First! Sweetwater has been upping the game lately in regards to their education of consumers. I love how you guys don't treat the customer like morons and instead of claiming that something sounds or acts the way it does because of "magic", you empower the customer to make a proper informed decision regarding a piece of gear. Thanks, guys!

So great to see inside your operation!! 2023 will see the beginning of production, installing the flats of input and output transformers I bought from Cinemag back in 2011! They play an integral part in the designs of my tube mic preamps and mixers!

Wow, the past is the future now. I remember when solid state got popular and "tramsformerless design" was a selling point.

Hey Sweetwater, do more videos like this! Would love to see the Pultec facility or even their transformer company! Love these American made companies doing old units!

They won't show it because people would find out they are overpaying for this units. From having a look inside eqp-1a i can tell you this are well made point to point circuits, material is pretty good, transformer likely made in their factory/shop because they cost a lot less this way. It takes a few hours to make such unit in series, complete material with chasis maybe costs 400-600$ if that much. Getting original sound requires original transformers and toroidal inductor, so for series production the only manufacturer making correct output is Cinemag CM-S217D, input and interstage are also made by them and probably others because they are not as complicated as output. Another company makes inductors if Cinemag doesn't. Doing in like original costs more than 500$ in transformers, then a few hundred for the rest so final product would cost more like 9000$ if they sell current 1ch eq for 5300$ :) Can't believe some are willing to pay so much even if i'm wrong about transformers and inductor and they use perfect copies or originals... I haven't compared Pulse copy to original but differences are there for sure.

God bless the folks that do highly repetitive jobs. I did that for a while and you literally watch the second hand on the clock to start a break. When I have a rough day as an electrician, I think about the folks still there and I don't complain a bit.

Wow, at 3:30, the keyboard player plays the main theme of the Bartok Violin Concerto! In cheese ball fashion! What is even weirder, is I did this 20 years ago. Did these Muzak musicians hear my neo-Muzak masterpiece??? ;)

I ordered a couple 10-C mic input transformers for a couple preamps I built from Roberts reel to reel amps and they sound fantastic! If there’s anyone making better sounding transformers for the same price, it would surprise me. They’re warm but not muddy. Very clean and clear. However, you don’t use a tube mic pre if you want a sterile sound, and these transformers work great with them.

Thank you SW! Quick question 2:27 no nails then 2:36 nails. Did I have a stroke? I only noticed because when I saw the nails, I thought to myself, "She's pretty darn amazing to do that handy work with those nails!" so I rewound (no pun intended) the video and my world was ripped apart - cheers!

With cheapest transformer Cinemag makes for this type, inferior capsule and body made in China. This is far from real U87 although good for beginner home studios.

Very interesting. It's interesting seeing the quality, time and craftmanship put into products compared to the sloppy junk components we get from Chinese manufacturers. One comment - please stop with the slow out-of-focus shots, it's annoying wanting to see what is being talked about, but the cameraman is busy doing an artistic shot out of focus with a 5-second slow pull into focus. Might be good for music videos, but it's lousy for technical documentaries like this. There are better ways to add movement to a static shot that don't completely obscure what is being shown.

David, please sort out production and shipping for orders like you used to before covid. People can't wait for months to get replies like "it will be shipped next week" when they are just let down for a few months more. After all, not WA, but diy scene and high end manufacturers made your name. Beside, WA along similar companies are using lower grade magnetics you are making. This makes more money but doesn't require much effort in developing high quality products.
