We didn’t have supportive parents either and we are immigrants! I have two sisters that moved out at 14 and 16 yo. One is very successful (20mill range, 14 yo). I think it was due to my mother always saying she wouldn’t make anything out of herself. The other did exactly what mom did. Same place of employment, spends money which she doesn’t have. Just like mom! Myself and litter sister did pretty well too! In rental business (own), sister owns gym. She does personal training which she is always booked and has to turn people away. She has hired other trainers to take her overflow, while working on getting theirs off the ground. Nice to have a waiting list.

Same here 😔 Most of the people who are successful don't always realize what a strong foundation is to have good supportive and loving parents in order to become a successful and independent person. If you came from a poor background and had a difficult childhood and you manage to create your own business or success you should be so proud of yourself because you have really done it all on your own. This is someone to really admire.

Wonderful talk! To get my first professional job I offered to work for free just to get some training, while still working 2 other part time jobs. That was the consequence of letting the wrong guy choose me and daring to walk around with a big belly at the age of 16, and then having to support both he and my child. My mishap and consequence therefore drove me, for like you Barbara, I was insulted by family stating they were surprised to see me even graduate. (I now have a handsome son, a beautiful DIL and 5 grandchildren and a second-chance husband of almost 30 years.) I learned anything and everything I could at any job to gain knowledge and to make myself indispensable. Now I’m basically debt free, earn a good living, have a solid asset & retirement portfolio. But I’ve also learned the importance of sewing into the kingdom and helping others, for you always reap what you sew. It’s important to give back. (I could go on and on…..) Thank you Lord! I love real. I love relatable. I have grown from this talk and you have confirmed something for me Barbara. Thank you both for sewing into my life. So much respect for you. Can’t imagine any haters coming against either of you. Hugs 🤗

Barbara I love that shirt. I hope you interview her again. She’s amazing. Blunt and honest. “The curse of a learning disability is if you can get over it you have gotten really good at failure. You grow up and knowing what failure is about.” I’ve never thought about it that way. That statement truly impacted me. A statement I will never forget. I’ll have to get Tic Tock now hahahaha “You just have to make a fool of yourself”. Barbara, I want to be like you when I grow up.

Thanks Erika. I don’t know Shark Tank because I don’t have TV. But I saw a short video of a KZfaqr touring her apartment. And so the algorithm presented this interview. I’ll look for episodes of it later to see what I can glean. I relate to her starting from a large working class family , working from age 13. My father called me the entrepreneur which is a memory I cherish. Barbara mentioned it’s not about the money so much anymore- and I would like to recommend a book I read recently. Title: From Strength to Strength. The description of it on Amazon is terrible but don’t let that deter anyone. I’m nowhere near retiring but it was full of things for people of all ages to consider and prepare for. Some of it is about sharing the wisdom that comes from experience. I hope Barbara will talk more about how we can better ourselves and our lives. I know how to work hard and I do it-but not smart. For example-How do you find trustworthy people to teach us how to work on the “paperwork” of our businesses? Best wishes to both of you.

I didn’t know much about her, but her story is very similar to mine (minus the millions 😂). I wasn’t just cheated on, but had an attempt on my life. Had a husband who always said I’m stupid, you’re nothing without me blablabla… that only gives me the courage to live on and move on. I am definitely stronger than I ever thought I’d be. I actually thank for everything that happened to me. You only know how strong and capable you are when there’s no alternative left.

Barbara is real. She never puts on airs. I liked her on Shark Tank but I wasn’t sure why. Now I know why. She is real. Her comment that being in business isn’t about the money but about building a team and seeing how far you can go together touched me. I also thought that her comment was really more about who Barbara is than anything else. She would be cool, IMO, even if she weren’t as “successful” as she is.

Barbara invested in a restaurant (on Shark Tank) in Alexandria, Virginia not far from where the new Amazon headquarters is located. I had worked especially hard one week so went there to end the work week and was disappointed when I learned that she no longer supported the restaurant but that she did continue supporting their barbecue sauce. The impression that was given is that her investment money was being used to open other restaurants which was not part of the original deal. Barbara is exceptionally bright and did the correct thing. Please don't let a bankrupt education system tell you otherwise, Barbara !!!

I have never seen even on Shark Tank and I found this interview fascinating. I also have been in RE for over 42 years, and many of the things she talks about defines me. I recognized inflation when I was 7 years old and didn't have a penny to buy a 6oz coke at a baseball game when they raised the price from 5cents to six. I only had a nickel. So I literally looked in the dirt for a penny as any kid would do and I was able to buy that coke...which then paid me a penny for the empty bottle. From that point on I saw the houses go from 12K to over a $1m. Same house, 60 years later here in LA. I started buying homes in LA, Phoenix and Hawaii at the end. Somehow, as a lowly teacher, I put myself in the top 1-2% of the nation financially. I did that on weekends and summers when I was not teaching. It is all about creativity, not money. RE is all about being creative and putting deals together. I ended up with 114 rentals over 22 years, then quit buying RE because I had enough. I focused on luxury locations, and small houses that needed cosmetic work. Inflation just rode them up like all the rest of the neighborhood homes. It was a no- brainer. I started in 1978 buying my first house in LA. Taught school for 33 years at the same time. In RE, I might work for 36 hours straight, but not one second of it felt like it was "work". No many of them are paid off and are by the best beaches in the United States. Barbara is right. She did the same thing on a large scale that is public. I did not, but it all worked out just right. Thanks for this interview Barbara! I finally can put into words what I went though, and I can really smile!

Hi Erika, This is my first time watching your video. I've learned a lot from Barbara. I knew her from Shark Tank, I love that show. However, I couldn't learn anything about each one of them like Barbara. Now that I know more about her, I love her. Wow!!! What a courageous woman. I take off my hat to her. Not only I love her, but I admire her. Please tell her if you ever come across her again or if you communicate with her. I enjoyed your channel, and you have a great personality. You asked the right questions, left no tables unturned. It brings out the attorney in you. By the way, what's your area of expertise in the world of law? I am looking forward to seeing you again and other guests you may bring or maybe legal advice you offer through this channel. Thank you over and over.
