Pretty much everyone says The Counselor is awful. I tell them who wrote it and they say “who?” Which I actually think is nice because you know they aren’t just going to fanboy about it. It lends some objectivity to the movie

Before i knew who CM was, i watched The Counselor over and over. The speech in the end about choices was another over and over thing. It was in the deleted scenes that i began to believe that this was a movie about aliens. Bodies inhabited by entities from other worlds. ive not heard anyone take this approach but in hearing NCFOM, my theory solidified. i think his work has Calvinism and Armenian ideas existing simultaneously with people inhabited by aliens as the bad guys. Man, i LOVED The Counselor. It's the movie (i believe) that taught me that "right" means 90°. McCarthy is brilliant.

The Unrated Extended Cut of The Counselor is a vastly superior product compared to the theatrical release. I don't know why they decided to cut it down like that. The story needs all the dialogue.

Oh, hello David Foster Wallace. What was your inspiration for Infinite Jest?

I think the film is unintentionally great once everything is recontextualized.

I do wonder if the reference of the idiot in blood meridian was in reference to Dostoyevsky’s prince myshkin and what the judge seeks to do to those most devout souls

i think the big advantage of the author being screenwriter for the film based on the book, is that if Cormac had any new ideas for things he wished he had had in the Blood Meridian book he could have in the screenplay instead! I'm hoping for some of that anyways

They will remain on the website for free as long as SubStack is alive. And if Substack goes down (very unlikely) I will transfer them to my normal website.

Kubrick said it best: Great books make bad movies and bad/mediocre books make good movies. Usually because a mediocre book may be written poorly but has an interesting idea you can build upon. Whereas with a good novel, every word counts, making it somewhat pointless to adapt. I think that’s the issue with Cormac’s screenplays. He’s writing in a way that may be interesting on paper, but not on screen.

What's good, Write Conscious. I have a couple of intellectual poems I would like to share with you. Where could I gain access to your professional email to send you those? If you don't mind me asking, of course. I think you'll see how Cormac McCarthy's work bleeds through mine, so to say. I don't attempt to replicate. I just write. :D P.S ignore my stupid KZfaq name. Thought of it when I was a teenager. Lol.

What's good brotha! Not accepting reading requests right now. Have 600+ comments to respond to and about 1000+ videos to make and a couple hundred more books to read!
