Funny story i never knew about blue cheese dressing until i went to this place called kings its like a bowling alley restaurant and arcade place. When i ordered some wings they brought me what i thought was ranch so i ate it and i thought to myself this has got to be the best ranch i have ever tried and never had i ever found such good tasting "ranch" until a couple years later i went to buffalo wild wings and they asked me if i wanted some blue cheese dressing and i for some reason said sure why not and when i tried it there it is, there's that delicious flavor i once tried and wasn't able to find for years except it wasn't ranch it was something much much better. Blue cheese dressing.

How did people discover this? It probably went this way. There was a family who were living inside a cave. They were going to die of starvation. The only food available was cheeze that already had a lot of molds in it. "What are we going to do?" "Let's just eat the cheese. We will die anyway." The cheese did not give them diarrhea, so they sold it outside for money, and they lived happily ever after.

Apparently a shepherd left his lunch in a cave and forgot about it in Roquefort (or near there) when he returned and found his cheese he found the mold made it tastier or so the story goes.

yeah theyre so good, and i really like and agree with you mention it being the best of both cheese and mushroom worlds.... some people before ive known the subject of blue cheese was brought up and they would mention they dont want anything to do with it cause of the mold yet they have no issues eating mushrooms, was able to change not many but a few minds on the subject cause they just didnt realize mold was a nutrient sapping fungus as are mushrooms, and as such not some sort of always toxic plant or whatever i suppose they assumed

It is an acquired taste. I used to hate it but when I traveled to Europe and got the chance to taste different types of cheese, I must say, my taste buds have started craving for blue cheese. Hmm. It's so good when you pair it with the right wine, the cheese even brings out the flavor of the wine, it compliments it. Now blue cheese (Roquefort) is on top of my favorite list, the sharper, the better. I always make sure I bring blue cheese home everytime I travel.

Yes! I used to be so scared of blue cheese and I didn't quite like it. But it's an acquired taste. Now I must say, after a few occasions of being served blue cheese, it's now my most favorite of all cheeses. Roquefort, and Gorgonzola. Sometimes the sharper the taste, the better! It's excellent especially when paired with wine!

The mold is actually a plant, so they technically have leaves in them.

mold is not a plant it is a fungus, and while not entirely correct either, it is more appropriate to think of it like cheese with mushroom in it and yeah id probably not risk trying casu marzu, maggots are often associated with sickness only cause usually what theyve already eaten is toxic to humans but as long as that is not the case it could fine considering theyre not any sort of toxic on their own, however being situational parasites they do have the capability of surviving inside of living things which could lead to.... well, lets just say a sort of problem very much not worth risking

It depends on what kind of mold is used. This one is in the penicillin family, same mold is used to produce the medicine.

I love Bleu cheese i can eat it straight out of the container with nothing alongside it. I did have the unfortunate experience of eat old moldy Bleu cheese, I put my hand in the jar to take a handful of it and didn't see the white mold on it. It was one of the grossest experiences ever next to the rotting milk I drank once. But that hasn't stopped me from appreciating it, just make sure you inspect it.

Hilariously enough, I'm very allergic to penicillin, my wrists peeled as a baby when it was given to me for an infection. Yet, I have been eating blue cheese for 10 years and only learned today that it has penicillin in it. Lol! Guess I'm fine with whatever this strain of penicillin is! 😆
