The most sacred sword in the Asante Kingdom is the Busumuru Sword. The who uses this Busumuru Sword to swear the oath of allegiance becomes the ASANTEHENE. Only the Asantehene uses the Busumuru Sword to swear the oath. The paramount chiefs (amanhene) use the Mponponsuo Sword to swear the oath of allegiance. The Asantehene uses both the Busumuru Sword and the Mponponsuo Sword to swear the oath of allegiance. When the Asantehene sits in state, the Golden Stool is placed on his left, followed by the Busumuru Sword. The Mponponsuo Sword is to the right of the Asantehene.

Adanse people were the first to build houses and established their kingdom. Adanse was defeated by Denkyira and Denkyira took over the kingdom of Adanse. Asante defeated Denkyira, but allowed the Denkyira to stay together and keep their defeated kingdom.
