This is one of the most detailed videos you'll find on the price of food in Mexico compared to Canada. Just to let you know, 'Chedrahui' is one of the most expensive of all the Grocery Stores in Mexico (Only second to the prices of fabulous 'City Market') . Their prices are usually 30% to 40% higher than any similar store. Now, if you compare the prices with the 'Mercados' (Farmer Markets) they are more than double. Most people shop in the popular Mercados, not only because food is less expensive, but because its fresher, mostly organic, and ny far more flavorful. Next time you're around one, try it, you'll gladly be surprised to taste the difference. Cheers

That actually seems expensive. I think it depends on which store you go to as well. Aldi would be cheaper.

Thanks for the time and effort you put into this. My wife and I live almost FT now in Manzanillo MX high on hill with spectacular unobstructed views of the bay (ocean behind us). I bought our place in 2005 and completely renovated and expanded it over the years. We retired a few years ago and have PR here. We do shop around but our go-to place for groceries is La Comer, a high-end supermarket (part of a chain) that was completely renovated 2 years ago. It has the look of a Whole Foods but with an even greater variety. My wife must eat gluten free and Comer has an extensive, well-stocked selection of gluten free items. I keep grocery receipts and in general I would agree with your Mexican prices, but we are probably spending 20-25% more than you per person as we buy mostly high-end items, many imported and gluten free. We also have annual membership at the Las Hadas golf and tennis club. I can't say enough good things about the area. Mostly Mexican families and US/CAN retirees here. IMO, eating at high end restaurants here is quite expensive, but still about a 1/4 less than US/CAN in major cities. We're in a gated community with now six high-quality restaurants and a sports-bar right at our marina adjacent to the Las Hadas hotel. Cuisine includes classic Mexican regional dishes, Asian fusion dishes, a Sushi bar, traditional Italian, etc. Just a guess but eating out at high-end places like this are up about 1/3 in two years. Last month at the Asian fusion restaurant, a multi-course 2+ hour meal, including multiple shots of Mezcal and "espresso doubles", plus exquisite deserts for three people was $186 USD (incl. 20% tip). The food and service was exceptional and we were seated outside in near perfect evening weather. I'm guessing you might pay $300+ in a US major city.

I always keep a 6 months preps from La Comer from my online shopping and home delivery in Queretaro. I did the same with PeaPod home delivery and Walmarts.

Good afternoon I shop by the month a case of eggs in Florida is $20 that about 60 eggs. Coffee is roughly $20 a pound and going up. I don't buy soft drinks I love tea and hot chocolate. Buying food has turned into a math game. It's the total quality of life and how much stress you want to deal with that makes the difference.

I visited my Family in Monterrey a year ago, the HEB's are very expensive. Same as in the US. EXCEPT in large metropolitan US areas. Whereas in rural Mexico "el rancho" it's dirt cheap. The trade off is availability of products. You get what you get. However, what I loved was the produce man comes by on Sundays. Propane guy, every other day. And so forth. Gas(Petrol) was around $4.50 US and it DOES NOT FLUCTUATE. And of course in the larger cities they are gas stations everywhere vs in el rancho, 15 minutes away. I'd rather live in el rancho because of the pace of life and cost of living. Plus my aunt's and cousins always cook for me. Oh, and renting a house in el rancho is about 800 - 1000 MXN. Utilities not included. Yeah, that cheap. In Monterrey, renting a really nice house, $5,000 MXN.

Another thing to consider that was not mentioned is sales tax is included in the price in Mexico (when applicable) and in Canada/US is added to the display price. Also, I noticed the things that are cheaper in Canada/US are just barely cheaper and the items that are cheaper in Mexico were a lot cheaper, like half the price to 1/3rd cheaper.

In the past 2 weeks eggs, mayo, ketchup, pork, ice cream and cheese have all come down in Price in NS, Canada, finally. Great videos.

Great info. I think if you want to eat like a Canadian or American it won’t be much cheaper because those foods are imported. Eating like a Mexican and staying away from big stores like heb and Comer saves money. I shop mostly at Mercado La Cruz or Mercado Tepe in Queretaro and it’s cheaper all around. I love Fresco in Milleno but it’s expensive. Great video thanks.

It depends on what you like to eat and drink, like the USA. I always keep a six months stockup, and I use La Comer in Queretaro for home delivery, and I tip most generously to non beggars.

That looks like an upscale market, i tend to shop in the open markets for fruits & vegtibles and oddball stuff, for meats local "carniceria's" fish market for fish or go down to the beach when the boats come in... There are so many marvelous ways to save money on shopping and het everything fresh!

where I am in Canada, just a couple of things I buy...Butter, 8.99....eggs, 4.15 doz. Milk 5.25 2 liter. cheese 7.99 for 450 gram, D'Italiano - Thick Sliced Bread - Original, 675 Gram, 4.79..Butterball - Bacon Style Turkey Slices, 375 Gram 7.00

Bueno en los centros comerciales las frutas y verduras son más caras q en los mercados locales al igual q el pollo es más barato en los mercados locales pero si estás en un destino donde hace mucho calor siempre compra las carnes en el supermercado por q la cadena de frío es más confiable

I've noticed the huge increase in price when it comes to frozen berries for smoothies. Bread is only cheaper in Mexico if you buy a Mexican brand. Which I don't like. I buy the imported bread, it's expensive.

