I always felt like there is so much more in the cronje story than what we can actually see. Anyone can sense that there was something wrong behind the scene which we never got to know. And his death in very next year, even more suspicious. Great player, great leader but sad end..

More than that, at least from his quote provided here, he didn't try to make any excuses or portray himself as a victim, and admitted that his love of sport and team was quite simply surpassed by his need for money. Nonetheless I have mixed feelings about the ban and don't know how I would decide if it were up to me. But if maintaing the ban is the right thing to do, I think one thing that grates on people is that there are others who should share his fate and yet go unpunished.

The late Hansie made a Mistake at the peak of his career where one's mind can play tricks with you... He wanted to have a clear Conscience, so he Manned up... but as fate would have it, he paid the Ultimate Price!!! That's the world we live in... so other corrupt cricketers keep their mouths shut and hide in their own shame, hoping with time people with forget everything... and that's what people have done. Today many such cricketers are commentators, guest media speakers, even contested in local elections.... RIP Hansie. Atleast you tried!!!

Honestly speaking, the people who fought in court were actually fighting for their lives. Had they got incriminated and charged, it would definitely bring their demise as it happened with Hansie Cronje and Bob Woolmer and no investigative agencies in the world would ever dare to even question the circumstances of their deaths. It is scary to think of the magnitude of power the people behind the scenes hold and the nexus that goes deep and wide and certainly reaches some of the very heoghts of the echelons of global power.

Watching the video on the day of death of Shane Warne chops back me to early 2000's comment which I also read in a book written by a senior Cricket journalist in Kolkata where Alan Donald is saying "Whenever I go back to the run up with ball in my hand(May be some friction in trouser to keep the polish of the ball),I see the dead soul of Hansie giving direction to me what will I have to do and what field I have to set -So even though he was no longer alive, I still consider him my captain and he always will be"-That's the legacy Cronje created for South African team. But on the world cup semi final day of 1999 Hansie and another legend BOB Woolmer who had another tragic death during 2007 world cup made one blunder which cost SA that they didn't send greatest performer of that world cup Lance Klusenar to bat on early when he was winning match after match. If Lance was sent slightly up on the batting order, so instead of only 15 deliveries he could face 40-50 deliveries and SA would have easily won. Why don't you use your Trump card in a crunch match like that? So even though he was a smart leader with smart coach, they made a mess on this tactic on that particular day. Otherwise SA would have won the world cup and I was whole heartedly cheering for SA at that time. Regarding scandal of Cronje, yes he took money and confessed the truth-other's didn't. Again I am quoting from that book written by that journalist "Why Cronje's greed for money arose and then why his Christian conscience arose later that he told the truth to the world?"-Only he or his God knows. But due to Cronje, others who never told the truth were caught in the bookie rackets including several Pakistani players, from India Muhammed Azharuddin, Ayay Jadeja, from Australia Shane Warne, Mark Waugh and many later. So indeed he gave a right or colorful direction to the game by sacrificing his own life which changed the direction or path of the game in a rightful direction when entire cricketing fraternity was doubtful about the authenticity of the game.

To my knowledge they didn't play to score only a set number of runs or bowl wides it was giving information away on pitch conditions before it was televised. I know that there were cases of where he asked players like Gibbs and i know that was was assumed that Gibbs accepted to only score below 15 in the match he went on to score over 50... I still feel Hansi was bullied into a confession beyond what he did and the public guilt just drove him to wanting a way out which would have been tell the people what they want to hear instead of defending yourself.

Apparently he got an offer to fix a match for money, a dead rubber game in India, and he discussed whether to do it with the whole team. As it was something that one man couldn’t do by himself, it had to be the whole team. So they talked about it and ultimately decided to not do it. That shows that the team knew that it was happening though.

Very sad.One might certainly not understand what a cricketer goes through when he gets involved in match fixing. They are not provided sufficient protection because these bookies really are in contact with the underworld.Best example is of Sharjah where Dawood used to book most of the matches involving India and Pakistan and Pakistan used to win many matches there because of Dawood. Then it led to further match fixing incidents including this incident and not to forget domestic leagues like IPL or PSL or even BPL.It is everywhere.

We fans should stop forgiving everyone and I mean everyone. We should open our eyes and don't see the world blinded. IPL , today's most matches are fixed and we still behaves as if it's "Gentleman's" game. #Stopthis .

Yeah I realised this after Mumbai Indians won their 4th IPL and 2nd consecutive final by a 1 run win . I now decided not to watch IPL(except KKR matches) unless some other other team wins it for 2 years (except CSK and MI) !!!
