How I wish I could make video with that level of quality... I really don't know how use photoshop to make such beautiful thumbnail, neither how to edit a video like this and for a certain point of view, there wasn't supposed to be anything stoping me to create beautiful scripts too, but somehow i just can't. It feels like it's out of my capabilities. How shameful i feel. I wish there was a course that could actually makes me capable

One of the issues with using "search terms" or "searchable titles" is that people typically won't subscribe after getting the information they're looking for. By transforming a "search topic" into a title that makes them want to know what the video is about, you can get them to watch that video & if it's done well, they're more likely, as you said, to want more & potentially binge your content & subscribe. Great video as always, challenging the status quo with actual data & great information!

Do you recommend doing this for shorts too? I do a lot of shorts and only 30% of them come from the home page, more than 50% comes from the Shorts Shelf where end screens would not be there but I could leave a link in the description.

So good! The other thing worth noting that is insanely successful about your channel is the COMMUNITY you've started amongst everyone watching. Everyone subbed genuinely LOVES you and your content and it makes us do things like binge your channel and comment and vote on polls etc. (I normally don't comment on a lot of channels but with yours, it almost feels like leaving a comment is the SMALLEST thing I can do as a sense of gratitude for all the value you just gave me! and everyone else in the comments are pretty cool too! Love it here.)

I swear Ed, you've gotta be my no. 1 favourite YT coach. And yes, can confirm that videos that cause readers to ask questions do well. My highest CTR vids (12% to 15%) have very "oh my god, what could this possibly be?"-style titles. Of course, I'm still yet to try this but, fingers crossed.

Thanks a lot for this video, the change in strategy from “search” to “homepage” views is something I never considered. I always made “search” video thumbnails and titles. I realize now that 1 video I made in the past was “homepage” oriented and that one indeed also has a lot more clicks like that. Will be trying this strategy out - thanks again! 🙌🏼

I love how your channel is all about growing on youtube, how to get people to click on your videos, how to get longer session times etc. And it actually works because I binge watch your videos, you pop up on my suggested page (that's how I found you btw, just a few days ago), I click on your videos from the browse page. I keep coming back to your channel and watch your videos on repeat and take notes at the same time. What are your thoughts on unlisting your first videos that aren't very good compared to what you're making now? My worry is that people may find them first, and not give my newer videos a chance because of the lower quality. I have only been uploading for a few months, but I try to continuously improve, so I'll probably (and hopefully) feel this way about my current videos a year from now, but my first videos were pretty rough. I kind of treated them like I was just taking the plunge and starting, and then I started to actually learn and improve. (Your channel has helped a lot!)

Hey! I have been thinking about this too over the past few months. After some consideration, I just went ahead and deleted a lot of my old low quality videos. My thinking was that if somebody is recommended one of these lower quality videos and clicks on it, they may be put off by the poor quality and leave the video quickly. In my opinion, I think this would be harmful for my channel overall as it lowers my average retention rate as well as average views per viewer. I could be completely missing the mark, but time shall tell!

I think this is exactly the video I needed. My channel has been struggling with low view counts for a while and I've been wondering why. I thought I knew who I was making videos for but this video made me think: "is it worth hiding old videos that get views but no subscribers and very little interest in my broader channel?" I have a bunch of reviews on here that get a lot of views because of search, but those people just wanna see the review and then they leave. I don't have money to buy tons of espresso gear for review, in fact I'm broke! I'll try this out and hopefully it could help my channel start to become a thing again

I've binged your videos too. They're all really enjoyable to watch while also teaching people about retention on KZfaq. I even learned from the previous video to this one and even recently did the same thing and unlisted most of my videos. And yes I did think about this for a while. My viewers are all interested in my challenge runs in Monster Hunter. Anytime I would make a video on something else non challenge related they always tended to drop in views because of what you mentioned. It didn't feel good doing unlisting my videos (including my popular ones) but I knew that those videos were not good for my channel long term. They were mostly top 10s, discussion videos, and even a series of videos about something completely different that had less than a 1000 views. I believe I might be the only Monster Hunter KZfaqr that's doing this. Once I understood my audience and know that I love doing the challenges that they crave to watch, That's exactly what I'll do. Give them what they want. And make them all interesting for retention while I'm at it too. Thank you Ed!

Hi! It’s so funny that you did a video on this topic, because I was one of those people that watched that “monetization video” multiple times to learn. I binge watched it because there aren’t a lot of videos out like that, that experiment with how quickly someone can get monetized. It’s discouraging because it feels like every niche has been saturated with content already. Also I agree, just using one suggested video is a much easier choice, because I don’t usually go back and watch the “other” suggested video anyways :)

Hey mate, I saw you on twitter and watched your video on reworking thumbnails and titles of underperforming videos, your advice in it is solid. I watched, I'm practicing and I moved on, then earlier today saw your video on... I don't recall the exact topic but for me the take away was the importance of comment strategy (that's where I subbed) and now I am here. There's alot of people that pretend to give youtube advice, most is unactionable and generic so I ignore them, they get lucky every once in awhile (thats what I first thought when I saw you 😆💀😆). I was mistaken, you are the real deal mate. Thx for the vids.

Is it weird when you've followed the exactly the pattern I said? I think i'd be a little freaked out, like "is he watching me?"

Oh Ed, you sound like you’re not feeling well. I hope you get better soon mate. Also, I love your videos. Yes, I first clicked because of your thumbnail and the wording, but I stayed because your information is very helpful, you explain everything in a way that’s easy to understand, and you’re able to be funny and entertaining while educating us. Thank you Ed. If my channel ever takes off, I’ll know it’s because of you. 🥰

The end of the video was priceless and I was laughing because I was already going to watch it but your level of honesty made me want to leave a comment first!

Hi Ed, your strategy really works on me as I'm a subscriber and big fan of your content. So much that I am currently working on rebranding my channel and seriously upping my game with my content. I'm really looking forward to seeing the results when I have finally finished all the planning..... kind regards 👍🏻

Just awesome. I saw Daniel Batal share something similar to this - love that you really break it down though - I've noticed the same things are occuring on a few channels of mine as well. Great job! :)

I definitely binge your content, its just too useful and entertaining not to! I would really like to see some more tips on how you speed up content creation like the studio video and the one where you have custom mouse buttons to help you edit faster.

I'm so happy I came across your video, thanks for the awesome content! I have 480 videos on my channel but my playlist wasn't optimized at all. I recently unlisted 10% of my video's and and I was taking the AVPV into consideration as well. I'm also optimizing my playlist. I hope it works for me like it did for you! 😁
