Watched the match live at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Though the crowd was 90% for Djokovic, they're totally disrespectful towards Medvedev trying to break his momentum. The referee didn't help much either, but I'm glad the Medvedev won in the end :) Loved his "dead fish" celebration at the end

Dude, I don't know if you're american or not. I respect the history of your country with sport and specially tennis. Great country of sport no questions asked. I understand the passion of the crowd during games but the reactions are just soooo disrespectful. Cheerings are not done properly in the right time, and it just breaks a players game. I'm always pissed at the crowd when I watch US Open. But then at the end of matches, you are just amazing, cheering like crazy, respecting players and so on. It's confusing ahahahah. No offense tho', just my 2 cents.

@Avinash Anand No, it's the conditions coupled with the opponents level. Novak vs Rafa/ AO vs USO Novak 9-0 (AO) vs 3-9 (USO) Rafa 1-4 (AO) vs 4-1 (USO) Why? Slower, low bouncing, heavier night conditions and tennis balls favor Novak's flatter shots and faster, higher bouncing, relatively lighter tennis balls favor Rafa's game (easier topspin though he hits a lot of flat drives on hard). What is Novak's kryptonite at the AO? Big hitters like Wawrinka who beaten him and has had 3 five setters (losing 2) or thiem (who took him to 5, led by 2 sets to 1) who can hit thru him and slower conditions. Nadal took him to 5 by sheer force of will. Contrast that with the USO, Nadal has beaten him in two finals because of faster, higher bouncing conditions and daytime matches. Also Novak gets plenty of support in Australia, so that's a non factor
@z1az285
@z1az285 2 жыл бұрын
@Avinash Anand i know. You said as much but you are wrong about the court CPI's. According to Paul Annacone on tennis channel, Rod laver Arena had a CPI of 37 (i know 42 is the popular figure) but center court was clearly slower. The USO CPI was in the mid 40s (fastest of all the slams). Some outside courts were close to 50 (qualifies as fast). Plus the tennis balls used in the AO are by Dunlop (slower, heavier) while the USO uses lighter balls. Also the final starts at 4 pm (daytime and faster) compared to Melbourne (slower and low bouncing ) night conditions. If Paul Annacone said it, it's good enough for me. The faster conditions, Medvedev's tactics, mentality helped him penetrate Djokovic's defenses and execute his game plan. Even though it was slower in the AO final, his mentality and tactics were absent and Djokovic's serve was on fire. Hence the result.

Yeah I agree with how surprising it was to see the NY crowd cheering him on, but to Daniil... they were not even neutral, they were down right hostile, abusive and disrespectful. It was so sad and hard to watch Daniil's last two service games facing literal booing on his DF and UE. I don't know how he managed to keep it together and pull through. I am so happy for him, I admire him so much. A truly, truly deserved win. What a way to claim your first grand slam title

As a Rafa fan who also loves Roger, huge props and congratulations to a true legend like Mr. Novak Djokovic, who won 3 slams on 3 different surfaces and reached the final of the 4th slam, a true tennistic genius and also a kinda misuderstood person. Then, Daniil Medvedev surely changed tennis history by himself, beating the world #1, who seemed undefeatable, in straight sets, being able to read every single tactic and movement of the Serb genius and depriving him of the calendar year Grand Slam, he is the best of the next gen and a true hardcourt master. In fact, as much as I have lots of respect towards Novak, I feel thankful for Daniil to be able to beat Novak, who even beat my dear Rafa on Roland Garros (Arguably the toughest challenge on tennis). What a great time for tennis fans to be alive!

Funny how people are and how the narrative changes when Novak loses, he’s beloved, we’re compassionate towards him and feel for him. On the flip side when he was winning, the crowd(s) for the most part hated him, media micro analyzes his behavior and out bursts (which he did have 1 hard racket smash in the final). We finally realized how MUCH pressure the man was feeling. It was nice to see how much love New York showed him. I think that’s what touched him the most. Nice video

@@FormulaMeme honestly, no. Medvedev winning against Djokovic wasn't a surprise (they said at AO that Medvedev wpuld have win against Novak + Djokovic and Nadal have lost many times to these younger players), and the fact he won 3 gs this year is not and advantage for him expecially physically + Medvedev knew Djokovic has more pressure and less energy and played his game. That's it. Also Nadal isn't unbeatable on clay expecially against Novak. Maybe it would have been a surprise if Nadal would have lost to Tsitsipas or Zverev for example. Do you really think that Medvedev would have won in straight sets against a fresher Novak and both with same level pressure? I would say no. Meddy knew he had his best chance to win a slam this time and he used it. But Medvedev when things are not going well is not a fighter, we saw in Australia. Djokovic didn't seem himself, you can se on his legs and also on his "behavior", when he's not pumped up there's something wrong. Many things.

@@dusanstanisic7567 I agree 💯. Speaking for myself, I wasn't even a fan of the big 3 when I started watching them. While Rogers game was the most artistic, I loved how Rafa battled him and improved over time. I didn't like Novak's game at first but I also appreciated how much he improved to hold Rafa at bay. Roger in turn had to improve to stay in contention with both. This is something people should appreciate, how hard all three worked to improve and frankly are phenomenal on their respective surfaces. I'm a Rafa fan myself and while I think Novak is the greatest in his generation based on his records but they are all greats in their own way. Each has records the others won't break. Add to that Rafa outshines both in team events like the Olympics or Davis cup for example. Simple as that. Good chatting with you.

I feel like Djokovic was not playing super well this tournament - often losing the first set and having to come back. He was able to get away with it because he was playing weaker opponents but Medvedev was playing well and running really well similar to Nadal at his best. It also seems like the whole golden slam pressure got to him, starting with the Olympic medal. Hopefully we will see Novak win more slams.

No, this was a faster surface and Medvedev's weapons were actually more effective than at AO apart from his mentality and tactics. The only argument against Medvedev that's valid is why did he start cramping? Now if Novak had made it a battle of attrition, yes he could have but let's not forget Medvedev's level of play was super high and TBH he would have lost a set at most on the day. There is a reason why Novak is 9-0 in the AO finals and 3-9 at the USO. Slow vs fast, day vs night. Only Wawrinka has taken him thrice to five sets, winning one. Nadal and theim also took him to five but didn't win. There is a reason.slower low bouncing conditions (AO) vs faster high bouncing conditions (USO) and only thiem and Wawrinka have the consistent power to hit thru him in AO conditions. Nadal can do it in faster but not slower conditions.
