The Mising Tribe People..........
Tribal people of Assam............
Reality of the Mising Tribe People........
The Mising people are the second largest tribal ethnic group in Assam. They are the indigenous people of Assam. They live in the riverine areas of Assam. The Misings were in contact with civilization in Assam before the arrival of the Ahoms in the 12th century. They came from the Tibetan Mountains and first settled on the banks of the Chiang River in Arunachal Pradesh. Some of these groups later entered Assam along the Brahmaputra River in search of food and livelihood. Those living in Arunachal are now known as Adi and those living in Assam are known as Mising. Therefore, it can be seen that the Misings and the Adi are brothers and sisters.
Ali Aye Ligang is a major agricultural festival of the Mising people. Ali means seeds under trees, Aye means fruits or seeds on tree branches and Ligang means the first moment of planting seeds. Therefore, Ali Aye Ligang means the first day of sowing seeds. This festival is celebrated on the first Wednesday of the month of Fagun. This festival is celebrated to wish the prosperity of agriculture. This is an important day for the Mising people. On this day they get drunk with dancing and singing. Shay mat, purang apin and dried fish are the main food of this day. They also eat a meal of pork and dancing and singing. Gomrag dance is one of the main dances of the Mising people.
