Note: "allow", the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem is an abstract proof, the actual electronic implementation of A/D and D/A converters affects the result. Also, while a digital recording may perfectly capture the input that doesn't mean that it will sound good. GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) still applies.

@@avsystem3142 I once played with a DAT machine and no matter what the sampling rate the playback after recording some records had swishy highs. cymbals sounded like a swarm of bees.

@@avsystem3142 Sounded great recording on my Tandberg TD20A reel to reel. Closer to the source then the Dat machine was. Weak link or not, it colored the sound in a way I didn't like.

@@andershammer9307 A more likely explanation is that the tape recorder colored the sound in a way that you liked and the DAT did'n't add any "coloration" to your satisfaction. BTW, DAT technology has been obsolete for decades.

The most sought after analog recording consoles are virtually all from the 70s (Neve, API, Trident, Quad Eight). There are high end analog consoles built from the 80s to 00s from SSL and the Neve 88R, but these generally have less vibe and are used for heavily processed music (also more expensive and harder to repair because surface mount chips).

I remember she put a soup bowl under her Audio Research preamp to improve sound. I have an Audio Research preamp that I modifed and I don't think it would benefit from that.
