How Britain transformed from a colonial power into a global financial power. At the demise of empire, City of London financial interests created a web of offshore secrecy jurisdictions that captured wealth from across the globe and hid it behind obscure financial structures in a web of offshore islands.

Wow, I truly learned something totally new about London and the City of London today. I never new they were basically two different entities with different laws. Otherwise this is a documentary that should be showed at prime time television around the world so that voters can recognize what is happening.

Yeah, it is insane how much power these bankers are. In the city of London even if your a British citizen and haven't committed any crime other than perhaps trespassing climbing up some bank building you can get entirely banned from the city of London and if you re enter it even when travelling though the subway underneath you can be thrown in prison. That's happened to several parkour and roof climber guys and probably many more people. Its possible a similar thing could happen to people if they go into the city of London to protest this evil usurious banking system that holds us hostage.

Okay, this documentary is fine and all, but it's not done it's research properly. The City of London is not run by a private company, and does not have a private police force. Every municipality in Britain - Glasgow, Manchester, Bognor Regis - used to call it's public municipal authority a corporation and every corporation used to have a police force. It's not that the City is a private entity, it's that the public entity of the City Corporation is run solely by and for representatives of private businesses who have successfully lobbied for it to be left in the 19th century. It gets away with it because its resident population is negligible and its population of huge corporations is enormous. But a lot of London's dodginess doesn't even take place in the City - a lot of it is in the Docklands, in an area run by a very much "normal" council.

I always wondered how the UK is still such a large global financial player. Ultimately Banks are just a tool controlled by these powers. Who ultimately has the authority to issue fiat money? - The crown does. Who has to ask permission to enter the city of London? The queen does (the crown) Who owns the city of London? Not the crown, then who? The corporation does. what is the corporation?

Books about World War I are not popular in the USA because they are depressing. The world’s great European powers destroyed a generation of men in pointless bloody battles. Few Americans realize that World War I was America’s worst foreign policy blunder that killed millions and set the stage for World War II. When the “Great War” began in 1914, royals and generals hoped for swift victories. However, advances in technology, mostly machine guns and artillery, allowed concentrated firepower to annihilate attacking formations. The war in France bogged down into a bloody stalemate and the construction of fortified positions ensured that any offensive would grind to a stop. The king of England and Germany were first cousins who grew up together, so a peaceful resolution was likely in 1916. The problem was that British bankers had loaned its government lots of money and most could not be repaid. They wanted to win the war so they could loot Germany by requiring Germans to pay reparations so the British government could repay them. If they could lure the powerful USA to join the war, victory was assured. They blocked peace efforts and used their agents of influence to manipulate the USA into joining the war. Soon after President Wilson was elected with the promise to stay out the war, he worked with Congress to declare war. As a result, the war dragged on for two more bloody years before enough American men and material arrived in France to turn the tide. The war was unpopular back home, leading Wilson to censor the US mail by blocking anti-war newsletters and magazines. He threw thousands of political opponents in jail, implemented a draft to fill out the Army, and sent these reluctant Americans into battle with little training and poor equipment. The Americans fought bravely, but the Germans had three years of combat experience and chewed up American units foolishly thrown into frontal attacks that had little chance of success. After four years of war, the Germans had no more manpower to replace losses, and surrendered based on a just peace promised by President Wilson. That never happened and Germany was looted and humiliated, which led to the rise of the Nazis and World War II. So this Memorial Day, remember the 116,516 Americans President Wilson killed in that senseless war. Moreover, the American intervention extended the war and resulted in World War II. American GIs slaughtered Germans so British bankers could collect debts, with interest! I was inspired to write this blog post after reading the brilliant David Stockman’s recent essay about America’s disastrous intervention in World War I. The “Suez Crisis” is considered the official end of the British empire. The British weakened by idiotic World War I that led to bloody World War II. At the end of that war, the British were bankrupt but needed to deal with rebellious colonies. The British still had many troops in Egypt and Middle East. American President Eisenhower and his bankers refused to lend yet more money to an arrogant, overextended and dying empire. This led to a British financial crisis and a controlled collapse.

