They survive well in the snow too. They have humps, snow shoes & eye protecting lashes. There's camel fossils dated back to when the North American region was covered in snow back in the ice age. They probably must have travelled west to east over the ice shelf like horses travelled east to west. Russia & Canada are connected there.

@salemsaberhagan Жыл бұрын
@@Cleeon If their fossils were found in Ice Age North America, that means they were present in Ice Age America. Doesn't necessarily imply they originated there. That's just the oldest record we have. There's two humped camels & also single humped camels. There's camels in the Middle East, in the Indian subcontinent, in Mongolia, in Poland, they could've originated anywhere. Considering that they don't have hooves & horses were also originally cloven hooved, & that horses crossed over from the Americas to Russia/Eurasia, it seems probable that they came together from America or they crossed paths on the Bering Strait. We'd have to see if the natives on both sides have any myths about horses & camels. The Bering Strait is basically an ice shelf. So any fossils there would wash away in the melting snow & salty waves. Horses do feature in native American mythology. We know that. So do cattle & dogs. But I'm not knowledgeable enough to be able to say anything for sure about camels.

@@Aces_of_Chaos I sometimes see camels. I want a lamb, they’re intelligent, they’re cute little skrunklies. I have a lamb named atlas at a local lamb area (which is very far sadly so I can’t get to see her). She loves pats, but everytime I give her pats, random bunches of lambs surround me and lick my clothes, or even hands. They even get scared when I look at them, or just try patting them. Cute, scaredy-cats, everything that I love.

Camels can eat sharp plants due to papilae inside their mouths and digestive systems that look like pointy cones and have the texture of plastic. These prevent any spines from penetrating but are still sensitive to touch so the camel is still in pain. The camel can also resist the toxic oxalates found in some cacti that can cause vomiting and diarrhea in other animals, even though these can cause kidney stones that are difficult to expel. The selection pressures to develop these hardy traits must have been astounding.

The humps are more flexible if the camel is not well fed or its thirst hasn't been quenched in a long time. The camel can turn excess carbs and water into fat and store it inside its hump, which grows large and solid when at capacity. During famine the hump is broken back down into its base components, causing it to shrink or droop.
