Coal is a natural resource that has had a massive and profound impact on the development of our society. We dig it out of the ground in its black or gray state, but how did coal form? It took dead plants, heat and pressure, and millions of years

you missed one key component. Coal is only formed when it is not decomposed, yes. But most of the coal on earth is actually formed about 300 million years ago. At a time when trees just began to grow all over the earth, and for many many years bacteria and fungi just couldn't eat at the wood in these trees because it was such a tough and novelty material. Hence for a LONG time, all that wood just laid around and piled up even after dying for thousands of years. Of course eventually, bacteria and fungi unlocked the evolution needed to eat dead trees, coal no longer formed naturally anymore, or at least, very little of it

This is true, although I think you downplay the role of stagnant water with no available oxygen. In these conditions the organic material can’t break down regardless of if microorganisms have the capacity to do so.

Perfectly explains WHY formations are located, where the coal bed is. My bet is it happens like oil. Supersonic wind shreds EVERYTHING and blows it like a leaf blower piling leaves here and there. Then, miles high water covers it, leaving unimaginable amounts of mud.....then, wait.

So, can plastic also turn into natural coal

There was no oxygen in the water 300 million years ago? How do scientists know this?

You seen to have missed the most important point that this ONLY occurred millions of years ago. This process isn't happening today and no new coal is being formed. It happened back at a time when plants were made from different amino acids and there weren't any bacterial to break the plants down. Nowadays they would be rotted away long before they could be preserved underground and turned to coal.

Oh and the Antartica etc all have vegetation under them from the one ice age ( yes mini ice ages occurred,after flood) but the only way for an ice age is for the oceans to warm up, Bible says all the volcanos went off at once= warm ocean gases and ash from volcanos going off for a year = cold atmosphere because limited sun, plus all the gases leaking as the coal formed very quickly, Subscribe to Creation Research channel and do a months study, you might be on the way to discovering the truth, !!!

this is not true coal can and will form today, tomorrow, and long after humans are dead. It has to do with environmental reasons as well as biological one. Coal is 90% pre triassic but you can have coal from the Mesozoic and current periods.

It surprises me that peat is not as prolific as coal is given how it’s basically the starting point of coal.
@RealCadde
@RealCadde 2 жыл бұрын
Peat is still pretty abundant. But you don't generally find peat too far down in the ground, as it would have started becoming coal by then. Coal you will find far down as it's a more stable form.

If coal comes from dead plants and animals. How is there coals mines in mountains?
@Zabacleaning
@Zabacleaning 11 ай бұрын
Those mountains used to be flat and coal is super old. Over time that land got pushed up, which is what formed the mountain

So if we find a large coal deposit, is it likely that it was a prehistoric forest?

The oldest coal beds were formed when trees did not decay because there was not yet any fungus on earth. The forest floor was more than hundred feet deep.