@@DachampsterStudios They prevented the rise of a countervailing power on the other side of the Atlantic with the potential to give the United States a run for its money. Germany would have absorbed Flanders, the industrial belt in France, Luxemburg and Wallonia. It would have taken over France's colonies in West Africa and the Caribbean. This was a daunting prospect for the few hardnosed strategists who perceived this and for corporate America swiftly expanding over the world, suddenly faced with a technological and industrial giant. Wilson had an idealistic view of a world conference where disputes could be prevented or settled (perhaps with the aid of American leverage). Wilson's worldview ultimately failed (for reasons too complex to include here) and the League of Nations collapsed.

Your comment about American GIs "slaughtering" Germans is pretty ridiculous. People die in war and I'm don't believe that any US troops or any of its allies operated inside of Germany. The western front was frozen in France and Belgium for years and moved very little until the Germans retreated back into Germany. Yes WWI lead to WWII but whose fault was that? Maybe the allies should have occupied Germany the way they did after WWII to ensure they couldn't rearm which is exactly what they did. The American military went home and was basically went home and the went back to work. At the beginning of WWII the US had a relatively small army and didn't ramp up its industry to build planes, tanks, etc until the need arose again due to the Germans declaring war on Europe again and the Japanese swept across Asia and the Pacific. You can draw any conclusions you wish about the fallout of WWI but America didn't get involved directly until the last year of the war... even after having merchant and passenger ships sunk by u-boats, Germans literally blowing up docks in New York to destroy good and supplies to be delivered to the UK, etc. I really think the US showed great restraint through the first half of the 20th century. George Washington himself said in his farewell address that it was better that the US stay out of any European wars, but how long can you watch from across two oceans while people are tearing the world apart and not do anything? Especially when you have the resources to do something about it.

Really ironic how they count private African money as public money that should just be confiscated and given all the payoff African debt. To add even more insult to their audience thinking they're a bunch of idiots. In one sentence they say that the African nations added after this banking system is set up. Totally ignoring the fact that the African nations were poorly run, corrupt and ran up their own debt. I'm not saying the banking system isn't wrong but don't just b******* us and think we are just another set of rubes just like the banking system has treated us. People in charge African countries if you don't do business with them you don't get the business and believe me China and Russia has no problem paying them off. Everybody says we shouldn't do nation building. Then want to get involved in changing after up country or somebody with different values to our standards. Are concerning another country is not change them but what benefit do we have in doing in doing business with them. That also includes what does the working class step have to mean from doing business with these countries and it's just cheap labor it's to the destruction of established Western cultures to do business with these countries. I covered a lot of points probably seem to conflict under the established that I don't just support big business to the destruction of its own people. The financial establishment did what establishments always do, at the end of Empire they found a way of retaining control. The public-school-, Tory-party-centred nexus of semi-informal relationships is the core of the establishment and it works for the benefit of a small minority of "the public". Trusts, of a somewhat different kind, were used to secure aristocrats' hold on their wealth after the war within the UK, as well: "We don't own this wealth any longer, so can't be taxed - we just still control the trust, though, so we still enjoy many of the benefits of this wealth." @@1956paterson I totally agree with you, that’s the utopia. However Western nations developed over 500 years on the notion that work is a necessity of existence with a reward in the afterlife. And a strong work ethic is still considered an admirable trait. To remove the necessity of work will be a huge cultural shift…also, one wonders if governments and businesses will really share the enhanced benefits for the situation you describe…I hope so, but there will be a battle to ensure the shareholders of said businesses do not just enrich themselves.

But a lot of London's dodginess doesn't even take place in the City - a lot of it is in the Docklands, in an area run by a very much "normal" council.

corruption happens at all levels, it's just the sums of money involved are higher at the top. Actually, I am wracking my brains to work out what is actually wrong with storing money offshore and having a "trust". When you consider how fragile the banking system has been shown to be, not to mention lack of privacy to protect from goons coming for your money, I really don't see the issue. If Britain became authoritarian and confiscated all this wealth, or threatened to, then the capital would leave to a new territory.
