Hans Kundt is an actual real historical figure, however, he left Bolivian service in 1933, after Bolivia lost to Paraguay, in a war that he basically ran for the Bolivians. Kundt was a World War One veteran of Prussian stock, sadly, his war doctrines didn't really fit a place made out of rainforests and nothing else, fucker deployed tanks, the Paraguayans basically just went Finland on his arse.
