He should have just stayed done! He thinks he is way more important than the business he professes to love. As an AEW guy I can honestly say he’s not helping Wrestling! And not helping AEW. His comeback had EVERYONE cheering now about 30% or less cheer and the boo’s are overwhelming. Tony Khan made the mistake of thinking Punk was about something other than Punk.

I was the biggest Punk fan there was, but nobody can deny how calculated his moves and intentions have become. In the middle of serving his first suspension, for him to go to RAW and make amends with HHH and other talents was ONLY him protecting his paydays. He wanted leverage and a backup plan since his ego and attitude got him suspended. When he returned he talked about working with the “young talent”, but has carried himself as cocky and condescending as possible. He’s become the spoiled, entitled, politicking entertainer he’s always railed against. When he returned it was about how much he loved the wrestling business and since he’s buried and rundown talents, established and originals, that’s created nothing but drama and division. As is, it’s fair to say Punk has become a bigger hinderance to the business than advocate. He’s everything that he claims he despises.

At the time Punk walked away from millions of dollars from WWE, for very legitimate reasons (medical malpractice), and was deciding to take on a dangerous dream. There was enough merit there to be a respectable pursuit. However, in hindsight and in light of his more recent transparent behaviors, it strips away the benefit of doubt. You’re NOT wrong, one bit, about your take. Only difference between seeing it now vs then was he lost that extra consideration that fandom buys you. Again, not saying it was justified, because your point is fair and reasonable.

Part of me thinks this was all premeditated, Punk goes back to wrestling sees how much pop he is getting and then gets approached by HHH with a nicer deal on a bigger stage and then immediately just starts beef and gets himself fired while making the WWE's competition lose face. To answer your closing question: I believe videos like this that don't give the full details make it look like he ruined his career when it was the Buck-a-roos and Kenny, Hangman going into business for himself, and a slew of immaturity and T.K. not knowing how to run a wrestling company.
