Aizen calculated that had Azashiro went all out against Zaraki from the start he would have won but he gave Zaraki to much room to gain power, his clan was renowned for being specialised in Kenjutsu and Kido, they were both evenly matched really, only difference is that Azashiro lacks endurance compared to Zaraki and it took the Zero Squad Division to appear for him surrender. That alone speaks the level of threat he is.

Kubo is VERY smart for putting this man on a leash, his Bankai is incredible. All he really needs is to increase his pain tolerance, endurance and battle senses. And Mayuri has given him that chance to break his limits. You obviously don't know the character. The one drawback of his bankai is that it negatively impacts his physical body. He can never train his body, and is weak physically. He was severely injured due to a misfired kido by the kido corps once even proving this. Without his insanely broken bankai you could argue he wouldn't even be lieutenant level honestly.

@@meh.96 Soya's family was part of the Nobles in Soul Society. It got wiped out because other Nobles worked together to destroy his family and they did it twice. The first time they did it, Soya and his older sister survived because his sister is a Shinigami. When they survived, the other Nobles kidnapped them and threw them into a Hollow pit with stronger Hollows which led to his sister's death.

Also, his bankai is one of the few bankais that can manifest itself and accompany Soya in his time in the Hollow pit until he finds his way out. After he appeared, he planned and He found out that Kuroyashiki is a Kenpachi and if he kills a Kenpachi, he becomes the new Kenpachi and also a captain. Almost immediately after becoming a Captain, he went to slaughter multiple Noble houses that had an involvement in his clan's extermination.

While he was in Muken, he diligently studied the strengths and weaknesses of his Bankai, and after doing so for hundreds of years, he found a way out of Muken and went right back to slaughtering. He wreaked so much havoc that Squad Zero nearly came down just to deal with him until he bumped into Zaraki. He thought Zaraki would be the same as Kuroyashiki that he can fool to stall for time to make his ability manifest inside Zaraki's body like how he killed Kuroyashiki. But Zaraki's reiatsu was so intense that it burned him, so he resorted to bombarding him with high level Kido's and Hado's but Zaraki tanked it. He would've continued on fighting, if not for the fact that he heard that the Zero Squad is about to go down to deal with him personally. After hearing that, he surrendered and got sent back to Muken. Before going back in, he swore that he will train so he could beat Zaraki and Mayuri poisoned him with the poison he used on Szayellaporro, because Soya stole things and destroyed his laboratory, but Soya thanked Mayuri for the poison because that will make his training better and went back in.

kotsuzuiha is one of the most dangerous bankai owned by Kenpachi Haruto who defeated Kenpachi Zaraki, Kotsuzuiha in shikai form is more powerful than most captains bankai's combined, and to top it all of the central 46 placed a seal on kenpach Haruto Bankai to never use this under no circumstances as it is world threat level but the ability are unknown, Haruto himself was given a device implanted in his spine to that drains his reatsu due to his enormous spiritual pressure which he has no control over!

@@savageclasher1014 (spoilers from the novel) he was already a prisoner in mugen long before Aizen was, that's due to him attempting to kill nobles in revenge for almost wiping out is clan, by the time of the Thousand Year Blood War during Yhwach visit in mugen to see Aizen he managed to escape And after the war he made his move again against the nobles responsible of his clans murders, ofc the Gotei was ordered to apprehend him so obviously he was bound to clash with Zaraki due to this order.

If I remember correctly, Azashiro became 8th Kenpachi 2-300 years before Ichigo's story, failed to achieve his goal, and so went into hiding in Muken. He then came back shortly after the Arrancar War. That's when Kenpachi Zaraki fought him.

In the Novel it’s stated that Azashiro was arrested and his lieutenant took over as captain. (Technically the 9th Kenpachi) The 9th is then killed by Kiganjo who would become the 10th Zaraki kills Kiganjo the 10th so Zaraki becomes the 11th

...he's training his mind. Not his "body". He'll come out of it more in tune with his spiritual pressure and his zanpakuto spirit but his power will not have grown any larger. He'll just be better at maximizing what he had going in. Heck, he might be weaker because I doubt they are feeding him. Spirits with power (Shinigami, hollow, etc) need to eat or they regress.
