and I just wanted to say some things about Hallstatt (since I'm from Austria, born in Salzburg but living in Vienna now). They copied Hallstatt because it is said that is one of the most beautiful village (or city) you can visit in Austria. The church you visited in the copy village isn't a church at all. It looks from the outside like a church but it is missing a lot of things inside: the small water wells at the entrance, where the holy water is stored, the benches for people and the most important thing: there is no altar or a cross behind the altar. I went with my wife to real Hallstatt and we met a lot of Chinese tourists there. The strangest thing was they wanted to photograph our food that we ordered. You can also rent "Trachten", traditional clothings in the town, they even put an Asian person (can't tell if it was Japanese or Chinese) on the outside of the store as advertisement. It was very weird to see Chinese people in Trachten going around.

I teach Chinese exchange students from the mainland who are studying for their BA degree and I can't totally agree with you saying that they are always mindlessly copying everything. If I give them an assignment, they often do original and fun things. Maybe they are a bit more progressive, being foreign language students and such, but I don't think that they lack originality.

I've become a big fan of your videos and really love them. I agree with your views on this copying thing but I have to disagree that that "European" village has nothing to offer. I would love to visit it just for the fun novelty factor. I wonder if any of the restaurants there actually are in service because if they have enough traffic it seems it would be a great idea to have them actually serve food. Here in America, we have a town that has cheap, scaled down, replicated structures of other cities, such as Paris, New York, and Egypt, all within the same block...Las Vegas.

Nice video as always, I really enjoy watching it. About the 'Running Man' thing, I want to provide some background knowledge. The reality show '奔跑吧, 兄弟' was originated from the Korean show 'Running Man', and the Korean company who created this show also made this Chinese version by cooperating with the local channel. The background music used in this show, actually any show in Chinese TV program, is authorized by Universal Music Publishing group, through a company called 松巴音乐. You can find the information here: www.songba.org/about.asp, if you are interested, but unfortunately, it is only in Chinese. I would say piracy in China is definitely a big problem, such as the cars, the brands, the electronics stuff etc. But in recent few years, copyright of the TV shows and music is more and more addressed, especially in big media companies. I actually can find more Chinese TV shows for free on youtube rather than Youku and IQiyi because of the copyright issue.
