The parallel between the church praying to Christ and the wife sharing her wishes was very helpful!

This topic is one area where mainstream Western culture is very hostile towards Christian values. I think part of the reason for this hostility is that people misunderstand Christian authority. In society, we are surrounded by examples of people in authority using their authority to get something for themselves at the expense of the people who are under authority. For example, a boss at work will usually delegate the unpleasant jobs to an employee. But Christian authority is totally different. Those in authority, whether church leaders or husbands, are supposed to be the servants of those under their authority. The values of the world are turned on their head. So, for example, in Eph 5:24 Paul says: 'Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her . . .' How did Christ love the church? He volunteered to suffer torture on a cross for it! And this is the pattern for Christian husbands! In other words, Christian husbands are supposed to be enormously self-sacrificial in their relationships with their wives. They lead in the marriage, but not by delegating the unpleasant tasks to their wives, but by usually doing these tasks themselves!

That was helpful teaching. Husbands have authority over their wives, but this doesn't mean that they have a monopoly on wisdom. A good, humble husband should ordinarily be often asking his wife's opinion on things and altering his plans when he thinks she has said something wise.

Men are more logical than women, and a man is the head of the house, what he says goes, that is the Biblical teaching, and faithful true "Daughters of Sarah" meekly submit and obey!
@maxaplin4204
@maxaplin4204 2 жыл бұрын
@@earnestlycontendingforthef5332 If you mean that husbands shouldn't often be asking their wives' opinions on things, I would certainly disagree. The Bible has examples of women in leadership and/or using God-given wisdom. For example, there is Deborah: 'Deborah, a prophetess and the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. She would sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to settle disputes.' (Judg 4:4-5; CSB) There is also the wise woman of 2 Sam 20:15-22, whose wisdom saved the inhabitants of a town from being killed. And in Acts 18:26 we are told that Priscilla and her husband Aquila 'explained the word of God to [Apollos] more accurately'. Note not only that Priscilla is mentioned before her husband here, but this goes against the Greek alphabetical order. Women should certainly meekly submit to their husbands and obey, but a good husband will be constantly asking his wife what her view is on things. He will try to lead by consent as much as possible. And he will take care not to go too far and end up controlling his wife.

@@earnestlycontendingforthef5332 I didn't deny that a husband has authority over his wife. But you are reading too much out of Gen 3:16 to think that this means that a wife will never have good advice to give to her husband. You also seem to haven't taken account of the passages that I referred to. When we are forming our views on spiritual matters, it is essential that we take ALL passages on a topic into account. You seem to have an overly simplistic view of Gen 3:16, and you are using that to control your interpretation of other passages. That is not the right way to use the Bible.

Does Ephesians say "Wives submit to your husband's in everything.....unless you think he's making a mistake "??? You can state your disagreements if he wants you to do so. If not, then no. Husbands will make mistakes and do things their wives do not like. A wife submitting only when it she agrees with her husband is meaningless. Submission only has any meaning when she disagrees, but submits anyway. Thinking you should continue to resist him means you really aren't submitting to him. It doesn't matter if he is making a mistake.

You really should be ashamed of yourself for defending the Bible. The following barbaric amoral abhorrent foul disgusting verse is from the Bible: Deuteronomy 22:20-21 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall *stone her to death.* She has done an outrageous thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You should be ashamed of your dumbself for praising a God who orders the slaughter of even one infant in any context: 1 Samuel 15:3 3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. The simple fact of the matter is Biblical marriage has ceased to exist some 30 years ago. 99% of women today constantly compete with the husband and view him as disposable. Women today have successfully turned marriage/divorce into a financial contract. A contract in which the man assumes ALL the risk and the woman can break said contact, at any time, for any reason, at the man's expense.

I married a "Christian" man when I was 21 years old. He was a religion major. His first job was youth pastor. He emotionally abused me for 20 years. He was careful not to leave physical bruises. All of our church leaders told me to submit to him. He almost completely shattered me mentally. I finally divorced him and was shunned by my "church family". I worked for that church as an administrator for over 10 years. When I left and had no support... the pastor cheated on his wife and left her and their 3 children for a fling. After I went through the valley of the shadow of death... I met a wonderful man. He was agnostic. I, however remained firm in my Christian beliefs. This wonderful man was/is the kindest, sweetest, nicest, most generous man I have ever met whether inside or outside of the organized church. We married and this man is now my Christian spouse. He is smarter than I am in many ways as I get emotional. I'm smarter in some ways about finances, etc. I'm here to tell you that I believe that this is what the Bible is telling you. Submit to one another. Acknowledge each other's strengths and weaknesses. Work together. Would anyone like to tell me where I'm wrong here?

I'm so sorry to hear that...I'm happy to hear you've found a wonderful Christian husband. I'm currently engaged and it's definitely a journey trying to understand and live out the covenant of marriage God intended it to be. The submission has been a tricky one for me because I was taught to be independent and after many bad encounters with men I was very guarded. But through learning to submit to God in those areas that were uprooted I'm discovering more and more how to submit to my fiancé for marriage. I definitely agree recognizing each other strengths and weaknesses is super important and pointing each other to Christ in all things keeps a healthy and loving relationship. Living out what scripture tells us and essentially casting away societal norms I've found that both of us are much happier because we recognize God created marriage and knows its purpose--not us humans. When we submit to God knowing it is His creation we can grow so much closer to Him alongside our partner. Thank you for sharing your story, I can only imagine how difficult it must have been. Hearing testimonies such as yours is always an encouragement. God bless you!

