Thank you. I'm a bass player and all of this makes complete sense because it's just a grid in 4ths. Makes using the Push so easy!

Helpful video thanks, chromatic mode is slowly soaking in for me. TIP: Ableton has a chord analyser in MAX Live called MIDI Monitor.

What a great controller for deepening music theory knowledge. The only thing I miss - is showing the name of the chord I've pressed. Are there any options for that?

Thanks this is a great video. Just got my ableton push 2 last week and under estimated how much just learning the to play piano on this, its so much fun! Do you have any suggestion on a vst that can display the piano roll horizontal like you video in real-time in ableton? It makes it easier learning the theory.

Sorry for the delay! I've used an app called VMPK and made a video about it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNB6Zs6ZvpeVdJc.html it wasn't easy to setup. I want to try another app (paid one) called ChordieApp because it looks nicer but I don't know how easy it is to setup.

I have a midi keyboard and Maschine mk3 but I could get push 2 + Ableton live 10 suite for only 600€. I was wondering that should I learn how to play the midi keyboard or push 2 if I want to express myself musically? Is there any benefits to learning how to play with pads instead of keys (and vice versa)? I like how I can improvise and create songs with Maschine mk3 but I find the 16 pads limiting, when with push2 I could visualize and play higher octaves easier or should I just focus on learning the midi keyboard better?

That's a though question. Learning push made me better on the piano/keyboard, because when I use Push in key mode I can translate it and visualize that scale into the keyboard. It takes a moment to check which notes correspond to which. If you spend hours in the same song, you get used to it, there's just a learning curve. If you already like the 16 pads layout you can try to get used to the current scale on the keyboard as well. It's just a suggestion. I never tried the Maschine so I can't help much with deciding which is better. Just a thought, this is very personal and everyone's journey is different.

@@WasabiNoise Thank you for answering. I might just pick the push 2 and live 10 combo, because they can be used to create full songs and perform live :)

If I may ask, is there a reason you don't use your thumb using chromatic mode? Seeing that you use your left hand, that would make it one column per finger if your start from the bottom left and go up the scale using the 5 first pads per row.

I feel it weird to use the thumb to play inside the same row but that’s just me. There’s no right or wrong. In the piano/keyboard I’m used to have the thumb lower because each key has more length. Again, this is just my experience with the Push, I’m sure there are other ways. So it’s a very interesting question!