Most berries are imported so they are expensive and face higher inflation due to the cost in the country they come from (largely USA)

The biggest take away for me as a Canadian is how much Canada has become more like Mexico (if Mexicans can actually afford those prices, which I assume they can).

if comparing exactly same food items with US or Canada, most probably those food are not made in Mexico and have to be imported into Mexico for the expats community, those are more expensive than US/Canada, you can find some local made alternative to each one, and can save from there?

It is Way More Expensive for our groceries here in Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA. My husband was born in 1963 & we are making Extra Weekly Mortgage Payments on top of our regular mortgage payments to be Mortgage Free before he retires in a few years. Our Grandparents & Parents had a much higher standard of living here in Alberta with no mortgage payments - they paid off their houses easily back in the 1940s-1970s. We are in a Condo & it will take every extra penny to get debt free from Car Loan & Mortgage! 😮

Oh sure, US where I'm at is just horrible right now, We found out corporations are just raising the food costs for no reason every week, And vendors are more expensive than restaurants.. But buffets are expensive now in Vegas, Because they have removed all the cheap ones..and kept the expensive ones . Groceries is like I said used to be cheaper 10 years ago but now prices are just surging i dont like it at all.. I'm actually planning moving to Mexico next year and very exciting to know what their prices are ..😊

Russet Potatoes 5 lb in San Antonio Tx were about $2.50 about the time you made this video and tomato’s were about under a dollar for a lb. Lettuce a lil over $1.00 about $1.25. Bananas are about 60 cents a lb. Canadian prices are higher than this. 4.4 pounds equals 2 kilograms. Mexican prices are therefore about the same not much difference.

I’m Mexican living in California, yes, Mexico is definitely cheaper than where I live. I just came back from vacationing in Oaxaca. Planning to retire there, it’s a beautiful place!

Well, you went to a Premium store... Selecto Chedraui is expensive, if you go to a Soriana or normal Chedraui you would be spending a lot less.

Good to know, I think I mentioned in the video that I could have saved more if I had shopped around or gone to the markets. I’ve started comparing the prices from shop to shop but haven’t seen a big difference between them. Maybe the “selecto” is that they offer more selection and their regular items are the same price. I did see a difference between Chedraui and H-E-B and City Market. Last year I was mostly shopping at a Comer and the local markets.

Nice comparison video! A dozen eggs are $4.59 in Michigan, can get Kraft mac & cheese on sale for $1 a box, $1.99 for a head of lettuce, Tide $12.99 for 92 ounces.

Interesting, but I’m not that surprised in the end. Grocery prices are quite high these days here in Canada - like the lettuce which is outrageous. I’m sure it is much fresher in Mexico as well. I would be interested to see some Farmer’s market shopping for sure.

Fruit definitely, basically anything that gets shipped green to Canada has less flavour there compared to Mexico. I also think the eggs, chicken and beef have more flavour but they are more difficult to compare

I'm so envious. You don't know what expensive living is until you live in Australia, especially Tasmania where most stuff is shipped to by ferry. What about eating out? It's interesting that after watching your videos on Mexico, I'm seriously considering visiting there one day and perhaps my budget will stretch to a couple of months 🤞.

Eating out here is great. I mean I can stop at a taco place and get a few tacos for less than $5. Eating at a really nice restaurant will range in price depending on the place and food but a great meal is usually only $25-30 CAD (plus drinks). Ordering a pizza is around $10. Maybe I’ll do a video about some of the costs to eat out

Inflation is high in the USA and so the Government is going to have to raise Minimum Wage to get the same amount of food and fuel ⛽ . It seems every Ten Years the US Government is pressured to raise Minimum Wage to Counter the increasing Inflation Rate that the US Economy currently faces. What worries me is Job Satisfaction and the Age Gap Crisis in America. It seems like nobody is genuinely Happy in America anymore and the Birthrate is Low because nobody wants to have babies anymore which I believe is a serious problem of every First World Country due to the Economic stress of living Paycheck to Paycheck. And there is a tendency of First World Citizens to move to Third World Countries because there money will go further there. First World Countries or MORE expensive to live in than living in Third World Countries.

So you go to a gleaming new, air conditioned, spotless store to compare prices? Really? How about going to the main market there where farmers sell their stuff direct? How about showing what stuff is really cheap in Mexico? Like oranges, green cabbage and any local fruits/vegetables? They grow so much there. When I was there food costs are about 10% of Canada. Also your prices in Canada are way too high. We all buy stuff on sale. Tomatoes have been $1.00 - $1.50/lb or about $3.30/kg for quite a while. You look very healthy for a middle aged guy so I wonder why you are showing so much processed, garbage food in this video? Where are the fresh corn tortillas? Is that not the main food there? That's 100% unrefined, a great choice for complex carbs. At least show the healthy stuff first, then the junk for people that don't know any better.
