Wow, thank you so much for showcasing some of the best distilleries in Kentucky. Woodford reserve, Jim Beam, buffalo trace and old forester are amazing bourbons. I'm a Kentucky native with a irish and Scandinavian heritage. To say I enjoy fermented beverages is an understatement.

Love this video. A lot of the shots of the warehouses is clearly Buffalo Trace, and the tour guide is Freddie Johnson. Very interesting interview with him and his father is out there as part of their "Oral History" project. Buffalo Trace was an absolutely amazing experience and I recommend you stop by if you find yourself in Kentucky. One thing to note though is the statement made in the audio clip regarding consistency coming from batching several barrels @8:28 is inconsistent with the video shown which is Blanton's bottles being filled. Blanton's is a single barrel bourbon from warehouse H at Buffalo Trace and every bottle contains bourbon from only a single barrel.

"It's not temperature, it's barometric pressure" Uhhh you get one with the other anyway, change the temperature of a gas and you will change the pressure and vice versa (they have a direct relationship). I understand that he means it is the pressure differential from the inside and outside of the barrel that moves the whiskey, but why can't you just say that. "The changing temperatures effect the barometric pressure, and depending whether the whiskey is hotter or colder than the surrounding air inside of the barrel will fluctuate between positive and negative pressures. This pushes the whiskey in, and then pulls it out of the wooden barrel giving it its colour and flavour." Fixed it

Sl if the bourbon barrels will cause the bourbon to taste differently, how do they ensure the bourbon we buy will taste the same?
@redletterl78
@redletterl78 7 жыл бұрын
Toni Capone Most whisky including bourbon is a blend of many barrels, referred to as a batch, which results in a consistent product. Batch sizes vary depending on what the distiller is producing. Some whisky is "small batch" usually meaning that fewer barrels were used to make that batch. These bottles usually state the batch number on the label. Additionally, many distilleries produce single barrel whisky, often at higher proof - taking the best matured spirit to produce a premium product. But then you do get variation between bottles from different barrels.

Nope. Bourbon must be made of a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn. Bourbon must be distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume). Bourbon must be aged in new, charred oak barrels. Bourbon may not be introduced to the barrel at higher than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume).
