The football manager is undoubtedly football's main man. The likes of Klopp, Guardiola, Ancelotti, Mourinho and Flick. But what do coaches really do during the 90 minutes when players get things done on the pitch? How can they reach their players in a noisy 80k seater? Can coaches really influence the game during the run of play? Or do they just have the best seats in the house? Let's find out...

@@infomotion7 how is considered mediocre a manager that has taken Everton to a miracolous 10th place in the epl? The same team that would go on risking two seasons in a row to get relegated to the championship? Lol c'mon

During the lockdown period with no fans is when I knew Arteta's football IQ was off the charts, his instructions in each play were ridiculous, he was always seeing the play before any of his players

The impact of managers takes place beyond the duration of a single game: the observation that a manager does during a game can help him make changes to the team that will impact it positively in future games.

Antonio Conte is a total passenger. An amgry flamboyant passenger. Someone needs to show him change of formatioms, tactics and player rotation

I think he knows about those things. He wouldn’t be a football manager if he was just a passenger, let alone have won 4 scudetti and a premier league. It was also a change of formation that turned things around in that season Chelsea won the league under him.

In ideal situation if a coach had planned the game and players knows what to do as a whole then coach doesn't need to be on sideline (in ideal situation)

I would asssume that the mangers can do their part the main characters and the ones doing the cooking are the players, specially midfielders, of creative capcities. They are reading the game, the game needs playing and it needs flow , and expression of it, you can , practice on something, and maximize your strength know what your strengths are, if you have a full back or winger forinstance and a good center mid that moves the ball well, and can find that winger for instance, but you also need a lot of low and expression, and flowing freely when you play, the main characters are the players fo rusre, manager can work on tactics and all of that and ofefensive style and i think the best maangaers have an offesnsive style, and they want to work with the best players to let them cook, and attack, the soul, of the game is still, the ginga, and the offensive style, the creativity, the spark, the competition, the technical feeel for the ball, the through ball, having fun, and taking shot from long distance and playing to win and competing, and having fun and being technically better and more slick than the opponent. The soul of the game is on the pitch, and letting things flow and players express their skills and creativity feel for theball touch and attacking style, and flowing freely, and having fun, we are worth it :) and thtas what the game is about for me. Having fun, trying to be better attack create chances and win. Were worth it. not to be looking at the manager every 30 seconds but to flow, have fun, be creative offensive feel the ball well, have better stechnical skills than the opponent create chances, use your technical attributes flowing ahaving fun having a blast and winning.
