I was the guitar player for the support opening band for Burning Spear 2000 Calling Rastafari tour on the mid east coast of the USA from VA to WV, and North Carolina. Burning Spear had just won the Grammy for best reggae albulm “Calling RASTAFARI”. In my opinion it was his best studio album. The live from Paris may be the best live album in his massive catalog of reggae classics. The 2000 Calling RASTAFARI tour was a special tour for me because my band had opened up for burning spear the year prior; and this year, Mr Rodney personally had invited us to do some more shows and be his supporting act. This was a very special time of my life and I thank Jah, and Mr Rodney always. Mr Rodney was very stoic, yet witty. He was the real deal, people around him had a great reverence and respect. He earned respect due to his determination and dedication to music and Jah RASTAFARI. His burning band was some of the best reggae musicians around, and during sound check they would play other kinds of music to lock in their chops (Jazz, Blues, Latin, Funk) They were all consummate musicians, very experienced and disciplined. Mr Rodney was strict on the road, they all had to be on the bus at a certain time, and had to get to the hotel and back on the road with zero tolerance for being late. The Soundman for burning spear offered to do my bands monitor mix on stage, that was so nice. The monitor mix is something a hack sound engineer can screw up, and then it makes the show less sonically enjoyable for the band and also for the audience. However during the sound check he was cool with me watching him operate the huge house mixing console, because I was young and hungry to learn how he made Burning spear sound so incredible. I learned so much that summer, not just about music, but about life and Jah, and the mysterious yet glorious and also difficult history of King Haile Selasei RASTAFARI, In Winston Salem North Carolina Burning Spear’s lead guitar player wah wah pedal broke. On the next night he asked if he could.borrow my wah wah pedal. “ Of course you can” I said, and we bonded there and kept in touch for years after. He also used it after my bands set to play with Burning Spear the following night until he was able to find a store to buy a new wah pedal. You have got to have that wah wah sound bredren. It was cool meeting Burning Spear, watching spear interact with fans and his band, managers, even the bus driver. He put his band up in the nicest hotels in all of the towns. He was a generous unique man, who fully understood the music and business side of his work and life. He was full of the love and joy of Jah. Some greedy people would eventually try to take advantage of his music and he fought them with the help and love of Jah.

If like me you are from St Ann and know where St Ann’s Bay where Burning Spears is from . And where Nine Miles is where Bob Marley is from you would know that they wouldn’t bump into each other on the way to the farm as the dry harbour mountain is between these two places. St Ann is on the north coast and Nine miles is on top of the mountain in the middle of Jamaica 😅😅😅
But a donkey can carry him All the way to africa if no Sea Just land. what do you think of Donkey go as a Donkey how far can travell With Bob 😂😂😂

Burning Spear is not a Musician but a Singer. A Musician writes Music. A Lyricist writes the Lyrics. Instrumentalalist plays music instruments. A Singer does just that - Sing.

As someone from St.Ann it bother me when people say “St.Ann’s”. The apostrophe s should only use to show possession e.g St. Ann’s Bay etc (The Bay belonging to or in the parish of St.Ann). Do yo say St. Elizabeth or St. Elizabeth’s ?
