Having been at both the 2019 and 2023 Prelim finals against the Giants, the contrast in noise at the final siren is indescribable. The crowd was SO one-sided that when it ended with a teeny 1-point margin, just under 100k basically made the stadium rock. Absolutely incredible.

Well said video dude. I think that Collingwood made crucial decisons that a lot of teams like hawthron and richmond have made where they still think their good enough so they get good players in other clubs. Where the next season later, they underperform

Great effort Jesse. I look forward to the next one. Collingwood have done a lot of things right over the last few years but to my mind, the standouts are the appointments of Graham Wright and Craig McRae. We will never know the answer to this but I wonder what would have happened if these appointments were made about six years earlier. I was secretary of our local junior club for many years and we were fortunate to have both the Daicos boys playing for us (up to U13s level) and Graham Wright as one of our committee members. I sort of see our club's involvement whenever I watch our Pies play.

@griteom4538 did you see Harris Andrews’s Prelim? If he plays like that in the GF the Pies comfortably lose. Frampton did what he was asked and the Pies won. Good coaching and well executed by Frampton.

@TMELOMAGPIES1892, if Andrews even played an average game by his standards the Pies probably lose. Also without Frampton holding up the ruck division for 4-6 weeks in the middle of the year we might not have made top four. Richly deserves his premiership medal.

Father son rule really saved Collingwood's arse. Traded their 2021 first round pick which ended up being pick 2, but were still able to get Daicos.

Great video mate. Particularly enjoyed the format in how you delivered the video. A very smooth well read and thought out explanation into the most potent team on the comp to date. Another team I'd say who has arguably the next BEST form of game plan is the Giants. Young, potent and lethal. A combination of these 3 things and you've got the quick moving, extremely damaging and high octane brand of the GWS Giants. To wind back the clock, we can all recall the rise of the Richmond Tigers for their exciting brand of footy. Once they were up and about we saw the Pies following a similar path with their own brand in a never say die brand. Now it's the Giants. The unorthodox and critical strikes that simply take apart any opponents game plan, we're seeing the Giants brand rise now and no doubt we'll see them hit finals again this year. And mire convincingly I might add.

Arguably ONE of the most potent teams and though the scoreboard is where it counts most, it's also in how the game plan unfolds ACROSS the whole ground that makes them potent. Bit of a watch this space call I know, but IMO their gameplan looms as the next best one to come in the AFL's evolution

I agree with the Giants mate. They are following the same path as Collingwood. Turned their season completely around and lost prelims by 1 point. Have a look at they're last few games. +126 Bombers, +32 Blues, +24 Saints, +23 Port and then -1 Pies. And then a few other games leading up to that they managed to beat Adelaide in Adelaide, Geelong at GMHBA, Melbourne in Darwin and they beat Freo by 90 something. So not only can they smash teams but they also travel well

@@stevelozevski8151 alas that is finals footy. Smashing a team in finals dosn't count for squat as it's simply all about the win. You can say they got over the line. But the simplest fact is that all the best teams win when it matters most. Winning by a margin is simply a cherry on top.

I remember the heart break of 2018, just want to put this in prospective...if Collingwood had won in 2018 Buckley would still be coach & Simpson from the eagles would be else where!

With us I feel like getting rid of Buckley and his game plan is the best decision as well as removing Eddie McGuire as president and making the hard calls as well as recruiting players we need like a Mitchell, Bobby Hill, Frampton and McStay as well and don’t forget Markov too

I must admit Collingwood deserved the 2023 premiership and the ride was tough, as a Geelong fan, we had struggled a lot to finally win the 2022 flag, decisions made after that premiership were very questionable, Joel Selwood retiring was a big loss, appointing Dangerfield as captain instead of Stewart, a joke! Collingwood have on ground leaders such as Sidebottom & Pendlebury whom are on the verge of retirement, so enjoy the success, don't know what the future will bring.

