12:01 I lost my sewjo for about 40 years! I always made my clothes up to about 24 years old. Now I have retired I’ve picked up on this again. I’m loving it and cross with myself for leaving it for so long. All those years I could have been happily creating 🤷‍♀️

I can tell you spring and my garden will help me to work through the slump. This year's especially coming just in time. Thinking of that question causes me to remember when I use to work in the jewelry business. We were contract Jewelers for 8 stores. Christmas was so much fun just being part of such a huge celebration of Christmas. I was always so depressed it was over. But then I would walk in through arcade 4 at Century Plaza in Birmingham that doesn't exist anymore it's an Amazon fulfillment center. JCPenney's would have out all the beautiful spring clothes and Easter dresses. It always snapped me right out of and wouldn't be long we would be celebrating Valentine's.❤

When I think I am in danger of losing my sewjo I tidy up my sewing room which is something I never do 😂. Just seeing everything I have makes me inspired again. Plus I go back and watch old VivMom videos!! She always inspires me with her makes as you do. I also go online and see what the stores have just got in, seeing what the new styles are. I just have so much right now I want to make but just not enough time 😅. Your flowers are coming on a treat 👏🏼🌹🌹. Thanks for such a great chat and sorry you were poorly on your birthday ❤ x

When I find my love of sewing waning I go to the stores and look at expensive clothes then look at the inside and see how poorly they are made, then I think I can make that so much better and I do 💕

When I was a child my mother and grandmother made all our cloths some was store bought patterns. but our favorites would been when we got the Sear's and Montgomery Ward catalogs. We would take days and pick out what we liked folding down pages. Then Mom and grandma would get busy with newspaper and scissors cutting out patterns.

Oh gosh your shirts turned out so pretty! Cant wait to see your process. Maybe thats the next pattern you can release!!!!? Your flowers are going to be gorgeous this year. Thank you for sharing them with me. I can’t wait to see the progression up to and including the bloom. Sure wish you’d send some of that rain my way because it is a dust bowl here. We were sitting around at the Quilting and soing expo and thinking it would be so nice if you could have been there to join us. We’re gonna have to get you involved in one of these adventures very soon hang onto that sewjo because isn’t it funny how it can just escape at a moments notice? I need to get in the room and cut out some thing to get me motivated again also. One of the best ways that I get motivated when I feel like I’ve lost it, it’s just to watch all of, my favorite socialists on Fridays and see what they’ve made. You guys always get me go on again! Have a great weekend and happy sewing❤❤

My sewjo goes when life gets busy and stressful. I just can’t sew, if I’m tired. I try to spend a little time creating, each day, but my preference is longer sewing sessions and seeing a lot progress before stopping. Tidying and puttering in my sewing room can help me see the next step on a work in progress, and remembering what what needs to be done next, usually motivates me to come back to it. Have a great week! -Deborah 😊

I made (most) of a tank top last night. It’s the first thing I have made in a long time. I printed two sizes and then decided I could just do the lower size and of course it’s too tight. But I will reprint it. Sometimes I really enjoy the assembling of a pdf. Especially since I just do it in sections and not the entire pattern. I have some daffodils coming up but real planting won’t happen for two more months. I just do flowers and it’s something I’d like to get better at. Love your chats so much!!!

This is a great practice. Although I am new and loving learning to sew. But when I’m overwhelmed with projects I haven’t finished and don’t know what to do next I clean and reorganize. It works for me.

Hi Stephanie I get the same way about doing my crafting and DIYing. I take pictures of home decor I like and then think about how to make it. Funny, I have never been able to make clothes to wear, but anything like costumes, I can make. I think it's because if the stitching is off on a costume no one notices, lol! I even once made a shirt for a mascot costume, just by eye balling the material and cut it and stitched it together. It actually was wearable and comfortable, but so hot, made it out of fleece. I probably should have used a lighter weight material, but live and learn! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on how to get out of a slump! Have a happy crafty day! 😊😊

I'm coming out of a recent slump and today I made myself take just the next very small step on the project I have in the works. I told myself that all I had to do was do that one small step. That kind of broke the ice and taking the next step and the next became very easy. Thanks for the great suggestions! Enjoyed the peek into your garden 😊

Generally, I find that when I clean up my sewing room, I tend to immediately get the itch to mess it up again. So, I start sifting through fabrics and putting together projects in my mind… the sewing room doesn’t stay clean for long! 😂 I also have what I think might be an unusual approach to picking out fabric/projects from my fabric stashes. I stack a bunch of folded fabrics together in a neat pile, where I can only see the folded edges. Then I Pretend that I’m shopping in a store, or borrowing clothes in a friend’s closet, and I look at the stack as though it’s a stack of folded clothes, with the idea that I am looking for “a top” that I want to just grab quickly and wear That Day. Whichever one looks like it’s a cute top is the fabric I pull out of the stack and make a top out of. This helps me because I sometimes have a difficult time matching fabrics to projects. Great video! I can’t wait for your new ruffled top video! They look adorable! I also want to try and make and wear more woven! Oh, BTW, I just taped together, and cut out your pattern Hoodie Hugs. Your body and my body have the same measurements around. And I cut the 3X as per the sizing chart. Is that the size you make for yourself? Im still trying to decide on fabrics, but I expect to make it very soon! 😊

I love this idea!! What do I want to wear? Then make it!! I think I cut out the 2x. Just do a fit check and if it’s too big, you can reduce it. Always better too big than too little, lol. Hugs 🥰🥰🥰

My motivation to sew usually comes from someone wanting me to make something for a church event...like now I am making a Jesus costume for our Passover Sunday. It gets my mind to going on things that I want to make. As soon as I pull out some fabric it starts the juices to flowing and I am sewing a little bit of everything...there is a little one year old girl at my church that I have pulled several fabrics to make her some dresses and shorts. It's not like they need the clothing but since I didn't get a granddaughter I missed out on making things for her. The flowers are going to be gorgeous.

