I got a few mates together to compete
on my Stabicraft in the D'Urville
Island Wilderness Resort fishing competition. It had
been postponed a couple times but this was fully worth the wait as the weather really
turned it on along with the fishing. Day 1 we caught and released a few Snapper all over
12 pound including the bigg
est coming in at 17 pound. Chris also landed a very
respectable Trevelly coming in at 8.24 pound. After filling the bin with 7 Snaps we then
went on to target Kingfish and Ryan hooked up on the very first drop with his brand new
Shimano Fishing New Zealand
Ocea Jigger 4000 to what was a respectable king coming
in at 24.96 pound. After the kings it was time to fire up the Weber Baby Q and cook up
some lunch while Ryan had a few casts with the soft bait. He then managed to land a
nice Tarakihi. At this stage
we were starting to believe that we might be in with a shot to
enter the 7 species category. After lunch we then went and targeted some Blue Cod for
the comp but also the dinner plate with Chris and Brayden showing us how it was done
landing some nice fish
around 45cm mark. After a good quick session on the Cod we
made our way back to Catherine Cove where we fired up the bbq to cook up some fresh
fish for dinner. It turned out to be a bit of a late night on the brews which meant we were
all a little bit dus
ty the following morning. First up was to try and land a couple of
Kahawai one for the comp and one for Puka bait where Ryan was really in his element
and landed a couple of nice fish. We then only had 1 of 2 species to get so we thought
let’s go deep and
see if we can land a Puka which after 20 or so minutes and a few bites
we finally had landed a 13 pound Puka and the celebration on board says it all. We had
landed all 7 species and it wasn’t even lunch time on Saturday. By mid afternoon we
decided to hea
d in early to have a clean up and get our species all gutted and weighed
in. Honestly we knew we had done well catching all the species but didn’t really believe
we had any fish worth a prize but boy were we wrong. It was now time for prize giving
where we
were stocked for everyone who got a prize especially Matt for winning
heaviest snapper coming in at 22 pound. Up came the biggest trevelly and Nauti Buoy
was the winner. Heck what a surprise this was, we had won our first ever fishing prize.
After a coupl
e more species read out it was now time for the biggest Puka and Nauti
Buoy was read out again. We all looked at each other in shock we had won another prize,
I was just fizzing. We also won Average Kingfish. Then up came the species category
and once again Nauti Buoy was read out. Wholly heck what had just happened we had
won the fishing competition. We were all pumped up and in shock so we made sure we
celebrated our success with a few brews and shared around a couple of our prizes.
What an awesome trip with the lads and one we will all remember for a long time. We
would all like to thank everyone involved along with all of the sponsors for the
competition. The lads all picked what prizes they wanted to keep and we have decided
as team that we will do a give away. All you have to do is subscribe to my channel and
comment below your greatest fishing experience with your mates and we will pick the
winner from there.

Awesome footage guys, looked like a epic trip! ..... ok so one of my best fishing experiences when I was on trip with 8x mates to great barrier island in 2021. Started with a 9 hr roadie up to Coromandel, boarded our boat in Kenedy bay and steamed over to Great barrier. Spent the first 2 days filling the fish bin , enjoying good times and laughs with the boys. On day 3 we decided to jump in for a dive for crays, jumped straight off the boat at the spot we had anchored for the night. We got 20m from the boat and next minute the boys were yahooing and cheering, I swim over to find they had come across a huge mob of packhorse crays, not sure what they were doing but it was like a packhorse orgy!! They were everywhere, all over the rocks, in between the weed, out in the open and in every crack and hole. There were hundreds of them! So many that we made a rule that if you could hold it with one hand then it’s too small so put it back. We spent the next hour plucking a few big bucks. Such a amazing experience that we will probably never see again. That night we ate like kings, and washed it down with a crayfish head beer funnel each to celebrate (like a shoey but we used a packy head) 😂 🍻. Anyway that was one of my best memories. Looking forward to your next video, cheers

Wholly hecker that is unreal. Sounds like one hell of an epic weekend with your mates. Your bang on though, you probably will never see Crays like it again that’s what dreams are made of. I do like the sound of a crayfish head beer though, keen to see a pic of this haha

Great footage & great catching. Some mates & I do an annual trip down to D'Urville each year - it's one of those times you put in your calendar & count down the number of days til you go. And then when it's done... you put the next year's date in & start dreaming of what the next trip will be like! Had many good fishing moments with mates - probably one of the best was fishing the annual Moki 1000 surf casting competition & all of us caught decent-sized moki. I was lucky enough to catch one on my birthday & weigh in the heaviest overall moki in the competition. It's great when a carefully planned trip comes together! Looking forward to following your awesome fishing footage!

How good was that trip for you guys. Thats a dream trip with the lads! Thanks for sharing the journey to your successful weekend. My best fishing moment is not even me on the rod. Was watching my young boy pull up a very respectable snapper all on his own battling it and the giggles all the way to the surface. Then for him to come away with average snapper for the comp with it and the look on his face when he found out. Hopefully the start of an annual father son bonding weekend.

Mate that is a epic memory for sure. One of my favourite fishing memories isn’t of me catching a big fish but a weekend fishing on my boat with dad watching him catch all sorts of species for the first time while having the time of his life. That’s a memory that you will have for a lifetime with your son. Congratulations on the prize as well

Was an unreal weekend where the plan came together. Mate any snapper over 10 pound in my book is a good fish. Great fun to catch and excellent eating. 5 over 14 is one heck of a good day. I believe it’s not always about catching big fish it’s more about spending time with your mates sharing a few good yarns with the sun on your back. Cheers mate the next one is definitely something a little different haha

How good what a win I have had a fair few great fishing days but the best recent one was 2 weeks ago fishing for panniers in the Waimea estuary and then thought I hooked a stingray but turned out to be a big kingfish

Awesome son!! My greatest fishing adventure so far was over Christmas when my sister and I both bagged our first kingfish on board the Good Rooster! It was a hoot of a time and definitely a special memory! Also broke the no kingfish curse on the old boys boat 🤣

How good was this to watch!!! We just came back from a weekend fishing trip in Gizzy where I caught my first ever kingfish!! The surprise of how heavy and how much the fight was almost pulled me off the boat!! Which of course had the rest of the guys in fits of laughter! They eventually got round to helping me and we pulled in a very good size Kingi! The laughs that night over a few beers and some smoked kingfish throats is what we all live for, and watching your video (minus the prizes haha) was the weekend we had as well!!!!! A few surprise puka’s for us too haha.

Awesome trip. Funny enough some one of the best fishing trips I’ve ever done was around durvile island just a couple weeks ago. We started jigging in a spot I’d been recommended and managed to get a 10lb snapper on a 300gram jig. Then the barracudas decided to show up and broke all of our jigs off. With no kingys and no jigs left we decided to have a fish with bait and caught some awesome snapper and cod. An hour later a boat pulled up next to us and started jigging and on the first drop they got a double hookup. I was so gutted cause we had no more jigs left and the kingys were around. In the end I got fed up watching them catch kingys over 20kg so I ended up asking the guys if they’d lend us a jig and they were really nice and said they would. So we gave them 20$ cash and I got a jig for one last chance to hook up to a kingy. I dropped it down and straight away got smashed and pulled up a nice kingy to end the day off. And it was an awesome way to end a weeks trip to Ōkiwi Bay off. One to remember.
