🇩🇰🎄🇺🇸 How DENMARK Tricked Me Into Moving to Denmark

In this #short I talk to you about my first work trips to Denmark in November, and then December 2016. After those trips I was asked to move to Denmark from America - in the New Year, when I returned, let's just say that things were very different in Denmark in January. I'm still SO happy that I decided to move to Denmark. Living in Denmark is fantastic, but that first January I experienced my very first culture shock in Denmark. Now I know what to expect in every part of Danish winter.

Maybe it’s because I was raised with it, but the dark period of the year is some of my favorite time. The darkness and cold is a great excuse for grabbing blankets, candles, hot drinks and a good book, and cuddling up on a couch or in bed. That’s probably why the Scandinavians invented “hygge”, to cope with the dark months

Oh for sure, and I have VERY much learned to love it and enjoy the slow-paced time of year. Imagine it being your first days moving to a new country and knowing no one and being excited to jump into things and then it's January LOL. I had a much better and more hygge time a year later haha 😂😀

THE most depressing thing is when you see a group of schoolers heading to either grade or high school in January and it just looks depressing. It’s not even because it is, they’re just going about their daily routine and education is important but like… have you ever thought about how we look like penguins waddling around in those big fucking pull up overalls? Like the school (at least where I went to school, which is admittedly in the countryside) looked abandoned in the winter. It looked seriously depressing. Also another tradition outside the city is flagging down the bus with your flashlight on your phone or an actual flashlight (I’m born before smartphones became a big deal, leave me alone)

As a Dane that comes from a family that have been here since the very beginning of times. I can say there is no place i rather be then here, I truly love my country and the people. An would do everything to preserve our little heavenly place that my ancestors created for us, im lucky to be in the bloodline of Gorm the old and Haraldbluetooth. and entire family and their names including mine can be found in the Royallibrary in the Royal blueblood books. Its so damn cool, cause i cant go anywhere in this country with my son where i can tell a story about our ancestors and what they did at the spot we stand and all that. its so awesome, and he also learns about it all in school where he can tell the rest that its about his family :) just like i did, and all the others did before me. Glad you an your man like our little lovely country and that you two are so into learning about everything, and then telling others about it. its AWESOME!

Fact is, it's an empty place constantly. I remember living in Copenhagen for a little while and, just going for a walk on a Sunday afternoon, I ended up almost screaming "is anyone here...anyone alive?" ..zzz The city centre might have been ok'ish but, as soon as you are 15 minutes away from there, it's completely dead everywhere and, the very few people you might meet on your way - they are afraid of speaking to anyone.. No news really - this is how it always was...zzz
@omega1231
@omega1231 Жыл бұрын
You really do have to take into account that Copenhagen centrum has around 60.000 inhabitants and the city in total has 600.000 when comparing it to elsewhere. Of course it's not going to have the throngs of people you see in capitals like London or large cities like Hong Kong. There's also the weather, even compared to Amsterdam it rains more than twice as much in Copenhagen and it's slightly colder on average. It's also not as much of a tourist destination or hub for international commerce like many other capitals or large cities. For like 9-10/12 months most people are inside, be it bars or at home. Even if there is good weather in those 10 months, it's unpredictable so very few people make appointments outside. Also, we are not afraid, we just don't care to talk to strangers unless you need help of some sort. We don't want to be bothered in the middle of the street and we extend that to everyone around us.

@@omega1231And, one of my many reasons for having left the place for good...one reason.. One of the other - main reasons, is the sad fact that, far too many Danes in the country, have now "left"(been killed) for good. No other place on Earth, directly slaughter their own and others (when they are broke) than Holocaust-Denmark 😰 The place is 100% beyond forgiveness by now - starting yet another Holocaust "for the fun of it" and by now (2023) "simply" just re-writing their "History" again. I'm sure it will come out, as the "happiest in the World" place in these writings - likewise again. This is what the Danish self-proposed "elite" have done for thousands of years. Such a sad place 😪

Not afraid to talk its just we are very family and friends Orienten we invite our family snd friends to our Homes more than going out which is why its kind of difficult to g’et to know and meet people it helps if you have workcolleges or studying ect where you g’et to know people. Its not that we dont want to g’et new friends actually we find people from other countries interesting but we are a bit reserved becaurse of the cold weather half the year and the tendency to father st Home with friends and family but if you start a friendly conversation or through job study or something meet people they are most often very Nice and friendly and Will probably invite you Home. This is also the reason the Streets are empty we are gatherer at Home with those we know and love but we are very willing to g’et to know new people too and interested in other cultures
