Join me on a journey through nostalgic British Children's TV! Focusing on shows using puppetry, stop motion and 2D animation.
These are the shows, as a 28 year old, that I remember seeing when I was growing up, and it is still all very special to me.
Examples include: Tots TV, The Tweenies, Kipper, Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, Teletubbies, Roger and the Rottentrolls and more! I know I most likely missed out a few, so if you notice any I missed, please let me know in the comments :)
I hope you either feel lots of nostalgia or learn something new about the world of Children's TV!

I cannot believe you have so few followers. I would subscribe to watch you talk about delightful British children's shows series by series because you have such a calm voice! We had a lot of these shows broadcast in Canada as well. Thank you for introducing me to the likes of Huxley Pig and The Herbs however. Hope to see more from you in the future!

It never fails to amaze me how few of these shows were ever brought over to the US. Networks spent tons of money localizing both Japanese and French productions when I was a kid, but getting shows that were already in English never occurred to them. Also, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one frustrated with the CGI reboots of classic children's shows. Most of the time, it takes so much character out of the original aesthetic.

Technically the Northern US states (e.g. Michigan, Ohio and New York) got Canadian TV. So in a way they did get it, just not nationwide.

When I moved to Canada with my parents, I have seen television channels such as TVO Kids, Kids' CBC and Treehouse. The programmes that you have showed and mentioned were airing in those channels that I have mentioned. I, too, miss days when I watch television ever since I was young. If I can find the time to do it, I would gladly do it in a heartbeat.

I’m an American here, and I enjoyed watching a lot of these shows. Heck, some of them goes as far back to when I used to watch them on PBS Kids Sprout or KZfaq as a kid, and to this day, I still enjoyed them. Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, Noddy, Kipper, Rubbadubbers, Little Robots, Charlie Chalk, Sooty, Danger Mouse, Angelina Ballerina, The Wombles, Bill & Ben, etc. Of course, it’s not like I’m gonna be gatekept by anyone from watching these shows just because some of them never aired on US TV.

I'm American, but I have always adored British cartoons. I was so obsessed with Bob The Builder as a kid that every time I went to Chuck E Cheese, I HAD to ride the Scoop-themed ride that played the BTB theme song. I also had a lot of Thomas stuff. Fireman Sam and Postman Pat were on Sprout and Qubo respectively, but I also liked watching them. I have recently discovered Engie Benjy, and I have become completely obsessed with the show! Benjy himself has such a cool design and I love how he's basically a machine doctor [kinda accurate to how mechanics are]. There's a lot of fun wit and even some sarcastic moments in the show, courtesy of Cosgrove Hall, and I don't know why there wasn't even an effort to bring Engie Benjy to America. Then again, they would probably ruin it, especially if Mattel got their hands on the franchise. I'm still mad over the Bob The Builder, Fireman Sam, and Thomas [All Engines Go] reboots, they are dumbed down and not as fun as the original shows.

I really hope you can do an follow up video talking about kids' TV from other countries, because those countries have a lot of great kids shows that I think are truly different to what the states have. (one of my personal favorites being an series of 5 second bumps that played during ad breaks on public tv channels in the Netherlands featuring an stop motion lion character named "Loeki De Leeuw".)

Yes, I would love to do a follow up video like that! Even though I don't have a lot of experience with them, I would love to research shows that kids grew up with in other countries :) Loeki De Leeuw looks really cool- I love the style so I'll look into it more for sure! Thank you for sharing :)

Good to see so many of these, there are so many I watched regularly. Woahhh I can't remember a Funny Bones episode with ghosts, the lore of that show is more expansive than I thought, and I already thought it was pretty expansive. The head from art attack is the most scared I've been of anything- I literally just mentioned the exact same point in an Inside No. 9 analysis that I only uploaded about 2 days ago- wonder if the algoritihim brought me here because of that coincidence. I vividly remember Titch and the theme song with his lil' jigsaw trike. The Theme tune of the riddlers is....susprisingly dark and dramatic for a show about some puppets cheerfully loitering in a garden. GIVE YOURSELF A SHINY. EL NOMBRE can't be long before he gets a darker edgier reboot, surely. Same with yo ho ahoy. Hotch Potch House is one I like a lot that's so rarely discussed now. P.s my brother looked uncannily like a boobah as a baby, but he was born prior to the series- it's a shame he didn't copyright the look.

I feel like a lot of these shows were very good at telling children important lessons and I guess “fables”. Me and my brother grew up watching a lot of VHS tapes of these shows and I feel like we have a good moral compass because of the stories we learnt in the shows. It’s such a shame that children’s tv is just CGI and totally disposable content now. The whole art form of puppetry and 2d animation is almost completely lost now in kids tv, replaced with easy to digest mindless content not dissimilar to TikTok videos. It was nice having a walk down memory lane and I’m really glad I got recommended this video!

The one I remember the most but can't find anywhere is a show that featured a pink telephone (or fridge?) that was as big as the human characters. They used to always hang around in the same room and honestly, it was fairly similar to dhmis. When I first watched dhmis I thought it was parodying that exact show
