Well, since there's not enough pressure to push the bullet out or cycle the feed, it wouldn't eject the casing, so you have to eject it manually. That's where gun safety comes in. If you notice when you fired it didn't sound or feel right as you were shooting, that's your time to stop immediately and check
@stephenjerome7793

I actually can answer that question about the handgun squibs. My dad had one during training with a Glock, either model 22 or 23. .40 S&W, I do not know what brand or load the local Sheriff's Office was issuing out at the time. Barrel was trashed and the frame was damaged, but he walked away completely unharmed. Edit for clarity: When I say the barrel was trashed, it didn't explode. It bulged really badly, and some of the rifling was stripped out. The frame was cracked, and I think the slide got cracked too? Hard to remember, been many years and we don't speak anymore. I do know that it was bad enough that they gave him a new handgun afterwards.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with the commander of a cannon crew from a Civil War re-enactment. He said he preferred the Napoleons because they were made of brass would would tend to split and vent, whereas the iron cannons would tend to just explode. The weapon was quite beautiful, and we got to see a lot of the procedural experience up close (loading, piercing the powder bag, inserting the igniter cord, etc.). I'm also glad that none of the jams I had the one time I went target shooting involved hung bullets (I don't recall ever hearing the term "squib" before today, but I'm not a firearm expert). I remember the Sig Sauer jammed the most frequently (it wasn't hard to clear, but it was annoying), while the Glock didn't jam at all (but it had more recoil and was less slightly less precise). I looked at the barrels of the two guns later, and noticed that the Sig had a tighter fit between the barrel and the round (they were both 9mm). I have no idea what kind of ammunition I was using... whatever my friend brought with him that day, but it was all the same.

I think pistols usually handle squibs a lot better because A, the barrel just isn't long enough to get that gradual explosive pressure build up, and B, pistol powder burns a lot quicker than rifle powder, so you're getting a sharper acceleration out of the bullet (which is kind of necessary considering short barrel = less burn time). Don't get careless though, preventative safety is still best safety! :)

Would love to see, the two bullets merged together - if you're even able to get them out of the remaining barrel... But the Pistol really deserves the Titel of "Most Sturdy Gun of the Day". Absolutely astonishing, that it was still fully functional after the squib. I also hope, that you manage to get your truck back out of the mud. Greetings from Germany.

That 30-06 squib, same result happened to my dad years ago in a 300 Weatherby. But his wasn't from a squib, at some point while walking around a long grass, wheat stock, or something similar got down his barrel. When he fired, similar results. The barrel split and pealed back all the way to the action, opening up like 16in at the end. It now hangs on his wall haha

He more than likely did have a squib. There have been dozens of videos trying to jam a barrel with mud or ice or other natural things, while it theoretically CAN happen... it doesn't in torture tests. I mean, if you watch enough war footage you'll see US troops regularly putting their barrels straight down in the mud/dirt, just to prop them up and hold them. Or sometimes even in reloads. It's really not THAT big of a problem, granted a muzzle break does make a difference there. But still, to split a barrel you have to have something HARD locked in there to cause it
@koreyhayden1368
@koreyhayden1368 Жыл бұрын
@AngryDINGUS 100% was not a squib, there was still a chunk of the straw, about 4in, semi burnt into the lower portion of the barrel. My family have been guides for 80yrs, mY dad that this haopemd to now owns an ammunition company, the entire family is well aware of firearms. He sighted in/confirmed zero, evening before the hunt, no squib...if you fire a squib round, in a rifle for sure, you can ABSOLUTELY tell its a squib I don't care what anyone says. Recoil is nothing compared to a standard round. Anyone who knows anything about firearms, ammo, and shooting can agree to that. The only time a squib round is detrimental is at a firing range with pistols when hearing earpro...with a rifle, you know 100% if it's a squib or not the second you pull the trigger

@thecommissaruk
@thecommissaruk Жыл бұрын
The word Squib refers to a small explosive charge, typically too small to do any damage - they're used in films to pop blood packs as you know, and also make bullet impacts on walls etc. The squib in a firearms context is still a reference to a small explosive charge, i.e. the cartridge was a "squib load" - too small a bang to push the bullet from the barrel. And due to the wonderful world of etymology, the blockage caused by the squib load, becomes a squib!

It's interesting how the front end of the barrel on the shotgun stayed in line with the rear part of the barrel; but held together by steel strands. Thanks Scott. Wait a minute Scott, "hold my slug," could you try shooting through that section of barrel? I saw a Remington 51.380 ACP a few years ago that I was getting ready to buy and it had a bulge in the location of the last third section of the barrel from a squib load. I would have had to make a new barrel however, I didn't buy it and do that because I couldn't readily order a barrel blank with the original rifling pitch with the correct land and groove widths and I couldn't get a barrel maker to custom machine a barrel blank to the original rifling specs..

I purchased a TP9FSX about 3 years ago for about 630 usd and for the price you pay you get a really solid range gun. Besides adding some brass weight for better control my only downside was the stock trigger once I replaced that my spouse loved the gun some much it basically became hers.

This happend to me about 20 years ago. I was training for a n IPSC match in Canada, hand loaded .45 ACP rounds out of a Springfield. I had a malfunction, tapped and racked and had a massive blast from the end of the barrel... Besides the racing heart and needing a new barrel (it did have a considereble bulge in it) all was okay, lesson learned...

Interesting video for sure! My first firearm instructor handed me a damaged 44 magnum revolver which had opened like a flower after making contact with a squib. The squib bullet was stuck right where the bullet enters the barrel. Would love to see that happen on your channel Scott. Also, you gotta do a slap round squib video!

I presume that nothing too special will happen with the shotgun. assuming you are able to load another shell of course, the split up barrel would probably just behave like a really bad, shorter barrel, considering the damage sustained that didn't result in splitting (bending, dents, and all that)

I used to shoot fireworks displays about 20 years ago - hand fired displays (my favorite - you just set them off with a road flare) and electronically fired displays. When you do electronic displays, the igniters are also called “squibs.” One time we had a guy helping us set up a display and he kept calling them “squids.” He said it a bunch of times both as a noun and as a verb: “Hey, we need another box of squids here.” “Did you squid that shell? Make sure to squid those.” Fun times.

Hey Scott, I was wondering how would the shotgun react after this failure if you would cut the barrel just before the bulge out? I know that cutting the barrel is illegal but for science I was wondering if you could and if it would still be firing fine. Hope you could do this in a follow-up video. Thanks Rob.

Great video! Cool to see that Canik survived without an issue, if you had a squib like that you'd probably never even know! I wonder though if the felt recoil would be different from the second bullet impacting the squib?

I had a squib load in a gen4 Glock 19. I was actually firing fairly quick, but the squib was obvious to me; it was more of a muffled thump instead of a bang, and the recoil impulse was weird (kind of like a soft push straight back). The case stovepiped, but I'd have stopped after the weird feel regardless. Dropped the mag, cleared the stovepipe, checked the barrel and yep- a squib! I can definitely see how a newer shootet might screw up if it does actually cycle on a squib, but anyone reasonably well practiced will know something is fucky right away.
