It's crazy that one could daily drive and even do comfortable road trips in a 10-second car. Oh, and you can do it with out making your neighbors angry because it doesn't sound like a machine gun when you turn it on.

This is about what I expected. The owner was cool, and generous to offer the Plaid for review. I would also choose the blue with the cream interior, and getting the ($15K) FSD included made this a relative bargain. I loved the second driver's enthusiasm. Unfortunately, it wasn't in peak performance mode (as shown by the dash), and the rough road lost a half second from the times, but what is still apparent is that the Model S Plaid is a watershed achievement in automotive history. To get this kind of hypercar acceleration in a gas powered car, you would need it to be a dedicated drag racer, which wouldn't pass smog, and probably couldn't be legally driven on the street. Let alone anything like this quiet comfort, and safety, able to drive cross country more cheaply than a Prius. With cool tech, long range capability, and convenient reliable Supercharging. Like many overachieving cars, it is not a good fit for everyone. But it is a dream car for many of us who appreciate all that it can achieve with so little compromise.

Tesla has made supercar performance affordable for the average Joe. I never thought I'd own a car that does 0-60 in 3.5s for under $50k. Any prepped PLAID is low 9s, 154-158 vehicle in 21s”. Drop down to 19s” with right tires, on a real track, right driver, right wheels, right drag mode/Cheetah will get slightly under 9sec. I find the Plaid crazier. Maybe that's because I'm more used to going fast on a bike. Or the fact that this expensive Tesla wasn't my own vehicle. It is both Wonderful and Sad... that the Plaid destroys everything that came before it... the Silent Killer. I would not have had a poster of it in my room like I did the Lamborghini Countach, 4 doors just does do it for me emotionally... but the numbers do not lie. I think Tesla should start another company within Tesla... "The Plaid Works" to finally build the Roadster at whatever ridiculicous price and other cars that are limited production... hand-built custom bodied cars that even the likes of Bugatti, McLaren, Pagani, Koenigsegg...et al.... cannot match.

I love that idea, it would allow them to build a serious plaid model 3 with real sports seats, big brakes and charge 70k+for it easy. Also check out electric classic cars channel, he just converted a beautiful red 1980s testarossa into a teslarossa with 600hp+ and has a countach shell that might get ev swapped here soon. 😎

At 750kw from a 100kwh battery pack held for 10 seconds, this shouldn't degrade the batteries noticeably, it pushing 30% more power will start degrading them after several hundred launches. The batteries become less flammable as the discharge or degrade.

These cars accelerate super fast. But they have the most garbage excuse for brakes of any car with this kind of power. A car of this weight, with that power, should have gigantic brakes. And there is no excuse to not put big brakes on it when all its competitors do.

It actually stops just fine unless you are tracking the car and need to use the brakes a number of times. Car and Driver did a test of 0-150-0 and the Tesla did it quicker than the quickest ICE. Quickest ICE was a Porsche Turbo S at 19.3 seconds. Next fastest was a Corvette ZO6 at 22.5 seconds. The base 2023 Plaid with stock 19 inch tires did it in 16.2 seconds.
@Stuka87
@Stuka87 5 ай бұрын
@@rayshepherd2479 No, it doesn't. Pretty much every review of them with the stock brakes complains about the brakes literally smoking after a stop from a 1/4 mile race. It is a joke that a 1000hp car that weighs over 5000lbs has the same size brakes as a commuter car.

@Stuka87 I believe they upgraded the pads on the Plaid. The stock Plaid in the article stopped in the same time of 6.5 seconds as the Bentley Bentayga S. The best time for all the cars was 5.2 seconds by the Mustang Dark Horse and Porsche 911 GT3 RS. ZO6 Corvette did it in 5.7 seconds and the Porsche 911 Tubo S in 5.4 seconds. The Sapphire took 6.7 seconds. So the new Plaid seemed to do fine stopping from 150 one time. If you want to stop over and over, you need the Track Package.
@Stuka87
@Stuka87 5 ай бұрын
@@rayshepherd2479 The point is the Plaid should never have even been sold with the small brakes. At the time it was $131K. There is literally no excuse for the brakes that it had. The "track pack" does put better brakes on it, and those should have been standard.

A plaid is very quick, but only tops out a bit higher than the current crop of ponycars. A gt500 or hellcat is faster, but not quicker. The argument that this product could be dangerous because an irresponsible person can buy it is not cool with me. It's the same line of thinking around gun control, just because some people will do something stupid with it doesn't mean nobody else should have it.

It's was limited to around 155, it now is limited to 175 in track mode. 155 is a pretty normal top speed for a premium car. 175 is also not a really high top speed by modern standards, big displacement sportbikes go way faster and are even harder to slow down quickly. I guess my point is it's as dangerous as the person driving it.

I always ask okay please point to the Camry with 6 piston Brembo up front and 4 pistons in the back I never hear a response always crickets. The only time the breaks become a problem is when you try to multiple stops from 150+ in a row which is rarely going to be an issue. If for some insane reason, you want to track the car then get some upgraded brakes and brake fluid. Things got great breaks considering the car's 4800LBS. Will not be upgrading them when I get my Plaid that's for sure.

@@XxViciousxX I mean it out brakes almost every car in its class/segment of full size luxury cars, which says average stopping distance is 132' 🤔 The funniest part to me in regards to the Camry braking comparison? It stops shorter from 60mph than a Camry does. 122' for a loaded Camry vs 104' for the plaid per car and driver. And the lucid air a direct competitor is over 120' as well. 😀 That said imo something like the plaid should come with the carbon ceramics as standard. It's a heavy very fast very high hp super sedan. That should have insanely capable brakes right from the factory.

Brakes are powerful, because you have 1020 horsepower meaning you have a LOT of Regen power, the problem was brakes overheat, so now they are equipped with better brake pads so they don't lose braking power, also no one ever mentioned a sketchy suspension, that is completely not true. The old model S had smaller brakes had a lot less Regen power and weighted more and people didn't complain about the brakes, the problem with this was not braking power, it's brake fade.
