Thank you. This showed what I wanted to know very simple and short. You didn't add anything to make it longer. I appreciate how simple and short it was.

I just learned more in one minute about how a can lid is attached to a can body than I have in my 59 years of life on this earth. Thank you.

Much better than the old days of soldering lids on with poisonous lead based solder. Uneven and unreliable soldering at that. Lids were also of varying thickness and can openers were nonexistent. Soldiers used their bayonets or knives to open those horrid cans. This better way is also so bloody simple, i cant belive it took decades to think it up.

Finally a simple video with a simple good explanation that wasn't too complicated for Einstein to understand like every other video I tried to find about this

Good with one very critical omission. The finished seam is necessarily airtight, which is why all food, beverage, and chemical cans have a small amount of sealing compound.

Thank you for the video! EDIT: What is this channel lol. There is intro music and an outro, feels like a normal YT video, but it's the only video on this channel. My guess would be that this entire channel, including the singular video, was a university-project, if so, hope you guys got the best grade possible, you earned it!

Is it just crush-sealed then? No welding involved? is it the same process for the bottom of the can?
@craigleadley2472
@craigleadley2472 Жыл бұрын
That's right - its a purely mechanical process. There is also a lining compound in the can end which spreads to fill up the space in a correctly formed seam. For 3 piece cans (made with a body and 2 ends) the process is the same for both ends. Two piece cans are manufactured with different method.

Anyone know how the safety can openers, that undo the seal to give you a smooth, non sharp, lid that fits back perfectly, work? How do they undo the seal?

how does it do it all the way around? How is the vacuum made????????????????
@adashofscience1433
@adashofscience1433 5 жыл бұрын
The can is spinning during this process, allowing it to be sealed all the way around. There are a few ways to make a vacuum. One simple method uses steam. The can is sealed when the space above the food is full of steam. As the can cools down, the steam condenses into water, but since the can is sealed there is no air to replace the steam. This creates a vacuum. When home canning, you can tell this occurs when the lid button pops down.
