In this video we look into the Chinese stock market which has massively underperformed the US market over the past decade. This is despite the fact that China's economy has tripled in the same time. There are a few fundamental reasons for this underperformance including the country's capital controls, insider trading, and lack of technology IPOs.

@@samsonsoturian6013 not really. If companies are thriving without soaking up cash from retail investors via dilution then they have to learn to be responsible with their spending. You will never see a nikola in China. 1:05 "down 40% is very selective" given that 2007 was an outlier. You then go on to question why the stockmarket is down if the economy went up 3X. Well if you look from a longer time frame (e.g. late 90s or early 2000s) the rise in the stockmarket is more alligned with the economy. So it seems that the way more plausible explanation is, that valuations in 2007 were through the roof for chinese stocks.

If Chinese equity market doesn't correlate to its GDP growth... then the same can be said about US equity market to its GDP as well. One didn't grow while the other grew too much. Bubbles on both end, with infinite printing press and debt borrowing.

For this video I kind of disagree on one thing although I enjoyed your videos. Even for a mature market like US, don't you think the rich and powerful still have the upper hand? You agree that the US government have control over the wealthy and powerful that exploited the common citizens? And if the S&P 500 growth reflect economy growth, then why the infrastructure in US is dilapidated, medical cost is getting pricier and the poor still remained poor? This is just illusionary wealth or it is actually can be enjoy by the common citizens or just the top 5% elites?
@isambo400
@isambo400 2 жыл бұрын
The problem is there has not been any way to preserve wealth besides stocks, so even though it is corrupt and controlled, the rich and powerful still need it to be stable. If it wasn’t stable they would lose control. It was the only game in town, Bitcoin has changed that but most people don’t realize it

The Federal Reserve does nothing but transfer wealth from poor and middle class Americans to the wealthiest through inflation. The wealthy keep their money in stocks which are given cheap new money created by the Federal Reserve, which trickles down to the lower classes causing higher costs for goods.

But those living in the west and act surprised about how china is in such a dominant position, it's because everything was outsourced to an autocratic country ,which hid information, statistics and so much other data from these western investors and they were cool with it. It will backfire in the near future, unless the west once again turns a blind eye.