I sewed clothing 20 years ago when my kids were young and enjoyed it but now I just sew bags, quilts and crochet. I’ve tried lately to sew some tops for myself but gave up and just tossed the project in a bag. I just bought a pattern online, Simplicity 9270, which looks simple hopefully. I have lots of quilting cotton which the pattern calls for cotton. 😂

Hello, hello, hello! You have the most joyful music on your videos that I find myself dancing happily around! Your flowers are going to be the best! Great job on making your own patterns and tops that you like. I keep clothing magazines that are sent to me to give me ideas I want to make too. Buying them would take away all the fun!😂 If I lose my sewjo then I'll do some mending or work on a project around the house that hopefully won't take too long so I can get back into sewing. Or I'll take everything out of my sewing room and clean to see what I have and to rearrange things a little for a new feel in the room. My sewing room is tiny so it doesn't take me long....ha...I just finished a dress and the fabric wasn't good so I donated it to charity today. Turned out too big and I fussed and fussed with the whole thing all the way through. So I'm making it again out of woven fabric and I'm going to like it!😊 McCalls 8104. Have a great weekend!

I usually find inspiration on Instagram, KZfaq and Pinterest when I've lost my motivation. Sometimes I get bored if I make too many easy things so I need to make something challenging and that helps. I am so excited to see how you draft your top!! Don't worry about being messy, that just makes it more real to me. Sometimes when people do things so perfectly and neat, I think I could never do that.

Looking forward to seeing the new tops.. especially the sleeves 😊.. it looks like you may have more tulips than last year.. hopefully they'll be out by Easter... I just finished sorting out the second half of my fabrics.. which included my summer fabrics .. this definitely gave my inspiration.. and seeing many of the Sew Frugal patterns has helped inspire some new ideas as well 😀

I can't wait to see the top, the process, the construction, the final result. I'd love to do the same but I think I need the security of a pattern. Your mashup was a great place to start but you're so fearless in the way you approach constructing your clothing - send some of that here please! And who needs the Netherlands with all those tulips out there? And daffodils? Can't wait to see those blooming either. Do you say "in like a lion, out like a lamb" or "in like a lamb, out like a lion" for March? I'd love to know the whole poems of the months - like April showers bring May flowers, May flowers bring June brides (or pilgrims if you're 8 years old 😂) - take care xoxoxoxox

I so enjoy your videos! Your enthusiasm is contagious. I look forward to seeing the mash up video. I do that all the time. I find it good fitting bodice and add sleeves from another pattern, add a skirt pattern that fits and have a new dress. It frustrates people when they ask, "What pattern is that? " And I list off 3 patterns. If I loose my Sew Jo I go browsing in clothing stores to see what's out there. They never fit but then I can go home and sew them. I have a HUGE fabric stash, because if I see a fabric I really like I buy it, if it's not super expensive. I also browse the clearance racks and if I find a garment/fabric I like and the price is right, I purchase it in the largest size available. Take it home and take it apart and recut it to something I want. Thank you for your videos!

I loose my sewjo a lot, usually when I have been sewing a lot and then burn out. I usually just put everything away and do something else - read, work on a scrapbook project, etc. Then usually I see some that I want to make and bring the sewing machine back out.

My sewing really slows down when warm weather comes. I might have a small hand project, like some English Paper Piecing or a small knitting project to work on sitting on my deck. Otherwise, once fall comes it's back into the sewing room.

I lost my sewjo about a month ago. I don't know that I want it back. I spent most of COVID sewing sewing& sewing. I DON'T NEED ANYMORE CLOTHES. It's a battle to get them into the closet. I hang my garments on a drying rack and it's usually the same stuff over and over. I've been enjoying shopping for RTW and finding interesting stuff. Seems most retailers are drastically reducing prices. I don't shop online. I seem to need to stop sewing, & thrifting. I'm enjoying hunting for that great bargain instead. And I've been finding many. Have you seen the reversible jeans and yoga pants? Toke them to Europe a great packing invention. Take less clothes bring back more cheap wine instead for the weight restrictions. Win Win

I collect pictures from catalogs that I get in the mail and look for patterns in my stash to duplicate the look. Today, I went to my local Joann’s to buy just a few $2 patterns and threads with the mantra, “sew my stash,” but a beautiful knit said, “Yell-ow!” And then another bird-print knit tweeted my way! Oh my, I came away with more fabric… 😅 I also tend to think in terms of what would I like to wear if I had it made up already or what is lacking in my wardrobe, then I get out a pattern and fabric and start working on the pattern to get it ready - measuring it, re-measuring myself, cutting it out…. It’s usually enough to get me going. I can’t work on multiple projects at the same time, so I have to get the garment “off the table.” 😊 PS: love the shirts you made. Looking forward to seeing you model them!
