"Frozen 2" is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2013 Disney animated smash hit featuring characters like Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven. For the sequel, animators updated Anna and Elsa's outfits, re-built parts of Arendelle, and figured out how to turn water, wind, fire, and rocks into living, breathing creatures like Gale and the Nokk.
We took a look at all of the interesting details and techniques the Disney animators used to make "Frozen II" and how they improved upon the first film.

Mr. Friendship “the technique of photographing successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the movie is shown as a sequence.” there is no such thing as “real animation”, it is always an animation if it moves by some kind of framerate

@@miloe.3245 Well, that's what I'm referring to. It's about a series of pictures that creates an illusion or movement to make a figure moves in beyond. And let's not forget that the other definition of "animation" is referring as movements. For example, "animated objects" even when it's not a drawing.

I agree! I always rewatch animated movies. When I first watch them, I focus more on the details. And the second time, I focus on the story telling. I feel like analyzing the small details first is better since I get to see it first on the big screen. I love animation and art. It's such an odd, fascinating topic I wish others would get into more!

when I watched Frozen 2 for the first time in forever, i was focusing on the story. I‘m honestly satisfied for Elsa’s possible death 😅 but then I realize, little children grew up with these characters so- but as a basement musician, video & audio editor, and hopefully an animator someday (i just don’t have much of the tools yet), I can already catch little details and it just elevates my experience of the movie.

I think thats the point! In life we dont realize the intricate details and motions we go through every day, because its normal. Its not until we take a step back do we see things for more than what it seems! But yeah, these details are easy to gloss over because its normal to see them!

A friend of mine works with visual effects at ILM and is hands-on in many big budget movies. Those people have their own award shows and a whole culture around what they do - they get their well deserved recognition from their peers/fellow artists in the industry. But it's important to note that all these big or small things that they do for these movies all add up to something really great for the viewer. If the target audience enjoy the movie without being distracted by or questioning the vfx, it's a very good sign and is mostly what they care about.

Growing up, getting older, becoming adults- it all can be subjective, no need to get too technical. It just means that there’s some character development happening. It’s apparent that a major theme for frozen 2 is they’re maturing. As a story evolves, it’s engaging for the characters to be changing and growing into new versions of themselves.

That last part about making the water too realistic hits home. I draw maps for tabletop roleplaying games (DnD mostly), and have also come to the conclusion that making the coastline in particular 'too realistic' will lead to the map looking off somehow. We're used to the fantastical shapes that we see in regular fantasy, so a realistic shape to your island, continent, etc will look strange.

Well you do need software to animate. Necessity is the mother of invention after all. ^^ It's not like they'd wait for someone else to make the software and then buy it. They'd just hire those people to make software directly. And yes, I know your comment was a joke..

while I would say that’s not true, it actually kinda is. not every one of them, but a lot of the smartest of animators or people that work in the animation industry know SO much about psychics, light, and just general surface details and information.

When i saw that scene of elsa running into the water i was actually so confused, she looked so cartoon compared to the water, as if they just used a video of real water. And that was them holding back? Wow!!

Wow. I think the animators had the best work not just that they are doing their jobs but they are passionate about it. Plus having cool perks like travelling and even sky diving just to get an inspiration?! That's awesome.
