With the Canucks down to their third string goalie and the series heading back to Nashville, do the Predators feel they have a real shot to come back in the series? How can Vancouver help Elias Pettersson snap out of his slump? That's Hockey gives its thoughts.

What we are witnessing with Elias Petterson seems obvious to me , and I wonder why no others have picked up on this . Elias is a player whose skill matches Bobby Orr , both physically and mentally . Orr elevated the level of play from his teammates ... It's obvious that Elias postponing his on ice excellence to encourage maximum performance from his teammates . He is showing them that once they can function at top physical performance without him... That is the moment that he turns on the light switch and becomes the hero we all know he can be.. What we are witnessing here is simply a demonstration of human psychology from a brilliant teacher Elias Petterson. Essentially, he is just the mother bird throwing its babies from the nest and teaching them how to fly without her support.... Once the individual Canuck players " LEARN HOW TO FLY " without Elias then the rest of the NHL beware . I believe the Canucks will advance over Nashville , and once Edmonton series begins , Elias Petterson will unleash the demon waiting behind his veil of controlled leadership...

Hmm so what IS the problem with Pettersson? Whenever he is on ice, Nashville is paying attention to him, thus taking away defence from someone else. It's not like Nashville ignore him and double team someone else cause yeah Pettersson is in a slump so no need to guard him. The real problem is that he is stuck with playing with the all star plug Mikeyev, who can't shoot nor pass. Every time he comes on ice and he see the clown Mikeyev screwing around, like honestly what can Pettersson do?

Better line mates would help. Mikheyev 1 goal in 50 games and a 4th liner in Hoglander who put up good numbers vs bottom 6 competition. Play him with lindholm and give him some higher end help. Blueger can easily slot back in with Joshua and Garland as that line was fire for 3/4 of the season. Tocchet plays his favorites and wants everyone to play like him, a boad grinder and a gritty plugger. Not smart.

It would be so amazing if just once the Canucks could get credit for anything. Vancouver has scored 12 goals. Nashville has scored 12 goals. IF Vancouver "Isn't scoring a lot" THEN NEITHER IS NASHVILLE. Vancouver outchanced them bad last night and lost because of a lame penalty call and then obvious goalie interference. Canucks get so few shots while Nashville is totally peppering them by getting the second fewest shots. It's just ridiculous. Never give Vancouver an ounce of credit for anything, ever.
@Xyy2387

It would be amazing if fans could look at the team objectively. Give the team credit for keeping pace with an opponent that scores less and gives up more goals? Being outshot 2 to 1? You do realize we had no business winning both road games right? You do also realize it took a recond setting 2 goals in 12 seconds to eeked out a win in game 1? Like it or not, this series could already been over in favor of Nashville. In actually we should've had this wrapped up by game 5. There's one GLARING reason why it's this close.

@@AnthM33 Why are you bringing up the Edmonton game. No one gives a shit that Skinner bailed them out. As for game 3, come on man. It was the total reversal of game 2. Both winning teams for those games stole one. That's not even debatable. We gave up almost 60 shots, 30 got through vs our 12. We were dominated in the dot and out hit. The difference was special teams. We've scored 2 PP goals this entire series, both in game 3. As for game 4, seriously? We were dogshit for 57 minutes. Forget about the result for a second and look at the process. It was by far our worst game in this series. You re-run the last 3 minutes 10 times, we lose 9 of them. What transpired happens once in a blue moon. I'm not saying it was a fluke but it's highly improbable.

@@Xyy2387 the oilers are frauds. Get outshot. Frauds. Also 2 to 1? The Preds have 28 more shots in 5 games. That’s less than 6 per game more. The Preds have the second fewest shots in the playoffs. Canucks still have the edge in shot attempts. This notion that the Canucks are getting lucky and just barely scraping by while getting outplayed is absurd. It’s just not happening. It’s a close series. If they had Demko and/or any ability to finish then it would probably be over already. Canucks own 55% of the high danger chances too.

I think it mostly a system issue, maybe on-ice-/off-ice chemistry dynamics, which might been informally systemized into the formal coaching system, that gradually wears him down - even if it's the right system for the team. My tip: Make him want to win for you, that will take him out of his head and focus on giving his all. This is the fans-player dynamics that could contribute to Stanley Cups being won. You can say "man up" or whatever, but it doesn't help. He is clearly not the player for you: you cannot change a personality like that. It is just North American Machoism, that has not contributed to these kinds of players' success in the first place. (Or maybe there's an unknown injury... And yes, I think he should be traded but now you got him, so make it work.) ** Watch the emotional outpour from said fixed horizons: **

Tremendous value and ROI. Another thing worth mentioning is that they were leaders on and off the ice. Actual leaders, not some marketing ploy like we're seeing with Pettersson. Bruce is absolutely right. I know Petey is a big boy, but all the criticism he's getting is weighing on him. I can tell he's the sensitive type, and it's causing his confidence to be at an all time low, which then affects his play and performance. He is the type who needs reassurance and fans believing in him rather than constant criticism. The ironic thing is that all the fan and media hate is just going to do more harm than good, and it will be this neverending cycle where the more hate he receives, the more his play will suffer, which then causes fans to spew more hate. The other thing is Tochet gives him some of the worst wingers to play with. Mikheyev has absolutely no finish...

He isnt built for playoff hockey. Especially when another team tries to pick on him.

@Nickh4929 Correct. Couple that with constant "injuries" that are never confirmed or denied. Disappear for months at a time. Mentally and physically fragile. In the end, we have a streaky injury prone 2C, which we're paying generational talent money for. He's also not a kid anymore. Enough with the excuses.

He just signed a 12 million dollar contract and now he's done sucking up for it. He has no loyalty

@@Xyy2387 he IS a generational talent, but yeah he's got to produce to actually live up to it when it counts to be worth his contract. Definitely wouldn't say he's physically fragile, he's generally pretty healthy. Mentally I thought he was solid but this playoff series has me rethinking that one. The skill is clearly there, guy just needs better wingers and more than anything needs to get out of his own head.

@jshklt You sure? Is Brayden Point generational? How about Kyle Connor? Perhaps Marner or Nylander? Or Zybanejad, maybe Marchand? How about someone we're all very familiar with, Miller. Is he generational? I would say say no to every single one. All these players have out produced Petterson in the past 5 years. If he's not injured, why can't he skate or shoot anymore? Where did his shiftiness go? If he IS injured, why is he playing 80+ games for the past 3 seasons? His disappearing act isn't relegated to these playoffs. It happened before, and now it's a pattern. This is what he's giving us: 1 ES goal in his last 29 games. 0 ES points in this series. 0 primary points in this series. 1 primary ES point in his last 9 games. Unacceptable. These are emergency call-up numbers. He has played with plenty of quality forwards yet nothing has gelled for any prolonged length of time. In fact, he's been a factor in dragging these combos down. This begs the question, why can't he drive a line consistently? Why are we forced to prop him up? Remember, he's apparently "generational." Call a spade a spade. He's a talented yet streaky 2C with massive holes in his inner game. At 8m, he gets a longer leash. At top 5 in the league money, it's much much shorter. If you're getting paid to be THE MAN, then produce like one.

Trade Pettersson. He’s got no grit, got no bite. Canucks ought to learn from the sedin sisters getting chewed out by bruins, hawks, over n over again. Winners are fierce, strong, and confident. Pettersson is a sedin, cute n fancy but useless in the playoffs
