Madras (Chennai) 1985 - Question #1 from Question & Answer Meeting #1
'How can I get at what you are saying without any effort?'
This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

It's because you fall asleep after that very quickly. A lot of us have become really good at falling asleep. If there is a goal in a human life then it must be to become better at waking up and staying awake. You pursue that until you don't have to anymore.

Being awake truly gives you great responsibility, so we rather go back to old ways and fall asleep

What a beautiful world we live in. What a wonderful existence it is. We poison it with our problems-with fear, with pleasure, with ambition, with attachment. If only we can end it then perhaps we can fathom total freedom and live correctly.

It is said that Krishnamurti ji was born unselfish. We are not so in general .Moreover most of us are brought up in a manner which strengthens our selfishness from the very childhood. Perhaps this is the reason that in spite of understanding intellectually and appreciating what he says we remain more or less entrapped in our selfishness and so his teachings, though profound, have little impact on most of us, I think.

Very possibly yes. It is hard for someone who has only known self-centered activity all their life and not known silence, to even conceive it intellectually let alone in experience. Hopefully, we are not doomed and don't need to be born with anything, as K's teachings always point.

Your comment begins with a presumption. Self preservation is deeply wired in the biological gene. But what Jiddu Krishnamurti happens to suggest is that self-centred activities have no pragmatic utility in the long run for the very preservation of that very "self".

Both minds are the same. Both minds are trying to achieve more. That is the one constant of all minds. Chase desires, follow others, avoid pain, avoid social judgement.
