@@fss1704 While you make a good point about the poor working conditions in China the fact is that the economic growth over there due to all the international trade is likely to ultimately become the catalyst for change. Like it or not real change on that front can only come from within when workers begin to use their collective power to bargain for better whether through industrial action or political action. Fact is that people will only really start to feel empowered to risk taking action when they see the potential benefits outweighing the risks sadly if anything like the way things went in post industrial Europe the industrialists will get pretty damn rich off their exploitation before workers mass together and demand their fair share to any meaningful degree. Hell you can see that even when looking at the west where things have been deteriorating again for quite some time and inequality has been steadily heading back towards those sorts of levels but they are still getting away with it, seems like this is going to be a cyclical situation every few hundred years until something major in the current economic model changes honestly.

Unilaterally making a real long term difference would not be quite as simple as merely increasing wages and cutting hours as that would ultimately result in a more ruthless competitor taking advantage and driving the company to bankruptcy which results in all employees having zero hours for zero dollars in the long run. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that there aren't ways to improve working conditions but to make it work long term it sadly does need to make sense from a business perspective. Don't get me wrong here my point of contention is not that there is no scope for a company to lead by example so much as your argument that doing so is in conflict with providing good pricing for consumers. That logic only works if you accept the assumption that employee productivity would remain unchanged even with better working conditions which actually goes against my own experience as a business owner. That said even with the numbers to show for it I still have no luck convincing other employers that it can be done the implicit assumption that the only way to make money is to give employees the bare minimum allowed by law is too in grained to get past their initial instinct to dismiss me as a complete idiot lol. Still as I say it certainly can be done but it is not a simple quick fix and making a success of it at least in my own experience has been a team effort with my employees and does involve a lot of other incentives and promotion of the right working environment to make it work (Mostly focused on making employees feel truly invested in and appreciated by the company so they actually want to put in their best).

That's how it works. I think none of the current world's leading companies started by doing something unique, they created something that was already done but in a bit different way. Amazon wasn't first to sell books online, Facebook wasn't first social media and Windows wasn't first operating system. They just did something a bit differently that people liked and/or found interesting and improved the product until it became the new standard and they had basically no competition.
