boulderarms I understand what you mean. I wouldn’t consider my family rich necessarily especially compared to the girl in the video, but I’m definitely privileged financially and was confronted by that fact throughout high school where my school was located in a district where around 70% of students were below the poverty line I believe. It was a really jarring experience to be directly confronted by my privilege every day and I think it would help most financially fortunate people to have to go through a similar experience. Volunteering also helps but unless it’s a full time volunteering opportunity like Americorps I don’t think it gives the same perspective. Having said that, all this happened while I was underage and with my parents I could have just as easily ended up in a school in a more wealthy area and never gotten that perspective and become somewhat of a toned down version of this woman. She seems to have gone straight from high school to college, and her parents forced that on her, I think it’s largely their fault for not letting her have to struggle with the real world for a bit and gain some perspective. She seems to not know how fickle an acting career really is, so I think letting her go out and try it for herself offering only limited assistance while she starts off would have done a world of good for her. As it is now, I can’t really blame her for not having perspective because she hasn’t been given much of a chance to gain any

very controversial topic. But here is my take on it. I think everyone should always be grateful for what they have if they are privileged but that doesn't mean you have to be ashamed of it and embarrassed because someone else had it harder. I think it has to do with how you grow up than smarts or being spoiled. You need good examples and to practice earning things as a child and young adult so that it's easier to ignore the instant gratification. Some people are very smart, but can't control their compulsions, and then what's so sad is that they eventually hit rock bottom and can't escape the life that they built.

In her defense, it sounds like she didn’t want to go to college, so it’s technically her parents putting her in that debt (which might explain their willingness to pay for everything else). It does strike me as slightly frustrating that a parent would consider their child going into tens of thousands of dollars in debt to be “non-negotiable”. When it comes to student debt, so often it’s the blind leading the blind.

It’s fine to be wealthy and use that wealth to provide a comfortable life for your family, but PLEASE teach your kids how privileged they are and not to be ignorant and tone deaf towards people who are less fortunate. Also, a lot of people are coming after the girl in the white shirt because of how privileged she is, but many of you fail to realize that a lot of you live in some of the wealthiest countries in the world. Just the fact that you even have access to food banks and post secondary education is an incredible privilege when looked at globally.

When I heard that all I could think about was the time that it was a weekend and the buses weren't running it would cost more to take a lift down to the grocery store because the grocery store was like 7 miles away from campus and I was so hungry that I bought a pizza with coupons and I think it came out to maybe $17 with the tip and I was just beating myself up all week about spending that much money on just one thing that I ended up lasting about a week because it was a pretty big pizza and I do double coupons but I was so upset that I nearly spent my entire weeks budget which is $20 on one meal even though I hadn't spent any money the week before. That's the reality that I think most people who live in poverty have where you think about every single thing that you buy everything that you spend because it all adds up the end of the month I've pushed because it all adds up the end of the month I've pushed back getting medications and going to the doctor before just because I was so scared of how much it was going to cost and that if I wasn't really sick I was just feeling crummy I would have spent so much to the point where I ended up getting mono and strep at the same time and the doctor basically telling me you need to get these medicines or you are going to die and me finally having to bite the bullet and pay the $75 for antibiotics

Does the concept of people valuing different things make sense to you now? Ever heard of value based pricing? Half the people commenting on KZfaq saying how dumb this girl is spend their money on complete shit but can't pull their heads out of their asses to judge their own selves like they can so effortlessly do to others. That’s what I’m doing right now and essentially I get funding for 12 credits of classes each term and $500 dollars for class materials (which I often end up doing over on and have to pay out of pocket). If your worried about money for school or even just want to get your first two years done early I would recommend looking into it. It’s not easy at all but you’ll save a lot of money and time.

There’s quite a few parents out there that don’t do that. So she deserves respect. Also: being a young mum/mom isn’t something negative & shouldn’t be treated as such.

The definition of privilege. Mommy and daddy pay for everything, so she doesn't have to worry about struggling financially. She doesn't have to work to support herself in college because mommy and daddy will pay for everything she needs. Meanwhile, hundreds of students are struggling to pay rent, buy groceries and just fucking survive. I wish my college life was that smooth and worryfree. I had to quit my job during my last semester because it was too much.

Shows that you can spend little money on food and still get fat. Guess thats the U.S for you, huh.I myself use all my money on cheese, flour, tomato sauce and spices and make pizza every other day. Nothing else. It goes without say that most of the money is spent on cheese.
@Honeyhams
@Honeyhams 4 жыл бұрын
@@theeloquenteccentric8321 heya, not to start shit but the reality in most places is that meat and food with more sugar, fat and carbs are easier to keep edible for longer than fresh produce. Which is why you'll often see chubby fat and very fat poor people. Yes some people are fat because their diet is poor but even if they can afford the fresh produce, buying, storing and cooking it in genuinely a luxury. While getting fresh stuff might be cheaper per ounce, there's much more that goes into budgeting meals than just food, it's also time, ability and resources. I'm talking about: - ability to get to the store around childcare, work hours, transport issues (including how much you can carry on the train or bus without hurting yourself) and how far away the store is from your residence - knowing how to cook a meal, having someone to teach you how to make it (even if it's just an online recipe) and having the time to learn how to cook it AND ensuring you don't waste food with mistakes. - having a fridge, being able to afford the electricity to keep the fridge running, having space for food in that fridge if you share accommodation in order to keep fresh food...fresh (instant noodles don't rot!) A common example would be: Let's say you've got a fridge and freezer, but you can only get to the store once or twice a month when your Dad or whatever can take you to the grocery store - he will not pay for any food, you must pay him for gas. You cannot buy much fresh veggies or fruit, it will go bad within a week leaving you with food waste you simply can't afford. So you get frozen vegetables, but you can only store so much of it in the little fridge-freezer combo. You need soap, shampoo and toilet paper, this is an uncommon expense only coming up every 6 to 8 weeks or so, but it still knocks out 1/5th of your budget so now you need to really economise on the food. You'd like to make soup or something you can store in the freezer but you just can't afford that many containers and you don't have enough time to make that amount of food between work shifts and childcare if you want to sleep. It's got to be something everyone in the house can and will eat because you cannot afford food waste or to make a specialised meal for someone as that would take double the amount of money spent on food and you do still have rent, utilities and other living costs. You end up getting ground beef to freeze, canned pasta sauce and dry spaghetti because hey, at least it won't go bad. This turned into a Lot but just be aware that we all have to eat to live and sometimes the "worst" choice is the only choice.
