Updated version of this video! • C3, C4 and CAM Plant P...
A comparison of C3, C4 and CAM plants. Plants have different systems for harvesting energy depending on their environment. A sugar maple tree in New England faces very different challenges in temperature and humidity than does a cactus in the Mojave Desert! Note the strategies used by desert plants in order to effectively preserve their water in an arid environment, and to perform Carbon Fixation!

BOGObiology I really like the video, have a question about CO2 intake though. So every time a plant intake CO2 it simultaneously releases oxygen? (O2). I see cam plants intake CO2 at night so that means they release O2 at night as well? Thank you.

I can't describe how much this video helped me while i was preparing for my biology exam. This video gave me more information just in 12 minutes, while the professor wasn't able to explain it for a couple of lessons. I've been holed up in my apartment in Boston for the last several weeks, though I've gone out a couple of times (with a mask!) to buy groceries for some neighbors. Thanks, Cool Bro! I'm actually not teaching any more, but I taught for almost a decade. I made this particular video while I was teaching 11th grade bio and Anatomy & Physiology. Glad it was helpful! -BOGO

Great video! Thanks for sharing! Quick question - What does the leaf anatomy of the CAM plant look like compared to C3 and C4? From what I've seen online, it looks like it may be similar to C3 anatomy?

girl.. thank you soo much like this video helped me a lot!! not only great visuals but also amazing explanation WHICH I BOTH NEED A LOT CAUSE MY TEACHER SUCKS LOL and like a lot of people in the comment section (kinda surprised me) i also am from germany and english is my second language but my english is still better than my german somehow lol- but nonetheless i understood *everything* that you explained 100% so thanks now i know how these plants work - keep it up! and i need to get back to work to keep studying for my final exam byeee :3

Thanks, Yuna! It's interesting, I'm based in Boston and originally made this video for my students here. However, it has become far, far more popular with German students! I tried to bribe my friend into writing German subtitles for it, but she doesn't have a science background so she couldn't translate the technical language. Oh well, we tried!
