In this video Journalist Ritesh Lakhi recalls the incident at Panjab University dating back to 1980s as PUSU the students organisation won the Panjab University Students Council elections amidst all sorts of incidents. However, the clash of groups led by Parminder Singh Singh Cheema of NSUI and Makhan Singh Virk of PUSU was the most remarkable one as the clash also marked the beginning of a series of several other clashes including few fatal ones as Panjab University saw the spiralling of such incidents till 1983. Makhan Singh Virk a stout and rugged students' leader was neutralized by Cheema group after several unsuccessful attempts earlier in 1982. However, the first few of the incidents involving clash of Makhan Singh Virk and how he bashed Prabhjinder Singh Dimpy Chand Bhan of Faridkot was the most remarkable. This was followed by a clash of both groups on the stage of annual Panjab University Festival Jhankar that was being organised by PUSU led council as Cheema led hooligans tried to capture the stage leading to an instant reaction by Makhan Singh Virk and his boys. This incident saw Makhan being hit in his thigh, an incident which in the further course was all set to spiral into series of counter actions by Makhan group against Cheema group led men especially Giani Jaswant Singh who led the charge against Makhan on Jhankar Stage.

@@SunnySingh-iv9kf 79-81. There are few persons who have the natural ability to lead, organize and act as glue in the organization. Makhan Virk was one of them. He was extremely bold and physically strong - seen him confronting persons with gun in hand bare handedly. He was King maker. Friend of friends. Now at this age I feel that we lost born leaders on both sides of the fence in fights which could have been avoided. It's loss to our society.

I am also a witness of that time. Makhan Singh was very bold guy who would normally be seen displaying his bare revolver in hand but harmless for friends. Jhankar used to be annual youth festival at PU.

ਰਿਤੇਸ਼ ਜੀ, ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਇਸ ਵੀਡੀਓ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਵਕਤ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰੈਸਿਵ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ union ਦਾ ਹਿਮਾਇਤੀ ਵੀ ਸੀ। ਮੈਂ ਮੱਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਚੀਮਾ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਦੇ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰਾਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜੋ ਤਰੀਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਾਲ ਦੱਸੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਮਾਨ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੋਅ ਜਨਵਰੀ 1982 ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੱਖਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਪੱਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੋਲੀ ਵੱਜੀ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਜਸਵੰਤ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਨੇ ਮੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਦੇਸੀ ਕੱਟਾ ਖੋਹਕੇ ਮਾਰੀ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਬਾਬੇ ਬੈਂਸ ਨੇ 12 ਬੋਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੋ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਚਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਬਲਕਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ boxer ( ਮੱਖਣ ਗਰੁੱਪ) ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ (ਚੀਮਾ ਗਰੁੱਪ) ਦੇ ਵੱਜ ਗਈਆਂ। ਮੈਂ ਸਟੇਜ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ, ਇਹ ਲੜਾਈ ਮੈਂ 10-15 ਮੀਟਰ ਤੋਂ ਦੇਖੀ ਸੀ। ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਨੇ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ। ਉਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇੱਕ ਲੜਾਈ 18 ਅਗਸਤ 1982 ਨੂੰ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਰੀਕ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਮੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰ ਰਾਜਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਦੀਪਾ ਸੀ। ਦੀਪੇ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਬਣਨ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰੀ ਤੇ ਮੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਕਰਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਵੀ 22 ਦਿਨ ਬੁੜੈਲ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ। 1977 ਤੋਂ 1981 ਤੱਕ ਮੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿੱਤ ਸਕੀ ਸੀ। 1982 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਜਿੱਤੇ। 1983 ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਲੜਾਈ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਜਿੱਤੇ। ਇਹ ਦੋ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਡੇ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਨੇ ਦੀਪੇ ਦੀ ਛਿੱਤਰੌਲ 20 ਕੁ ਵਾਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਰ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ ਪਰ ਬੇਸ਼ਰਮ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਫਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ। ਡਿੰਪੀ ਅਤੇ Trighatia ਦੇ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਸਤੰਬਰ 1983 ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਹਫਤੇ ਵੱਜੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਡਿੰਪੀ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ (ਪੱਟ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ) ਵੱਜੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸੁੱਖੇ ਨੇ ਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਡਿੰਪੀ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਦੋਸਤ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਮਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਮੱਖਣ ਨੇ ਡਿੰਪੀ ਨੂੰ ਜੱਫਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਡਿੰਪੀ ਦੇ ਵੱਜ ਗਈਆਂ। ਉਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਮੱਖਣ ਨੇ 2 ਕੁ ਮਿੰਟ ਡਿੰਪੀ ਨੂੰ ਖੂੰਡੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੁੱਟਿਆ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਜਸਕਰਨ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਥੁੜੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਸੀ। ਅੱਧੇ ਘੰਟੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਝੂਠੀ ਹੈ। 5 ਮਿੰਟਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਾਂ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਵਿਰਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਤਿੰਦਰ ਵਿਰਕ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਜਿੰਦਰ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮਵਰ ਬਿਲਡਰ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਕਈ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਹਨ। ਜੇ ਹੋਰ ਐਪੀਸੋਡ ਬਣਾਉਣੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਫੋਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਣਾ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਸਚਾਈ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਿੰਦਰ ਨਟੀ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪਾਲਿਟਿਕ੍ਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਲੈਣ ਦੇਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।

All true, well done. One information you got is incorrect. The scuffle during Gurdas Maan show did not happen on stage rather it happened behind the stage. Makhan was shot behind the stage in upper thigh.

One more thing. Jhankar was in January 82 where Makhan Singh Virk was shot. Where as student council elections happened much later during the year. When Vijendra Trighatia was shot by Dimpa, Dimpa was also shot and was later taken to PGi on bullet by a PSU member who later joined CIA during Punjab Turmoil and was also used by top cops.
