If he had even a tiny bit of mobility and finesse, he'd flourish in Europe, without the defensive 3 second rule. He'd be an amazing rim defender, but it'd be really hard to keep him on court because of court spacing and finishing issues.

His per 36 of 13 points and 14 rebounds 4.7 blocks and .149 WS/48 and 67% field goals made says he's not that bad. Mostly garbage time minutes but it shows he can excel in a couple of aspects of the game. On the flip he's also a disrupter because you'd have to change your offense to be effective with him. He's both good and bad. Coaches don't have faith in him because he isn't super skilled and moves slow but he's also a giant which you can't teach. No more thoughts of positionless play with him on the floor. If he played with quality NBA starters that only cared about winning I think they could find a way to work with him and cause problems for the opposing team for 20 minutes a game. Get under the basket and catch a high pass and either dunk it or shoot from really close or get fouled. He's physically strong, but he can't shoot free throws so that's a problem with feeding him in the post. If he shot better than 70% from the line he'd have gotten a better opportunity. He's playing internationally now and maybe the money is good with that so I doubt he'll get another shot because that isn't common for guys now.

It's funny how Wemby has to keep his game face on after dunking even after he gets hit by the ball that he just dunked. That aside, Tacko having honed his basketball skills in the USofA gave him less of an edge than one might realize. As of this writing, the European players (for lack of a better collective term since they're not all from the EU) are dominating the NBA and Luka even declared that it's easier to score in the NBA than in the Euro League. Luka then proceeded to drop 73 points on his own, as if to emphasize his point. A tougher league breeds stronger contenders, who would have thought? What's my point? Tacko had an easy time "filling his role" in college as he's very tall and there's no one really there to contend with him and subsequently help him improve his game. His G-League games (after having played in the NBA already) showcased his dominance again as he instantly goes back to being one of the best among the unselected. TL;DR - I think Tacko never got to improve since he never had anyone challenging his playstyle in college or even going toe to toe with him on the vertical, which resulted in his poor basketball awareness/IQ.

I don't get why the tone of this video is so negative. Tacko expectations were not high. He showed good effort and I think he did well considering the limited minutes he got, yes the current state of the game and rules that don't let bigs camp in the paint hurt him. But that's not his fault. He could have played more in the NBA, he probably just prefers to do well in China than warming the bench in the NBA.

The only reason why Taco Fall was not successful in the NBA is because the teams he played for weren't using him as the focal point if they ran the offense through Taco Fall I guarantee he would have Shaquille O'Neal numbers because let's face it, what's the difference between him and Shaq? Because Jack is big and he was slow and he wasn't shooting three-pointers. I know it was a different time for basketball but still Shaquille O'Neal was like the most famous and highest paid player in the league at one point in time and now he's living life from all that money he made from being the most highest paid player and the most sought-after player at one point in time in the NBA. And here we got Taco Fall who was probably a better version of Shaquille O'Neal because he's not as heavy set as Shaquille O'Neal but I bet Taco Fall can literally do everything shock did probably even a little better if he was given the chance in the opportunity and if the offense was ran through him like they ran the offense to Shaquille O'Neal when Shaq played. Let's face it if Taco Fall posted up into the paint every time and they just threw the ball over head to him near the rim he would score every time, similar to how they used to do shocked when they just toss Shaq the ball while he's by the room and Shaq would just post up spin around and dunk the ball or toss it in the basket

@Ezekial2517
@Ezekial2517 4 ай бұрын
This is a dumb take because he wouldn’t be quick enough to keep up with guards in the 80’s or 90’s either. The problem is, Why should he be asked to keep up with them? Why can’t NBA teams deliver an entry pass to a man being guarded by 7’ at the ABSOLUTE tallest? The same thing was happening to Wemby early in the season. Why the Spurs weren’t finding a way to let him touch the ball once every possession had me question whether or not Pop was mailing it in this season.
@pkmk3010
@pkmk3010 4 ай бұрын
@Ezekial2517 no man the floor spacing and pace of today's game is not the same from 00's and below Back then having 2 bigs that clog the paint is actually a good strategy, and since guards didn't shoot as much, tacko could just stay inside, unlike in today's game Less space, less movement Better for Tacko Also the better player with better strategy has to be the one you need to keep up with Tacko isn't a once in a generation player so don't treat him like one

This, 100%. Players need to learn how to pass the ball down into the post again, or coaches need to learn how to add it back to the drills. Tacko was the world's biggest target and no one on any of the teams he played on had any idea how to feed him the ball. The Spurs also have taken over half the season to figure out how to pass the ball to Wemby, and they still can't do it nearly well enough to take advantage of Wemby's size and quickness, which forces Wemby to have to create his own shot way more often than he should need to.
