Props to SQ for assisting and providing help to the injured and offering compensation, not sure how other airlines will handle this situation.

Even if the seatbelt light is off, it doesn't mean you should release your seatbelt. The victims learned it the hard way and I hope others who see this can learn about it. Light on means you have to use seatbelt since plane is at the most vulnerable states, usually take-off, landings, or flying through clouds. Light off means you are on the cruising speed which is relatively safe to undo your seatbelt if you want to do something such as stretching or go to toilet. The keyword is "safer". Safer doesn't mean it is safe.

Luckily the plane diverted to BKK instead of KL. Bangkok has much better emergency response and healthcare standards.

I feel sorry for the victims and especially SQ. There will always be pple who refused to put on their seatbelt or let their kids run up and down even when the airline staff advise them. Hope this incident brings some enlightenment to them.

Wouldn't the laser from LiDAR need to reflect or bounce off a surface and return to the airplane in order to form an image of the surroundings? There's no flat surface up in the air for it to reflect off, so how would it make a map of the plane's surroundings?

Its a great episode, hopes this reaches a bigger mass and help ignorance people understand that nature is not in our hands and we have no control or foresight into it. It also highlights how SQ handled this really well even if its behind the scenes. Have seen articles and "news experts" critising SIA the "mere" compensation when its a goodwill gesture.

Can talking point please cover chemicals in clothing, what brands produce 'clean' clothing here? Since the article on SHEIN having toxic levels of chemicals in their clothing, I think most people don't think twice about this topic when shopping for clothes

TL;DR: we're always at the mercy of nature. It's been like that despite the thousands of years of evolution in transport. When you fly, you take the risk. The risk is quite openly removed by media because flying is normalized to be safer. Accidents are always a grim reminder of vigilance. That said, Nature will even take your safety belts away if She wants to.

none of these would have happened if you all belted up unless you needed to go to the toilet or get assistance from crew (then it's bad luck). time and time again do these incidents occur and you learn absolutely nothing from them. just in SIA alone 10 years ago turbulence hit an a380 bound for mumbai and people all said the same thing. belt up when you can. yet no one listens and learns from past mistakes and warnings.

In simple terms just freaking seat belts la. What so hard man? I know it feels shiok and badass to "screw the rules" but think about yourself and your health for a second and understand what best for you.