But God did not leave us for dead, He sent His only begotten Son to die in yours and my place, so that anyone who believes in Him and repents of sin will be saved from separation from God, and have eternal life! I urge you please put your faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him, He promises to save all who cry out to Him and have a humble heart. But these things aren't mutually exclusive. There can be submission AND harmony. And it is important to understand that Christian authority is very different from the kind of authority that we see around us in the world. In examples of authority that we see around us, the person in authority almost always uses their authority to get things for themself. But in Christian authority, the person in authority uses that authority to serve those under authority.

@ SJG Mutual submission is that demonic lie that enables wives to be in total control. The Bible only talks about mutual agreement once : for sexual abstinence. It says sexual abstinence must be mutually agreed upon so that no spouse can be frustrated and tempted. But this has nothing to do with that lie of mutual submission which cannot be enforced in a marriage since , like any relationship , it requires a head to function.

Ephesians, Peter I’ve wrestled with these verses for a few years now and struggled to understand them. These are my problems with these verses. 1)men are not God so why do women and churches expect so much from them? 2. aren’t women supposed to be Christ like and Godly 3. The ‘lay down his life’ verses to me indicate that ‘death do us part’ from the man implies that the woman doesn’t have to love him until she dies? 4. Where does the protection party come from biblically because I don’t see it in any of the scriptures? 5. How far does this go regarding making decisions? For example if the husband says “I’d like 3 children” and the woman only wants two does the couple have 3 children because it’s what the man wants? 6. Why can’t a woman look after herself and then have the help she’s giving her husband as additional help? Why do Christian women feel the need to do everything for their husband?

You are looking it from the modern perspective and that is why you have questions in your mind. Look at it from this framework and everything will make sense- Women are not created as equals to men, the christian god created man first and then just so the man is not alone, he created woman. So the role of the women is just that of a helpmate, not equals. She is just there as a supporting character while her husband is the main character, and supporting characters do not have much of a story, they just help the main character. The man has to take the lead and his decision is actually the final decision because according to bible, women must submit. We do not question the decisions of people who are in authority, and husbands have authority over their wives. Personally I am sick of christian wives preaching to tie your tongue, obey your husband, work from home and all that stuff. I kind of got annoyed at how brainwashed they are but then when I look at this through "Wives are just helpmates" perspective, it all makes sense.

Not only roles are different, their position is also different because women can never have authority or leadership over men. They are just birth giving machines.

@@ezung102 I'm sorry, how is this political? It might be sensitive in the United States where it's been made political but I'm not American nor in the U.S. and KZfaq is also all over the world. This wasn't meant to be offensive or provocative. I was just trying to make this topic relevant to today's events. I genuinely think it applies. (Romans 13.) Every Christian can check their own attitude with God on this topic. That is just my humble opinion. I'm really surprised you think it's political. It isn't for me or for anyone in my country. Maybe there's a message for certain countries too about submitting to God. If it's not biblical, please show me. Anyway, I won't comment anymore.

This is exactly what I am currently questioning my husband's wisdom on, as I feel more spiritual than him, yet as my husband I want to submit to his authority. I wonder if this comment was just for me. Pray that I can follow God's will and submit to my husband without feeling constantly conflicted.

@@vanessacabello71 Oh man, submission is hard when you feel like a husband, boss, parent, leader, or president is harsh, out of touch or incompetent. Caiphas and Pilate certainly appeared to be better because of their earthly authority yet we know who Jesus was even if they didn't; and more importantly, Jesus knew who he was yet he still submitted. I love 1Peter 2:23. When you know who you are in the Lord, you can entrust yourself to him who judges fairly. He sees it all. I also like to ask God to show me how he sees me. Next to God's holiness, we are more like that husband, boss, parent, leader or president than like God. It's a fallen world and we all need his help, patience and mercy. Trust me. I've been there yet God is there for me. Think of what Jesus submitted to for your sake and God raised him up! We can surely follow his example and submit for him. God will reward us and help us because we are really submitting to him. Will he give us a snake when we ask for fish? I will pray for you and your husband, for your marriage and that you both cherish each other. God bless and stay safe.

The bible tells wives to submit to their husband in everything they do. Even if they kill someone agree with them 😆

No it doesn’t. If it doesn’t violate the commandments. Basically if He isn’t sinning of course you should t submit to sin. Either your being facetious or willfully ignorant.

That's neither true nor accurate because it either intentionally or ignorantly neglects the most important phrase in that verse through omission. Here is the verse in full: Ephesians 5:22 "Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands AS TO THE LORD." (Emphasis mine). As to who? In other words, "Wives, place yourselves under your husbands' authority as you have placed yourselves under the Lord's authority." First, the Lord doesn't ask you to do wrong wrong. Secondly, you don't do wrong in the name of the Lord. Thus, submitting to your husband doesn't mean that when he invites you to participate in evil deeds that are contrary to the bible, you sheepishly follow. As someone created to be a helper to the man, that's when you need to lovingly share your perspective and help him see what you're seeing. And all this also depends on the kind of relationship you've been having...

@@SamuelBakutana "whe he invites you to participate in evil deeds that are contrary to the bible , you sheepishly follow" Funny how what you're saying relates perfectly to what the woman did with Adam and not the reverse !