Collingwood was NOT the best team, played all their games at the MCG, had umpires on their side and still nearly lost the grand final, Brisbane was 2x better than Collingwood and would have won at literally any other ground in the afl

@billy75chook80, not sure where to start as everything you said was factually incorrect but I’ll go categorically. 1- Didn’t play all their games at the MCG. 2-For every dodgy decision that went the Pies way I can name at least one that went the other ie Bailey’s goal when he smoothed Cox (what happened to the protected zone?), Oleg’s 50 meter penalty , just simply the wrong call etc etc. 3-Brisbane were twice as good. You don’t even believe that yourself they would have easily won if that were the case. 4- Would have won at any other ground. Who cares as it’s irrelevant. Not sure if you’ve noticed over the last 130 years but other than World Wars, major ground redevelopment or pandemic the GF is always played at the MCG so that’s where you win them. I understand you’re angry and frustrated as you don’t like the Pies but you must learn to rationalise the fact that they’re premiers.

We'll see, I just think we lack hard players like collingwood do. That's what i admire about collingwood, al ot of hard noseed players. Maynard, Crisp, Adams ( not anymore), De goey etc just hard, tough players. Who do Essendon have like that? Picked Collingwood’s intention that trade period when the my cleared the decks with overloaded/poor value contracts. Knowing they had a bounty coming in via Father/son & allowing them to target deficiencies (recruiting Mitchell). They’ve now done it with Taylor Adams. Not that these guys are poor players but the money they were earning was not giving them value on the field.

To judge the best teams in the AFL, you need to see who is actually the best team since the AFL has been around. AFL flags are the most valuable with the next most important factor being how recently you won them. The league was extremely compromised during the VFL with corrupt recruiting zones and dubious ways to win flags. Including VFL era statistics heavily favor the big 4 Victorian clubs and hurt every other club today when talking about this topic, especially non Victorian clubs. The best power house clubs, in order are: 1. Hawthorn 2. Geelong 3. West Coast 4. Collingwood 5. Richmond 6. Brisbane Everything after this is up for debate, win's and losses in the AFL era are the next most important factor with: average ladder placement through out the AFL, finals appearances in the AFL era, membership numbers and how well your club is doing financially are all important factors as well for this topic. So i do not agree with Collingwood being the best team in the AFL.

Brisbane were the best team throughout the 2023 season pound for pound. Collingwood had a lot of luck and bit of shit umpiring on their side. Barely beat Melbourne when realistically Melbourne should've won a considerable margin, 37 inside 50s to 69. Fast forward a couple of weeks they absolutely murder GWS in the last 10 minutes, they were getting away with everything, Toby Green and Idun were both missing their heads at the end of the game and lots not forget the other numerous missed frees that only seemed to benefit Collingwood. I mean, it was so bad that they didn't pay an advantage to GWS when they were in controll and attacking into their 50. Anyway, all of that only to win by a point, now I'm not one to blame a loss on the umpires but the umpires definitely lost GWS that match. Now to the grand final, umpiring wasn't too bad and both teams had their moments, but seeing daicos be gifted a free kick 10 metres out from goal for a high tackle, the same of which Collingwood were doing to GWS late in the prelim made me sick and it just proved that the AFL were doing the most to get Collingwood another flag. The biggest club winning it all is good for business after all

Collingwood finished clear on top of the ladder. How could you say Brisbane were the best team when they continuously failed to win at the MCG? Their record there in recent times is horrible. North Melbourne would even beat them there. They didn't deserve to be in the grand final for that reason alone. Only the Gabba saved them. Pity it's not 2020 anymore when grand finals were won there. That ship sailed. To continually be that embarrassing at the MCG is phenomenal and they couldn't even do it for Zorko's 250th. Collingwood dominated general play and if kicked straight it had been a massacre. Anyways seeing Zorko and the so-called brownlow medalist cry afterwards was just as pleasurable as holding up the Cup.
